For Cody Michaels, every song is a prayer By Cynthia Hughes sca@sover.net
BELLOWS F ALLS—Solo pianist Cody Michaels has been compared to George Winston and Keith Jarrett, but his mesmerizing sound is all his own. The V e rmont-based artist recently performed at Immanuel Episcopal Church but promises to arrange more appearances locally. According to a r eview in Maine’s Face Magazine, “Michaels' music is truly entrancing... the finesse emanating fr om his piano is as natural as br eath. All is expressed with a melodic pr ecision capable only of those who genuinely believe in every note they play.” For Michaels, “the piano is a way to connect with the mystery of creation and every song is a prayer.” He grew up in New Hampshir e where he began playing piano at an early age, inspire d by his late father, a jazz pianist. A former park ranger and lifelong outdoor enthusiast, Michaels approach reflects his classical training, jazz intuition, along with his awareness of the sounds of nature. See MICHAELS, page 7
