Town Meeting Driver injured on ‘12: Rutland, results Route 30 Windsor Mitt Romney wins By Lou Varricchio
newmarketpress@denpubs.com HUBBARDTON — Troopers of the Vermont State Police's Castleton Outpost were assigned to investigate a reported single vehicle crash on Vermont Route 30 near Pencil Mill Road in Hubbardton last week. Troopers located the vehicle, a 2001 Volvo sedan on its roof, off the shoulder of the northbound lane of travel for Route 30. The vehicle sustained significant damaged and was considered a total loss. Investigation revealed that the vehicle, operated by Erin Orleck, 21, of Rhode Island, was traveling south on the highway toward Castleton. According to Orleck, the vehicle drifted onto the shoulder of the road and went into "gravel" causing her to lose control. Orleck said she attempted to regain control and "over-corrected as she tried to turn back onto the tar section of Route 30. She said she turned "too hard" and lost control of her vehicle causing it to skid and spin. Orleck also said the vehicle spun across both lanes of travel and off the shoulder of the northbound lane. Orleck told police the vehicle left the roadway "sideways, and subsequently rolled onto its roof, where it came to final rest. She said she was able to exit the vehicle with some assistance from a friend who was traveling in another vehicle in front of her. Orleck advised troopers that she was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash. VSP authorities in Castleton said Orleck was transported and treated for injuries at the Rutland Regional Medical Center. The Vermont State Police were assisted on scene by Fair Haven Rescue, Hubbardton Fire Department, and the Fair Haven Police Department.

Vermont GOP primary
By Lou Varricchio
newmarketpress@denpubs.com RUTLAND — Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney defeated his conservative and libertarian Republican rivals in Vermont’s GOP primary. However, the candidate did not win all of the state’s 17 delegates. In Burlington, liberal Democrat Miro Weinberger defeated GOP candidate Kurt Wright for mayor of Burlington. In Rutland, some of the main focus was on the aldermanic race. Voters reelected the city’s incubment aldermen and elected a new alderman, Gary Donahue. But the biggest news was approval of a $2 million bond to rebuild Rutland’s crumbling bridges. See TOWN MEETING, page 5
