Representatives from the Clinton County Board of Realtors presented Kent W. Brooks, executive director of Hospice of the North Country, with a check for $29,379 Dec. 4. The record setting donation was the annual contribution the Board of Realtors makes to Hospice. The donation, said Brooks, is two to three times more than the average amount the organization has raised for Hospice in the past. “This amount just represents to us that the Board of Realtors really put a lot of effort this year into supporting our cause and our new building,” said Brooks. “They’ve always been excellent in what they’ve raised but they wanted to step it up and they really, really did well this year.”

And, though that month, the month of April, is four months away, one local emergency service provider says there’s no time like the present to lend a hand. Justin K. Burl, chief officer for the Morrisonville Rescue Squad, said his department is facing the same problem many volunteer fire departments and emergency serv-

ice providers are facing — dwindling membership. Since assuming his position as squad chief one year ago, Burl said he’s seen the number of volunteers at the lowest it’s been in years. “We currently have 30 volunteers, which is down from recent years,” said Burl. Though 30 may sound like a sufficient number, said Burl, it can be a roll of the dice how many volunteers are available for a call.
