American Legion to host benefit Sunday for Redford woman By Jeremiah S. Papineau jeremiah@denpubs.com SARANAC — Linda M. Dupraw isn’t the sort of person who asks for help or the kind who easily accepts it. However, when the 60-year-old Redford woman was recently diagnosed with small cell lung cancer, family friend Jean Wilson didn’t give her much of a choice. Wilson immediately decided to organize a benefit in Dupraw’s honor to help her with her anticipated medical expenses — especially considering Dupraw has no insurance to cover her treatments. “We just want to help defray her costs,” said Wilson. “It took me a while to get used to it,” Dupraw said of Wilson hosting the benefit. “I’m usually the one helping out.” Dupraw, a mother of three and grandmother of two, has been ac-

She reached a bump in the road, however, when she receive her diagnosis after going to the hospital with a pain in her side. Though her condition is serious, her doctors believe they have caught her cancer in its early stages, said Dupraw. “They’re pretty sure they can put it in remission,” she said. Dupraw is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments at CVPH Medical Center ’s Fitzpatrick Cancer Center, to which she said she is reacting well so far. The silver lining to her diagnosis, said Dupraw, is the disease has
