Honoring the fourth
By Shaun Kittle shaun@denpubs.com
The Fourth of July is a time for celebration, and remembering Fireworks, barbeques and parades are all on deck for Fourth of July celebrations throughout the North Country, but the event behind all the flag-waving festivities goes back more than 200 years, to a time when freedom from tyrannical rule was still a battle to be won. On July 4, 1776, thirteen North American colonies became the United States of America by adopting the Declaration of Independence and declaring themselves free from oppressive British rule. But the Declaration was more than just a rebellion against British-imposed taxes and regulations—it provided an in-depth explanation as to why the colonies would be better off without unrepresented governance from their oversea neighbors.
The day after the Declaration of Independence was accepted, John Adams wrote to his wife, Abigail: “The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.” Adams missed the mark by two days, but he was right about everything else—the Fourth is annually marked with celebration, from sea to shining sea, and is an important reminder of the birth of our nation.

The Only Thing We Overlook is the Lake!
We are in our 23rd year of business in the Adirondacks-A family owned business started by Don & Claire Kingsley. We now serve a large area from Albany to Plattsburgh. We started our business doing primarily residential work & now have expanded to include commercial excavation along with gravel mining, rock crushing & delta dredgings. Our son, Nathan Kingsley, has worked with us from a very young age, and now has taken over a great deal of the heavy excavation, along with meeting clients. Our son-in-law, Jeff Soldato works with us on job planning & bidding, as well as equipment operation. We provide a wide variety of services: Storm Water Management • Paving • Septic Systems • Land Clearing • Building Demolition • Rock Crushing • Gravel Mining • Commercial Building Excavation • Delta Removal Dredgings • Commercial Snowplowing • Water & Sewer Line Repairs • Development • Water & Sewer Line Installation • Road Construction & Repairs

Montes Malbac Monte A full-bodie full-bodied, round, soft and generous red wine with strong spicy character. The wine is 100% M Malbec. Ruby red color, leaning to very dark, iintense red showing powerful but elegant flaavors, with plumy and blackberry hits accompani accompanied by wonderful butterscotch flavors and a sligh slight spiciness that is totally integrated with the su subtle notes of vanilla that comes from six mo months of oak aging.

Si Soave
Ste Stella Pinot Grigio Ste Stella is a crisp Pinot Grigio with good acidity an and mineral, as well as tree fruit flavors, and hin hints of honey. This wine actually tastes like Pin Pinot Grigio, an enviable achievement given the qu quantity produced as well as its price. Elegant, cle clean, citrusy (oranges and ripe apples) notes are followed by a light-bodied white.

Starborough Sauvignon Blanc Starboro
Mark West Pinot Noir
SStarborough Sauvignon Blanc has layers of ccitrus and tropical fruit with hints of fresh ggreen characters, which make the wine a ttrue expression of the Marlborough region. FFlavors of passion fruit, guava and kiwi layered oover a citrus framework culminate in a crisp, aapproachable palate.
In the mouth there is a lot of juicy, ripe, jammy red and black berry fruits with enough concentration to give a perception of sweetness. All that juicy fruit upfront fades into tart, medium acidity and mild dusty tannins that become more prominent in the finish. There isn’t a whole lot of fruit in the finish, which is a bit disappointing after such a forceful first impression. What there is a lot of, from start to finish, is oak, highlighted by a toasty vanilla flavor.

Jam Jameson Whiskey 1L
Sobieski Vodka 1.75L
Jameson Irish whiskey is produced from a mixture of malted and unmalted or “green” Irish barley. The barley is dried in a closed kiln fired by natural gas, and formerly anthracite coal, to preserve its flavour. Like most Irish m whisky, Jameson is triple distilled for optimum smoothness. The end result is a sweet-tasting whiskey. Valid 6/28/12 through 7/4/12 While supplies last. May not be combined with other offers.
This vodk vodka has an aroma that is light and fruity, with no nnauseating alcohol found in many of its price ccontemporaries. The taste is nice and smooth, cclean and light, and virtually tasteless with the sslightest hints of freshly harvested rye. It fini nishes with a semi-dry fruit in a very short burs burst that leaves the palate refreshingly clean. Th This is everything you expect from a good Poli Polish vodka and is fantastic chilled. Valid 6/28/12 through 7/4/12 While supplies last. May not be combined with other offers.

The “Si Soave” has a bouquet that exhibits aromas of freshly sliced lime, sea salt, mineral, and wet pavement. On the palate the wine shows quite distinct flavors or tart grapefruit and salty mineral. It’s a wine with fresh and vibrant acidity that hold an extra touch of texture and strength.
