And this one will involve mixed martial arts.

Dubbed “Battle in Plattsburgh 2,” the Xtreme Combat Promotions event will bring some of the top amateur fighters in the Northeast together to compete on Saturday, May 11 at the Crete Civic Center in Plattsburgh.

Many of the competitors live in the region, but for one of them, the event is a homecoming.

katherine@denpubs.com PLATTSBURGH — North Country job seekers will have an opportunity to meet perspective new employers at the North Country Chamber of Commerce Job Fair from 4 to 8 p.m. May 15 at the West Side Ballroom, 253 New York Road.

The Job Fair is cosponsored by the North Country Chamber of Commerce, One WorkSource, North Country Workforce Investment Board, JSEC, Hometown Radio, Hall Communications, Plattsburgh-No. Country Service Corp. and WPTZ. The fair will give locals the opportunity to find out what jobs are available in the region for all types of job-seekers.

“We have all types of businesses that are coming from media, manufacturing, CDL (commercial drivers license) truck drivers,” said Chamber Administrative Assistant Becky Manor.

There will be jobs for those with a variety of work and educational experience, including factory positions, truck driver positions, office jobs, media jobs and administration work.

The chamber holds two job fairs a year, one in September and one in May. Manor said there is usually 300 to 400 applicants

Lumber Jills to host North Country Brawl

PLATTSBURGH — The Lumber Jills [4-1] beat the Capital City roller derby team from Ottawa last week after a close bout.

On Saturday May 18, the Lumber Jills will be playing against the Elm City Derby Damez from Keene, New Hampshire in the North Country Brawl.

Many counties have opted for an earlier lastcall, as provided by state law. Saratoga County has not, and neither, to date, has Warren County.

In Clinton County, bars close at 2 a.m.

Essex County, on the other hand, voted Monday May 6 to close their bars at 3 a.m., and we applaud their decision. Essex County leaders took the bold step of passing a resolution for bar closing time to be rolled back from 4 a.m. to 3 a.m. Their action was taken after hearing from Mac MacDevitt of The Prevention Team of Essex County that alcohol is the third leading root cause of preventable death in the U.S., and is a key factor in the leading causes of death for teens and young adults — unintentional injuries, violent crimes, vehicular crashes and murder.

Such alcohol-related incidents drive up the cost of health care, law enforcement, vehicular insurance and child welfare.

Warren County supervisors are now leaning toward striking a 3 a.m. compromise, which we believe makes sense. Kenny has said he will support a measure calling for a 3 a.m. last-call between May 25 and Sept. 15 and a 2 a.m. curfew the rest of the year. Such a proposal allows for later partying on the summer holidays and during major Lake George festivals.

This compromise accommodates the revenue concerns of tavern owners while offering the likely outcome of cutting down of criminal and violent behavior.

It also allows for restaurant and tavern employees to enjoy relaxing meet ups after work, while minimizing the incidence of drinkers crossing county borders at late hours for several more drinks. It’s unlikely that bar patrons will head out to a new destination at 3 a.m. for a few more drinks — they are much more likely to just go home.

Warren County leaders are now reaching out to their counterparts in Saratoga County to see if the two municipalities can collaborate on a 3 a.m. closing time — or maybe Kenny’s proposal — to minimize nighttime crime and DWI incidents.

We urge the leaders of the two counties to concentrate on the concerns of public safety and quality of life as they make their decisions, and not focus on the claims by a few tavern owners of their potential revenue loss.

In the meantime, we ask citizens to lobby their state legislators to enact a universal 2 a.m. or 3 a.m. bar closing time across New York State, or at least outside of New York City.

Nothing good occurs after 2 a.m. eek after week it seems, we read about violent acts in the region fueled by alcohol abuse.

Beatings, bar fights, street assaults, domestic attacks — many involving serious injuries or death. The toll is far higher when crashes involving drinking and driving are included.

Many of these incidents, law enforcement officials say, occur after perpetrators spend hours drinking at bars.

Statistics compiled by police indicate that a very high percentage of the incidents occur in the early morning hours.

Aware of these facts, Warren County and Saratoga County officials have proposed in recent years for bars to stop serving alcohol at 2 a.m. instead of the state limit, which is 4 a.m.

Most recently — after a brutal beating outside a bar in Glens Falls — city 5th Ward Supervisor William Kenny spearheaded a new effort to shorten the nighttime hours in Warren County taverns, citing some alarming crime statistics.

Noting that incidents of violent crime soar past 1 a.m. or so, he has often said that “nothing good” occurs after 2 a.m. — and we agree. Apparently so do leaders of other counties across the state. Thirty-six counties have closing times earlier than 4 a.m.

At a recent hearing of the Warren County Board of Supervisors, about a half-dozen bar owners objected to the two-hour change, claiming that the late-night violence stemmed from lack of effective law enforcement, or was due to the misbehavior of merely a few of their clientele, and that an earlier last-call wouldn’t solve the problem.

They argued their revenue would suffer, and that bar patrons would choose to spend their time reveling in other counties, decreasing Warren County’s sales tax revenue. Worse yet, they said patrons were likely to drive drunk many miles after closing time, to a neighboring county to find a bar still open.

Also, the bar proprietors said that the latenight hours were primarily to accommodate after-hours gatherings of restaurant and bar employees, relaxing after work.

We at Denton Publications have seen the statistics of late-night violent crime, and they are disturbing to say the least. This roster of statistics included the fact that in 2012, the county dispatch center received nearly 250 calls concerning violent fights between the hours of 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.

Timbuctoo performing for John Brown Days

SARANAC LAKE — John Brown Days will bring musical performances to the town of Saranac Lake and a celebration at the John Brown Farm.

The Northern Lights Choir, under the direction of Helen Demong, will bring back the voices of Gerrit Smith and the 1900’s Adirondack settlement of Timbuctoo in an original Oratorio, “Voices of Timbuctoo”, composed by Glenn McClure. They will open the concert with four choral pieces, “O Captain, My Captain”, “True Light”, “This Is My Song” from Finlandia, and “Battle Hymn of the Republic”. “Voices of Timbuctoo”, set for SATB Chorus, soloists Marsha Andrews and George Cordes and instrumentalists, will be performed the second half of the concert. This premiere concert is in conjunction with John Brown Days which will be performed on Saturday May 11 at 2 p.m. at John Brown’s Farm, 115 John Brown Road, Lake Placid.

The show will feature the talents of: Peter Cadieux, local storytelling through song, Saren Only, a local indie pop trio, Ninosaka, a musical group that brings international sounds to the local crowd, Eesome Bones, banjo oriented folk duo from Plattsburgh, Justin Vancour, local indie singer songwriter and Shannon Ferguson, playing local guitar and ukulele tunes.

Admission to the show varies on a $3 to $10 pay-what-you-can sliding scale.

Monopole brings the “Snacks” to stage

PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh Reggae band, the Snacks, will perform at the Monopole, 7 Protection Ave, on May 10 at 10 p.m.

The Snacks is a fusion of Plattsburgh musicians from bands like Eat. Sleep.

Funk. and others that have joined forces to bring the light and rhythmic beats of reggae to Plattsburgh.

Pendragon will present “Aladdin”

SARANAC LAKE — The Pendragon Theatre has announced its 2013 spring family classic, Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp by Michele L. Vacca. Matt Sorensen is directing the production, with scenic and costume design by Kent Streed, lighting design by Bonnie B. Brewer and original scores by Phill Greenland.

The show opens on Sunday, May 12, at Pendragon Theatre, 15 Brandy Brook Ave, for a special Mother’s Day performance at 1 p.m. Moms get in free during mothers day showing. Subsequent performances will take place on May 24, 25, and 31 at 4 p.m.; May 26 at 7 p.m.; June 1 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.; July 5, 16 and 30 at 11 a.m. and August 10, 23 and 30 at 11 a.m.

Tickets for Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp are $8 for all seats, children under 5 are free. All seating is general admission.

Square dance with Hooterville Express

JAY — Jems will present a Let’s Dance night on May 11 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Amos & Julia Ward Theatre, 1 Park Place.

The evening will feature live music by Hooterville Express bringing lively music for dancers to step to. The night promises to be a mix of country music, dancing and rock and roll fused together.

Admission is $6.

Jim will open Smoke Signal Stage

LAKE PLACID — The group “Jim” will take the stage for opening night at Smoke Signals, 2489 Main Street, beginning at 9 p.m. on May 11 Jim is a loud, funky, irreverent, driving rock-n-roll music group that has been playing together since 1995. Together they have released three albums.

Yes, things are happening in Plattsburgh! The summer season is beginning with a lot of promise that will enliven our downtown, get people together and inspire us to continue to meet and engage in the life of our community. V2A is a collection of people committed to the idea of creating a community for now and for our children, grandchildren, and beyond. The Arts, Transportation, Recreation, and Education are the four core areas that intersect to form the heart of a “vibrant community where families can thrive.” First Fridays is a V2A summer plan to get everyone out to celebrate the warmth in downtown Plattsburgh. The action begins Friday, June 7 and will continue on the 1st Fridays in July and August with music, outdoor eating, and summer fun.

It should not be about rails versus trails “The Adirondack North Country Association hereby re-states its support for the mixed-use management objectives of the Remsen-Lake Placid Travel Corridor Final Management Plan, currently in force, and further supports the retention of all railroad infrastructure which can support economic development, including tourism, through enhanced rail operations in the future.”

Resolution by the ANCA Board of Directors, September 27, 2012 It should be noted that the focus of ANCA’s resolution is on the “mixed-use management objectives” of the existing Unit Management Plan (UMP). ANCA sees significant economic opportunity in the retention and further use of the rails and in the broader use of the rail corridor for trail-based recreation including hiking, biking, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, etc. All of these are acknowledged to be desirable in the UMP and that plan actually directs DOT and DEC to develop both. Rail and trail activities are economic engines that can build our local and regional economies. We need to fully understand the synergy between them and we need better planning and focused investments to ensure we can have both.

Guest Viewpoint It is a shame that we are having a long public debate about rails or trails. It is a choice that should not be made. Those who advocate removing the rails are asking the State to make a decision which will satisfy some people while angering others. “Win/Lose.” Elected and appointed officials should not be expected to do that when a “Win/Win” is possible. New York State agencies and many stakeholders have already spent years creating the current Unit Management Plan which, if fully implemented, will satisfy a very wide range of interests. The next step should be full implementation.

ANCA agreed to be the pre-application sponsor for federal Strategic Transportation Enhancement Program (STEP) funding because the Adirondack Railway Preservation Society (ARPS) had done a detailed analysis to determine how much it would cost to rehabilitate the line to Class II passenger service (up to 35 miles an hour). On the trail issue, it is more complicated.

The UMP calls for a north-south trail and says it should move outside of the travel corridor to adjoining State lands and private lands (through easements) as needed to avoid obstacles. However, neither DEC nor DOT has defined this trail with specific delineations on maps or on the ground. What is needed south of Saranac Lake is detailed trail planning to determine the best physical layout, development costs, and legal and operational issues. This will require an interagency effort with key stakeholders, including local governments and recreational users.

The rails and related infrastructure should be preserved and

rehabilitated. They are important economic development assets and are part of a system listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places. At the same time, the State of New York, with local government and not-for-profit partners, should complete a pragmatic implementation plan for the current UMP that clearly defines a north-south trail system to meet the needs of recreational users, including snowmobilers who have full access to the corridor during the winter.

We are pleased that ARPS recognizes that trains should be used as for recreational access, moving people and their kayaks, canoes, mountain bikes and other gear to launch points and trail heads along the corridor. Just imagine how the rail line and a trail system between communities could help our region become a stronger destination for paddlers, mountain bikers, and hikers.

Building synergy between rails and trails is a core objective of the current UMP. We don’t need to waste valuable resources and time revising that document. We need to make it work for both rail and trail related activities and for the communities along the corridor. A man I greatly respect has said, “people in the Adirondacks would rather fight than win.” While we have moved beyond that in most areas through such good efforts as the Common Ground Alliance and the Adirondack Futures Project, the rail versus trail argument is a perfect example of preferring fighting over winning.

Take Back the Night march disrupted

katherine@denpubs.com PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh State students, staff and community members joined in a rally on April 30 to empower survivors of sexual violence and to demand accountability after the annual Take Back the Night march was interrupted by negative remarks from a group of young men on Brinkerhoff Street April 27.

Nearly 200 students and community members gathered on the Redcay lawn on Brinkerhoff Street to support empowerment of victims of sexual assault.

They were also there to protest a few members of the AXP Fraternity who, according to participants in the Take Back the Night march, yelled “sluts” at the participants as they walked by the fraternity on Brinkerhoff Street.

“They were yelling sluts, sluts,” said Simona Sharoni, chair of the Gender and Women’s Studies Department at SUNY Plattsburgh. “It was so loud it drowned over our own chant, there

were 200 of us and maybe three of them.”

Members of the fraternity have denied saying anything, though the fraternity’s president later released a statement saying the members regretted something like that had happened.

Sharoni said prior to the derogatory remarks two freshman students who had been sexually assaulted while at a party had just shared their stories with the group.

“We take our march down the streets near fraternities because of the environment after large parties and drinking, after people clear out and young women are vulnerable, intoxicated and alone and I’ve heard about many cases from my students that turn out this way (sexual assault),” Sharoni said. “Some of the survivors of rape were so upset they could not continue the march.”

After the march, news of the statements made from the fraternity spread around campus and the community, with social media helping get the word out. Sharoni said they wanted to hold a rally to bring closure to the march they were unable to complete.

“We had about 200, many rape survivors, who had not come to Take Back the Night come to the rally with signs; they were very

brave,” Sharoni said.

“Most rapes are not reported because the woman becomes the one on trial. She is afraid of being called a slut, tormented, and having her past put on display. When these men called out ‘sluts’ they affirmed that. We need to change the rape culture.

We shouldn’t be teaching women and little girls how not to be raped, but teach men and potential offenders how not to rape and abuse.”

Lynda Ames, SUNY Plattsburgh Affirmative Action Officer, said her officer primarily deals with cases of sexual assault.

Though she couldn’t comment on the statements made at the march, she said in general when an allegation comes forward her office investigates to see if there was a criminal violation.

“Here we aim to educate and create a healthy atmosphere on campus for students. We put out the message every year,” Ames said. “I can tell you the number of rapes on campus and across the country are down but I can also tell you that most rapes are not reported.”

Ames said the college will be conducting its own investigation into the matter.

Chazy Central Rural School to perform Spring Concert

perform in the Chazy Central Rural School’s Spring Concert.

The performance, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7 p.m. and include a wide variety of musical styles including the jazz band, chorus, orchestra and concert band.

“The first group is third graders, who will be doing a demonstration on their recorders, and the High School Band will be finishing up with some John Williams songs,” said Robert Langr, Chazy Central Rural School’s Band Director. “It’s accessible, quality music that everybody knows.”

Some of the widely recognized music will include a medley of tunes from movies like Star Wars and E.T. during the “John Williams in Concert” performance, and the song “Brick House” by the Commodores will be performed by the Jazz Ensemble.

The concert will also feature some a mix of modern and traditional numbers.

In “The Belle of Amherst,” her poems are used to advance her life, but they are not used in the chronological order that she wrote them.

Instead, the playwright put them into the time period that they fit into her life.

Recchia has been performing “Belle of Amherst” for about six years, and has even used scenes from the play to try out for parts in other productions.

The last time she performed it was one year ago at the Whallonsburg Grange.

“It’s very cathartic,” Recchia said. “There’s something that touches me when I do it, and I certainly hope it touches the audience. It’s a chance to hear her poetry come alive in the context of her life. It’s beautiful.”

Recchia’s performance will take place the day after the Adirondack Quilt Show opens at the NCCCA on Friday, May 17.

Relay for life team gets physical with a Zumbathon

The Relay for Life Plattsburgh event will be held at the Clinton County Fairgrounds, 84 Fair Grounds Road, beginning with the survivors lap at 7 p.m. The lap will be followed by a luminaria ceremony. The ceremony takes place after dark, so people can remember people lost to cancer, honor people who have fought cancer in the past, and support those whose fight continues. A fight back ceremony, a history of the event will be discussed, along with musical performances, and activities like Zumbathon will keep the Relay event going until 7 a.m. the next morning.

“If you’ve never been to a relay event it’s truly a moving event, once you go you have to go ever year,” said Dumas. “It’s a great way to show support, everyone’s lives have been touched by cancer in one way or another and the relay event is one way we can honor people who have died and encourage people who are fighting right now.”

Admission is $7 per Zumba participant.

PLATTSBURGH — The Relay for Life team “Motivators” will host a Zumbathon at the Our Lady of Victory Church at 4919 South Catherine Street, on May 10. The Zumbathon will begin at 7 p.m. and go till 8:30 p.m.

“Our team is the Motivators; our team’s goal is to encourage teams to promote healthy lifestyle, eating, stop smoking, skin care, and things like that,” said Co-Captain of the Motivators, Penny Dumas. “The theme of the relay for this year is ‘Lets Get Physical, Kicking Cancer’s Butt’ and we thought, what better way to do that than with Zumba?”

The Motivators hosted an impromptu Zumbathon on April 13 and Dumas said there were almost 55 people there.

“We got the word out through Facebook and friends, we’re hoping to double that at this event,” said Dumas.

Zumbathon instructors Jessica Coupal and Carrie Trombley have volunteered to lead the fast-paced and lively salsa/hip hop inspired workout. The event will have a disco-theme with lights, disco balls and more donated by Taylor Rental.

“It’s going to be really fun. People can dance, have fun, raise money for a good cause and get healthy all at the same time,” said Dumas. “The community has been really helpful in donating time and resources to help us raise money for Relay and we really appreciate it.”

Team Motivators also call to all Zumba and relay enthusiasts to “bring the purple power” by creatively donning purple to show support for Relay for Life. Prizes will be awarded to the best of show of purple power.

At the event there will also be Relay for Life raffle tickets available for a chance to win a variety of prizes such as: a $250 gift certificate to Hannaford; a 42’ LCD television; two tickets to a Boston Red Socks vs. New York Yankee game and more. Raffle tickets will be drawn after the Relay for Life event on June 14.

dirondackers have again begun practicing that old, familiar wave. It’s not really due to the fact everyone in the region is a happy sort. Rather, it means they’ve already begun swatting away the black flies, as a last resort.

Fortunately the flies have been a bit slow to bite so far, however I expect they’ll have their teeth into fresh flesh within a few days.

Headnets or bug dope will soon be in great demand, as wave after wave of cursing and cussing Adirondackers begin to wage a battle against the usual spring plague.

For those brave souls who disdain either the wave or a headnet, there is still hope. I recently discovered a newly minted supply of the best bug dope elixir to be found. It may soon be available at an outdoor shop near you.

I found my little, green bottle of “Ol Woodsman Fly Dope” at The Mountaineer in Keene Valley. Vinnie McClelland, the store’s proprietor explained the dope’s manufacturer had just released a fresh batch.

With just one whiff, I knew it was true. That stuff will keep away everything and anything that bothers your, whether it is bugs, small children, in-laws or even the law.

I know of one fellow who was picked up by the troopers for hitchhiking. After being told to get in the troop car, he applied a bit of dope to his ears. The cops promptly tossed him back on the street, as there was no need to have that vile stink in the car!

During the Adirondack spring, there are few viable options for bug protection. It’s sink or swim, stink or itch, or just keep on swatting.

“Look Marvin, those friendly Adirondack folks are waving goodbye, again!”

“Those rascalous, scoundrely, guides.”

Many have claimed that you can only believe about half the tales an Adirondack guide tells you, which is almost true.

The difficult part of the equation is trying to figure out which is the true half, or the half truth.

It was years ago, when I first began packing in pack rafts to fish the remote ponds of the park. Pack rafts were much more portable than even the smallest, pack canoes, which often proved unwieldy

on steep climbs or difficult to navigate through the thick spruce and balsam forests.

Most of the rafts were compact enough to fit inside a backpack, and yet they easily inflated to full size with just a foot pump.

I am still using my original Sea Eagle brand inflatable rafts that I purchased over 30 years ago. Sure, there are a few patches, but the little boats have stood up well to many long days on the water.

I’ve also used them for an air mattress. I find they fit snugly inside a two man Timberline tent, with room to spare.

In the early 1980’s, I introduced Paul Keesler to the joys and ease of pack raft angling. Paul was the editor and publisher of the popular NY Sportsman magazine at the time.

I explained the rafts were much quieter, efficient and portable than the heavy old, Grumann, aluminum canoe he was using at the time.

trout on the ponds, and we accessed several waters located on the mountain summits.

We often joked about filling our rafts with helium, which would allow for an easy descent from the mountaintops.

It was always fun and games, jokes and junkets, with plenty of fine fishing to fill the day.

I don’t recall what issue of the magazine it was, but Paul sent me several copies in addition to my regular monthly subscription.

On page 6, there was a cartoon with a caricature of Paul and a guy with a baseball hat, hovering over a pond in a raft, casting lines. A tank of helium rested against the tent, and the joke was on me.

Years later, as I was busy pumping up a raft while atop a small summit, I was surprised by a group from a Japanese hiking club.

Since there was no apparent water, from their vantage point atop the rocky knoll; they were obviously very curious to learn what I was up to.

One fellow asked rather sheepishly, “What are your doing?”

“Going fishing,” I replied.

“Where?” he remarked.

“Why, down there, of course.” I explained, pointing to a small pond located nearly a mile below the ledge.

“How do you get there?” was his next line.

“Helium,” I answered. “I pump it into the raft.”

“Can we watch?” he asked excitedly, as the group began moving to the edge of the cliff for a better view.

“Sure,” I offered, “Just stay right there.”

With their backs to me, I promptly shouldered the raft and set off down the trail. They didn’t even notice. They sat there staring down at the pond below, as if expecting me to make an entrance at any moment.

Minutes had passed before they followed me down the trail to a nearby pond. When the got there, I was already in the raft, landing a fish.

“Aren’t you going to fly?” asked one of the younger hikers.

“No,” I replied, “The fishing is too good right here.”

Then he mumbled something, pointed at me and they all burst into laughter, “Crazy American!”

I agreed.

“Kids naturally have a keen sense of curiosity and incredible imaginations,” said Jane Owens, Mountain Lake PBS Director of Outreach and Education, in a press release. “The ‘PBS Kids Go! Writers Contest’ provides a safe forum for our region’s children to express their ideas while fostering key early literacy skills like story-telling.”

To help celebrate this year’s winners, local author and illustrator Sheri Amsel demonstrated her method for illustration in an interactive presentation with the contest winners.

The celebration will be broadcast in a 30-minute special on Mountain Lake PBS on June 27 at 8:30 p.m. and on June 29th at 6 p.m.

Former Plattsburgh resident Tony Villeneuve, of Clifton Park, New York, will be competing in the 135-pound class.

His match-up against David Weintraub of New York City will be the first that evening.

Villeneuve has studied various forms of martial arts, including Taekwondo, Japanese Jiu Jitsu and Judo, and he also keeps himself in peak physical condition.

Between running and biking he covers 100 miles a week, and most of his work-outs include calisthenics and cardiovascular exercises—countless sit-ups, push-ups and squats.

There are also frequent visits to the dojo, and relaxing often involves watching other fighters to study their moves.

The training regime has infiltrated so much of his life that he said it has become something more—a lifestyle.

But the lifestyle, he said, is a healthy one, and it is necessary if he is ever going to go pro.

According to Villeneuve, mixed martial arts is not about violence, and for him, it isn’t about hurting his opponent, either.

“I have respect for my opponents,” Villeneuve said. “I’m not trying to injure anybody or anything like that. Hopefully nobody gets hurt along the way.”

Villeneuve said the sport has changed a lot since it became big in the mid-1990s, and that many of the newer rules and regulations were put in place to protect the fighters.

“We’re not doing soccer kicks to the head or bare-knuckle fighting,” Villeneuve said. “It’s a really safe sport, and the people that compete in the sport love it.”

And a love of the sport is why Villeneuve works so hard.

“If I do lose some fights along the way, which is probably going to happen, I’ll just take what I can from those fights and use it to get better,” Villeneuve said.

He has another fight lined up later this summer, and hopes to have more on the horizon soon.

Fourteen matches in seven different weight classes, from 135 pounds to super heavy weight, are scheduled for “Battle in Plattsburgh 2,” including a title match between Shamel Tyler and Andre Belcarris. Five of the competitors in Saturday’s event are from Plattsburgh—Ed Bressette, Randy Lamb, Bill Mayette, Frank Palumbo and Matt Provost. Nick Roberts, from Champlain and Lane Sawyer, from Au Sable Forks, will also be competing.

This person will have highly developed bookkeeping and financial skills handling accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, payroll and administrative accounting functions for our group of community newspapers and web printing facility.

Applicants should have an accounting degree or a minimum of 10 year accounting experience, be a quick learner with knowledge of accounting software, spread sheets, and have excellent organizational skills with strong attention to details. This position offers an opportunity for advancement once fully acclimated to our organization.
