BRANT LAKE — Horicon Day, the local free community festival that was launched last year and immediately embraced by area citizens, is returning this year with expectations of a larger crowd. Horicon Day 201 1 will be featuring far more offerings, according to event organizer Maureen Wilson. This year’s event is set for Aug. 6 (rain date Aug. 7). Several attractions start at 1 p.m, and the fest kicks off at 2 p.m. Returning will be the 4:30 p.m. exhibition softball game between North Warren students and oldsters, a Boy Scout encampment, the classic car and boat show , the greased watermelon contest and fireworks at dusk. The lineup of musical entertainment will include two bands plus individual musicians: Mike Leddick and band, performing country hits and rock ‘n’ roll; Wendy Joy Hayes, Joe Burka and a group titled “COV.” New attractions include a Warren County Sherif f ’s office “Pr oject Safe Child” booth, blood pr essure and glucose scr eening by the North Warren emergency squad, a Horicon Library book sale and a moving river display by the East Shor e Schroon Lake Association. Children’s activities include a bounce house, obstacle course and face painting.

loving crowd Saturday night at the Smoke Eaters’ Jamboree, Rick Hull reflected on his experience. “We had a helluva big attendance Saturday,” he said. “The AudioStars band r eally r ocked and people loved ‘em, then afterwards we had great fireworks.”

The cr owd on Satur day, which followed a rainy opening Friday night for the carnival-type event, was one of the best ever, he said. “It was a good time all around,” he said.
