WARRENSBURG — Local school officials advised graduates to embrace technology yet stay connected to their r oots, during Warrensburg High School’s commencement ceremonies Friday June 24. Tracking the societal changes that had occurred since the Class of 201 1 had entered Kinder garten, Superintendent of Schools Tim Lawson noted that the graduating students had grown up with evolving technology that had allowed them unprecedented access to information and to each other. “Living on the edge and taking in life is as or more important than it used to be,” he said. “Technology is a great tool, but it should not be a substitute for family , friends and face-to-face interaction.” While this pr esent generation of students was the first ever to spend so many hours instant messaging, texting via cell phone and most recently posting updates on social network sites like Facebook, many have worried that such virtual connections might reduce the depth and fullness of life’s experiences. Offering a site plan overview Monday, June 27 to county officials, Lisa Nagle of Elan Planning describes initial plans for redevelopment of the former Gaslight Village into the West Brook environmental park. A series of public sessions are set for next week to gather ideas from local citizens on what amenities the park should include.
LAKE GEORGE — County officials offered up visions Monday, June 27 of how the former Gaslight Village is to be transformed into an envir onmental park, in advance of upcoming public hearings scheduled to gather ideas from the public. The former amusement park, vacant in recent years but once a mainstay attraction in Lake George Village, is scheduled for conversion into an expansive environmental park. Plans call for the 12.7-acre property straddling West Brook to be turned into a park, festival grounds and wetlands that are intended to reduce pollutants flowing into Lake George. A task force of officials overseeing this West Brook Environmental Park will be seeking public input on what amenities should be included in the venue. Public informational sessions have been scheduled for Monday, July 1 1 though Thursday, July 14 at Fort W illiam Henry Hotel, to hear ideas from local citizens on the park’s potential attributes.
