BOLTON LANDING — The musicians of Bolton High School Marching Band thoroughly enjoyed their appearance as featured performers at a New York Mets baseball game last week, band director Stan Walkanowski reported Monday. The 36-member band performed the “Star Spangled Banner” just before the first pitch of the Mets showdown May 5 with San Francisco Giants at Citi Field in Queens. “It was an incredible thrill,” he said. “The band played so well — I was really proud of

them.” And although the Bolton band’s performance wasn’t broadcast over national television like the rest of the game, it was beamed back to Bolton via the clever work of a school administrator. LAKE GEORGE — The village government has has been awarded a $650,000 grant from the state Environmental Facilities Corporation through the agency’s Green Innovation grant program. The highly competitive program is funded through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Faced with elevated nitrate concentration in the village sewer system’s effluent, the Village applied for money to complete their multi-year effort to upgrade and boost efficiency of its wastewater treatment plant. The funds will allow the Village to undertake a project to install the latest technology to remove nitrogen from the plant’s effluent. “This is a major step in achieving the plant’s efficiency and making it one of the nation’s most effective on-site wastewater facilities, Village Mayor Robert Blais said.

The various boards of education had to devise ways to keep taxes low — because of voter sentiment and prevailing economic conditions — while dealing with ballooning costs for fuel, employee health care and retirement plans in the face of reduced State Aid. In the Warrensburg Central School District, initial forecasts called for cuts to many programs and positions in order to keep any tax increase at a minimum — but most of the posts and programs were restored in the final budget draft. The 2011-2012 proposed budget calls for total spending of
