thom@denpubs.com ATHOL — With the Thurman Emer gency Squad now balking at fulfilling r equirements of a 2011 service contract they signed with the town just a few months ago, local officials have urged the squad members to meet with their counterpart agency in W arrensburg and talk about consolidation or a partnership. On Monday, April 4, the squad’s new leadership told the board they couldn’t live up to the agr eement that stipulated no patient billing, an 80 percent response rate, and no paid employees. The squad leaders asked the board for paid staf fing, the ability to institute “soft” billing for services, and for all of their year ’s $50,000 stipend in advance. “I implor e you, please give this new leadership a chance,” newly elected squad pr esident Jean Coulard said. Ad’k League slashes games due to snow

In an effort to minimize a delay to schedule upcoming games, members of the Warrensburg Varsity Baseball team chop and shovel Monday, April 4 at accumulated snow and ice covering on their practice field behind the local elementary school. Due to fields not being ready, the Adirondack League voted last week to cancel three weeks of sanctioned baseball and softball games and begin 2011’s official league competition April 25.

denpubs@denpubs.com WARRENSBURG — After hearing outcry from the public air ed in several public meetings, the W arrensburg Central School Boar d has r estored funding in the pending 201 112 budget for Junior V arsity sports, cheerleading and several teaching posts. The spending plan, which goes up for an endorsement April 1 1 by the Board of Education and a public vote on May 17, calls for a decr ease in spending of 3.44 per cent fr om the present year. WARRENSBURG — Area high school baseball and softball teams’ lineup of sanctioned games will be cut in about half for 201 1, as the Adirondack League has cancelled all league games scheduled from March 31 to April 23. Athletic directors of schools competing in the Adirondack League met last week and decided to postpone the beginning of the Adirondack L eague m atchups t o April 2 5 due to the persistence of snow on many schools’ playing fields.
