WARRENSBURG — Former Town Supervisor Calvin Engle, a man who was known for his unparalleled civic involvement, was fondly remembered by community leaders this week following his funeral Monday, Feb. 14. Engle, 86, who operated landmark local businesses and served an active role in 18 local organizations, died Feb. 10 at Tri-County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in North Creek. Hours after the funeral, town supervisor Kevin Geraghty said Engle was for many decades a pillar of the community and had touched many lives through his involvement. “All Cal’s actions in the organizations he worked in were always for the betterment of the community,” Geraghty said. As town supervisor in the mid-1980s, Engle was credited for moving the town government forward into the modern era — primarily by initiating zoning and planning efforts, advocating intermunicipal cooperation, and launching work towards responsible sewage waste disposal.

Officials push to keep Americade here By Thom Randall thom@denpubs.com LAKE GEORGE — Local and state officials will be meeting soon to negotiate lower state fees in an effort to dissuade Americade motorcycle rally founder Bill Dutcher from moving his nationally famous event out of the

area, Mayor Blais reported Monday. Blais said Dutcher is poised to move the rally to Springfield Mass. or another municipality in the northeast U.S. as soon as 2012 if he can’t get the state Department of Environmental Conservation brass to lower their $82,000 fee for the use of the Million Dollar Beach parking lot down to its historic level of

about $50,000 for a week. Blais said state Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward and perhaps state Sen. Betty Little are expected to participate in this meeting. “We’re going to Albany and plead our case,” he said. “Dutcher said the proposed DEC fees are not acceptable.”

Supreme Court Justice David Krogmann recently rendered a decision in that case limiting access to documents from the Chestertown Fire Co., noting that the group was an independent group and not a public entity, although they provide a public service.
