Green vs. ART FROM THE HEART green in Vermont By Rob Nikolewski Vermont Watchdog Report MONTPELIER Ñ ItÕ s green versus green in the Green Mountain State. Tensions have flared in Vermont, home to legislators and policy groups who like touting their environmental bona fides. The flash point is the state’s renewable energy requirements insisting state utilities derive 75 percent of their electric power from renewable sources by 2032 and a nonlegislated goal of generating a whopping 90 percent of all VermontÕ s energy from renewables by 2050. NEW HAVEN Ñ Today, when you meet Paul Vachon, 77, heÕ ll more likely remind you of a French-Canadian pŽ pŽ Ñ grandfatherÑ than a former world-champion professional wrestler, known as Ò The ButcherÓ . But Vachon, who retired from the popular sport in 1984 and now calls Vermont home, is one facet of the story of Canada’s popular Vachons, the pioneering first family of the pro-wrestling sport. In fact, Paul VachonÕ s so proud of his life on the mat that he has written a rip-roaring, three-volume English-language autobiography about his life, titled Ò When Wrestling Was RealÓ . The paperback books, sporting lots of photographs of VachonÕ s worldwide smack downs, are published by Quebec-based publisher Patric Laprade and printer Impression Prioritaire. Vachon was the center of attention at his exhibit tent adjoining the midway during the 2015 Addison County Fair & Field Days, Aug. 4-8. The retired wrestler was accompanied by Addison County resident and wrestler aficionado Roy Haynes. Haynes, featured in the Eagle in 2006, is best known as TVÕ s Ò Cheapest Man in AmericaÓ ; he has been featured on ABC-TVÕ s Ò 20/20Ó and is a Ò RipleyÕ s Believe It or NotÓ icon. Haynes is a friend and fan of Paul Vachon. CONTINUED ON PAGE 11
