Scott blocks pro-gun posts By Lou Varricchio THE V ERMONT EAGLE EDITOR
MIDDLEBURY | Some conservative Vermonters are upset regarding Gov. Phil Scott’s recent campaign-promise flip-flop over gun control in the wake of an averted shooting at Fair Haven Union High School by a Poultney teen. And their less than gentle social-media comments, allegedly being deleted from the governor’s Facebook page, are now getting the attention of the American Civil Liberties Union. J.T. Dodge of Newbury, a Second Amendment rights advocate and director of the Vermont Citizens Defense League, was one of the individuals whose Facebook comments were deleted by the Scott team. “I was blocked about a month and half ago,” he said. “ACLU Vermont has asked a lot of us to pull our deleted (or blocked) comments together and send them to attorney Jay Diaz.” Dodge isn’t sure why his comments were targeted for deletion. “My comments weren’t out of line in my view, even though there’s a lot of animosity regarding this governor,” he said. “Gov. Scott is the opposite of what we all expected, so there’s going to be strong reactions online. My comments weren’t rude or derogatory. I never swear or call people names online. Yes, I said a lot but I wanted to keep this topic going. It’s so easy for the governor to change the subject or change the focus. Facebook makes it very easy.” » Scott Cont. on pg. 20

Legalization and commercial sale of marijuana in Vermont would see more mental illness, including schizophrenia, requiring an estimated $4.9 - $11 million in treatment costs. These costs would offset the estimated $7.4 million in revenue. These fi ndings appear in a White Paper,
“Marijuana in Vermont and the Increased Burden of Schizophrenia,” co-authored by Dr. Christine Miller, a pharmacologist specializing in neuroscience, and released in 2016 by Smart Approaches to Marijuana in Vermont (SAM-VT). The study does not monetize additional known societal impacts, including treatment for physical health problems, property crime, DUI enforcement and accidents, law enforcement needed for increased black market cultivation and sales, and academic and employee performance. » Legalization Cont. on pg. 6
