Skier dead of head injuries By Lou Varricchio newmarketpress@ denpubs.com RUTLAND Ñ On Dec. 13, the Vermont State Police at Rutland received a 911 concerning an overdue and missing skier on Killington Mountain. Friends of Jennifer Strohl, 21, of Jim Thorpe, Pa., contacted ski patrol after not being able to make contact with her. Strohol’s friends were separated from Strohl earlier in the day and hadnÕ t seen her while skiing the Great Northern Trail. “Killington Ski patrol began a search and retraced Strohl’s route, locating her 10 feet off the side of the trail at approximately 16:45 hours when VSP was contacted. Strohl’s death is currently under investigation but doesnÕ t appear to be suspicious at this time. Strohl was not wearing a helmet and sustained head injuries as a result of an apparent collision,” according to Sgt. Thomas Mozzer of Vermont State Police C Troop.

HOLIDAY BEARS
By Elicia Mailhiot newmarketpress@denpubs.com RUTLAND Ñ Dec. 17 was a bittersweet day for me. But there’s something about the blood in this town. Then, on Dec. 17, I was reminded why I choose to call Rutland home. Despite a population of just under 17,000 people, this small community CONTINUED ON PAGE 7
It was a very Merry Christmas for a group of Rutland-area children when students from the Stafford Technical Center’s Recreation, Resort, and Small Business Management Program played Santa. The children were part of the BROC Community Action In Southwest Vermont annual effort with the school. The students donated teddy bears they hand crafted at the Vermont Teddy Bear Company in Shelburne. Each gift contained a teddy bear, special snacks, and a personalized card.
