Wyman family farm is focus of new book The Vermont Folklife Center has published a book documenting a complete year in the life of a Vermont family dairy farm. A reception will be held at VFC headquarters from 5–7 p.m. on Sept. 17. The 224-page paperback, “Forty-Six Years of Pretty Straight Going: The Life of a Family Dairy Farm” follows Weybridge farmers, Larry and Grayson Wyman, over the course of two years and provides the reader with a visual and first-person narrative of a working farm. The documentary combines 165 contemporary and historical photographs, the author ’s background introductions, historical accounts of farming dating to the first settlers, and narratives by the Wyman family.

Superstars of spirit! By Lou Varricchio newmarketpress@denpubs.com

The VUHS Four are already working on raising the $12,000 they’ll need to perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on NBC-TV.

TRACKSIDE DEPOT — Architect Jean Terwilliger of Cornwall unveiled a sketch of the refurbished Middlebury Trackside Depot on Seymour Street in downtown Middlebury. The early 1900s passenger train station has been home for a variety of retailers since it was closed when the Rutland Railroad ceased operations in the early 1960s. Currently the firm Trackside Depot LLC, owned by Addison County businessman Steve Dupoise, is restoring the depot to its former glory. When completed, the new depot will offer ideal space for local businesses. Image courtesy Jean Terwilliger & Trackside Depot LLC

Meet Capricia Burbo, Cynthia Holler, Katelynn Viau, and Jennifer Cunningham of Vergennes Union High School. These spirited school cheerleaders attended a big cheer camp sponsored by the National Cheerleading Association in June. The quartet spent the summer focusing their efforts on the new school year but are now coordinating several important fundraising projects that will help send them to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City in November. When the girls returned home from camp, they came back with a distinct honor to their credit—they had been nominated to be All-American Cheerleaders by association camp leaders. But with the All-American honors were attached just a few strings: the girls have to earn their way to perform during the Macy’s parade. It’s a big deal since millions of network television viewers, coast-to-coast, will be watching new talent in the parade including the “VUHS Four”. The girls planned performance will be broadcast on NBC-TV Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25, so there isn’t much time

‘The Logger’ will be Woofstock’s comic relief By Lou Varricchio newmarketpress@denpubs.com ACHS, the Addison County Humane Society, will celebrate the animals with Woofstock, an annual fun walk and festival for the animals, Saturday, Oct. 2, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Middlebury Recreation Park. Humorist, actor, and Addison Eagle columnist Rusty “The Logger” DeWess will be on hand as a celebrity judge. ACHS invites pet owners to bring along a pooch and pound the pavement to help raise funds for the ACHS animal shelter. Walkers are permitted to participate in Woofstock as either individuals or as members of teams. Participants may bring along a dog al-

though having a dog to walk is not a requirement to raise money for the shelter. Walker pledge forms are available at the shelter on Boardman Street or online at www.addisonhumane.org or www.firstgiving.com/addisonhumane In addition to the fund-raising walk, Woofstock features several local artists and vendors, food, live music, and a dog demonstration featuring Green Mountain Disc Dogs and a police K-9 unit. In addition, the silly Pet Tricks Contest, where dogs perform their best and silliest tricks, will welcome DeWees, “The Logger”, as the judge. A Pet Costume and Pet Look-A-Like Contest will also be judged by DeWees. Games and prizes will also be part of the lineup.
