Miller Orchestra in May and also had the Count Basie Orchestra that October. Both events were fund raisers for the Moriah Central School Music Department. This concert will also be a fund raiser as our music students will be having a bake sale throughout the evening. “After the success of the first two concerts, I was constantly being asked what band would be coming next,” he said. Ò To save on the expenses of hosting such high quality bands, I started

looking at hosting one of the militaryÕ s bands. A couple of years ago our auditorium was renovated with professional lighting and I thought it would be nice to have another world-class performance group on our stage. I contacted the office of the U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors a few years ago, and they mentioned that when they toured next in our area, they would contact me again.” CONTINUED ON PAGE 17

By Fred Herbst TICONDEROGA Ñ L‡ FhŽ ile Ph‡ draig shona duit. For those who donÕ t speak Gaelic, it means Happy St. PatrickÕ s Day Ñ a greeting certain to be heard many times at the Ticonderoga Knights of Columbus in coming days. Those who are Irish, and those who wish they were, will have two opportunities to celebrate St. PatrickÕ s Day this year. The Knights will host their annual Irishman of the Year dinner and roast Saturday, March 15. The Irishman of the Year, a local resident, is selected by a Knights of Columbus committee. A corned beef dinner will be served at 6 p.m. and the Irishman of the Year, a closely-guarded secret, will be honored Ñ or roasted Ñ at 7 p.m. Tickets, priced at $12, will be available at the door. Tickets can also be purchased in advance by calling the Knights of Columbus at 585-6520. The event is open to the public. Jim Guyette was the 2013 Irishman of the Year. John Lenhart was the 2012 Irishman of the Year. Dick Liddell was the 2011 Irishman of the Year. Ò It seems to get more and more difficult to keep it a secret,” Knight Ralph Corbo said of the Irishman of the Year award. Ò Everyone wants to know who it will be. TheyÕ ll just have to come to the dinner.”
