katherine@denpubs.com PLATTSBURGH Ñ There will be a collective sigh across the North Country this week as students, parents and school faculty members catch the final breaths of summer and gain enthusiasm for the upcoming school year. Ò WeÕ re excited for everyone to come back and weÕ re ready to get back to work in our schools,Ó said Chazy Rural School Superintendent John Fairchild. At Chazy, Fairchild said students will be welcomed with a lot of energy from new staff members. Ò We had a fair amount of staff members choose to retire CONTINUED ON PAGE 10

CHAZY Ñ With days getting shorter, that can only mean one thing in the town of Chazy. ItÕ s time to defend their state soccer title. In 2013, it is the Chazy varsity boys soccer team that will be in defense of a NYSPHSAA Class D championship after winning a sixth team title in 2012. The title puts the Eagles one shy of the most state championships won by a single school and its coach, Rob McAuliffe, in a tie for the most state titles for a coach. Ò The goal is to win a state title,Ó Josh Barriere said. Ò That is the goal for us every year, and it is not going to change. It would be amazing to be on the team that wins the seventh state title, and my goal is to win out for my entire varsity career.Ó Ò We remind the younger players of the rings that we have and the glory that comes with that,Ó senior Hayden Guay said. Ò It is something that you dream about as a kid to win the state title. It is the top level of what you are working for.Ó On the third day of preseason camp, McAuliffe was CONTINUED ON PAGE 11
