Welcome to Central Park this evening for our JD Cymru North game against Flint Mountain. I’d like to extend a warm Denbigh welcome to all the Flint Mountain players, coaching team, Committee and supporters.
Last Saturday we were so unlucky to lose 1-0 in the last seconds of our JD Welsh Cup Quarter Final against Llanelli Town Dewi’s lads had played so well in an evenly matched game, and it was heartbreaking to lose to such a late goal after Denbigh had had so many chances during the match.
The game was a credit to both teams in that it was played in great spirit and was a first-class advert for Welsh football. It showed that there is little difference between the North and South Tier Two Leagues
Off the pitch, the game was yet another successful one hosted by ourselves We have held several big games over the last few seasons including Internationals, Cup Finals and important games involving our First Team such as the Boxing Day derbies with Ruthin.
It takes a great deal of organising for these events and it was pleasing to hear comments from the Llanelli Committee as to how welcoming we had been after their long journey and how impressed they were with our running of the day.
The crowd of 667 was the highest reported crowd in Welsh Domestic football over the weekend and I’d like to thank all of you who attended for your support. The presence of so many Juniors at the same bodes well for the future of the Club
We had a superb turnout of additional volunteers who stepped forward to offer their help on the day and without them, the day would not have been half as enjoyable for our usual volunteers who are at each game. The bar and kitchen were extremely busy throughout the afternoon. If you would like to offer your time to help as a volunteer at the Club please have a word with Iwan, Ollie or myself.
2025 is going to be an exciting time for the Club with our new community building due to be completed later in the year. The blockwork is now well in progress, and it will be great to see the building sealed over the next month or so The new facility will be an excellent building not just for our football club but also for the local community as our function room will be able to be used for a variety of uses such as evening & day classes and functions such as birthday and christenings Please bear us in mind if you are aware of people who may be interested in our helping them in this way.
This evening, our lads have a tough match against Flint Mountain who are a couple of places higher than us in the League I know Dewi, his management team and the squad are extremely grateful to you for all the support you give the team both here at Central Park and on their travels. Thank you for that. It really is appreciated.
Welcome back to Central Park for this evening’s JD Cymru North game against Flint Mountain.
It was brilliant to see such a large crowd here at Central Park last Saturday for our Welsh Cup Quarter Final against Llanelli Your support certainly boosted the lads, and it helps them enormously when we know there is such a strong local following.
I’m just so disappointed we fell at the final hurdle by conceding such a late goal. We could and should have so easily won the game as I felt we had so many chances which, on another day, would have been converted. To hit the woodwork three times and not score makes you think it’s not going to be your day. To say the lads were gutted at the end is an understatement They were devastated after all their hard work and endeavour.
We watched Llanelli in action on a big screen shortly before the game and knew what to expect They don’t shed goals easily and we knew our scoring chances would be limited due to their strong defensive record. During the first half, we had long spells where we were in control, whereas in the second they had much more possession and yet didn’t really threaten Aaron’s goal until the last ten minutes or so. That goal in the last play of the game was just overwhelming
So now, it’s back to League action and we have to refocus on pushing up the League and move away from the relegation battle that we’re on the edge of. With nine games left, we have four home games including tonight’s fixture
We know tonight’s game will be a tough one as Flint Mountain have done well this season after getting promoted from Tier 3 last year. We had a crazy 4-4 draw with them at Flint back in August when we were down 4-1 shortly into the second half despite Keelan Williams’ powerful free kick giving us our goal. After a poor first 45 minutes, it took Flint to score their fourth goal before we started playing. Owen Davies scored two, one being a penalty under enormous pressure on 88 minutes to equalise, and Nathan Brown was also a penalty scorer earlier in the second half.
Keelan Williams is looking to return to training shortly after his planned operation at the start of the Year It’s been a tough time for him, and we all look forward to welcoming him back to the squad.
Thanks again for all your support.
Denbigh Town 0-1 Llanelli Town
Denbigh Town’s greatest run in the JD Welsh Cup came to an end on Saturday as a stoppage time winner sent visitors Llanelli through.
A huge crowd of just short of 700 packed into Central Park to watch their side look to book a place in the Semi-Final, and with the game destined for a shoot-out a cruel blow saw the visitors through
Dewi Llion named one change to the side that drew with Llandudno a week previous as Aaron Jones returned to the XI in place of Elijah Beattie
In a tense affair throughout both sides had ample chance to take an early lead with Owen Davies’ effort met by the woodwork after dancing into the box on four minutes A minute later Llanelli had a first glimpse of goal when Theo Wharton’s shot from the edge of the box rose over the crossbar. The chances kept flowing in the opening ten minutes when a great ball forward from Jones found Davies, who made inroads into the box before laying it to Nathan Brown who couldn’t beat the keeper
The visitors felt they should have led on 14 minutes when they nicked the ball in midfield and put through Louis Caramella-Gerrard but he could only fire across goal
Iwan Roberts was next to try and find the net but his effort on 26 minutes was never finding the target whilst on the half hour mark Ethan Cann’s header flew wide
32 minutes in and Denbigh couldn’t believe their hard luck Applying the pressure a ball was swung in to the box and met by the head of Dan Flanders, but his effort smashed the upright Feeling some momentum Denbigh continued in search of the opener. Brown stood over a free-kick 30-yards out that was superbly stopped by goalkeeper Scott Coughlin
When you’ve already found the woodwork twice you feel it’s inevitable that your goal is going to come, but things went from bizarre to ridiculous when a minute before the break Brown unleashed an effort from 30-yards and smashed the crossbar
The visitors began the second period on top and applied plenty of pressure on Denbigh, but it was Town who carved out the first chance 11 minutes into the restart Davies latched onto a ball down the right before squaring to Iwan Roberts, but his first time effort blazed over.
The game became scrappy as neither side could find any sort of clear cut chance and penalties looked like an invevitability That was until a choatic final ten minutes.
Danny Williams tried from distance for the visitors which Jones did brilliantly to tip over the bar whilst as stoppage time ticked over Denbigh surely thought they’d won it. Breaking forward, Brown found Duffy with acres of space in the box but the forward couldn’t find the target, dragging it wide.
The difference in this game however came down to two chances. Town missing theirs and Llanelli making the most of it. On 96 minutes substitute Alex Giardelli smashed home a loose ball in the box to send the visitors through.

Denbigh Town Reserves suffered defeat at Central Park against the league leaders despite a spirited display.
Tom Salisbury’s second half effort wasn’t enough as the visitors bagged two each side of half time
Liam Nash handed debuts to two new signings with goalkeeper Jack Moorley taking his place between the sticks, whilst Sam Tate returned to LL16
In a slow start it took 15 minutes for the first real chance which the visitors took well as Flint crossed from the right channel to meet Charlie Cottis to finish from close range. Town responded with a chance of their own as Sean James delivered a free-kick which was cleared as far as Tate, but he couldn’t keep his effort down.
On 26 minutes Tate popped up again on the left of the box, wrapping his foot around a low effort that whizzed inches wide of the near post Two minutes later it was the visitors who had an effort of their own as Ben Richards tested Moorley from the edge of the box, but the 17-year old was equal to it.
With 34 minutes on the clock the visitors doubled their lead when Moorley denied an initial shot from range before Cottis followed in for his and Flint’s second Moments later Town came millimetres from pulling one back when a ball over the top found Tate who lifted the ball over the keeper from the edge of the box, which dropped on to the top of the bar
Within five minutes of the restart Town did halve the deficit Morgan Fricker played a superb ball forward for Salisbury who raced through before squeezing the ball past the keeper from a tight angle. Two minutes later after some nice buildup Denbigh were close to levelling when James’ free-kick flew inches over the bar
Flint were still a danger and on the hour mark after some nice build-up play found Luca Filby who 18-yards out hit the base of the right post Seven minutes later Moorley was called into action making a sensational double save to deny a third.
Heading into the final 20 minutes Town were pressing as much as they could, as James made his way into the box from the right but was denied by the keeper On 72 minutes however their hopes of a leveller were dashed as an effort struck the Town post before substitute Dylan Owen hammered in the rebound.
The game was put to bed when the referee blew for a penalty having adjudged Fricker to have handled it inside the box, and Cottis stepped up to secure a hatrick and the win
Denbigh Town Football Club was formed in 1880 and have been one of the longest-serving clubs in North Wales.
The early years saw the club play in a number of leagues including the North Wales Coast and Welsh Senior League, as well as time in the old Combination.
The club rose to fame in the 1920s when during the 1923/24 campaign, it won its first and only national honour, the Welsh Amateur Cup beating Lovell’s Athletic. The club went under different names throughout those years including United and Juniors before settling on Town in the 1950s
Following the Second World War Denbigh clinched numerous honours before the golden period of the 1970s that saw the club dominate the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) winning four successive league titles
After turning to the Clwyd Premier following the departure of successful manager John Trefor Roberts, the club shot back up the ladder upon the appointment of Bill Dawson who took the club from the Clwyd Premier to the Cymru Alliance in just four years
The club remained in the second tier for six years before returning to the Welsh Alliance but under Tim Dyer the club was promoted alongside a Cookson Cup success in 2007.
In 2013/14 the club went unbeaten in the Welsh Alliance earning a third promotion to tier two after their return to the division in 2010. In 2015/16 the club reached it’s second national final and the biggest game in club history when reaching the League Cup Final, losing to professional outfit TNS on national television.
Upon relegation from the Cymru Alliance in 2019, manager Dewi Llion rebuilt his squad and in 2023 earned a league and cup double to move up to the JD Cymru North, finishing 6th in their first season back

Established in 2009 by school friends looking to play competitive football together, Flint Mountain began in the now defunct Clwyd League
In 2011, the club joined the North East Wales League as founding members after the Clwyd League was restructured and replaced That season, despite finishing bottom of the table, they defied the odds by clinching the end of season Auxiliary Cup, the club's first piece of silverware
Over the next few years the club took on a nomadic nature, as they moved between grounds in Flint, Connah’s Quay, Rhydymwyn, Sychdyn and Northop Hall
In 2019, Flint Mountain were crowned champions of the North East Wales League in an unbeaten league season, whilst also securing three cups in a quadruple winning season. That success, coupled with a move to Pant Newydd in Halkyn, saw the newly renamed Halkyn & Flint Mountain promoted to the Welsh National League Division One, where they finished sixth in a debut season blighted by poor weather and the early curtailment of the season due to the Coronavirus pandemic
In 2021, following another league restructure, the club finished runners-up in the new North East Wales Premier Division and were promoted to the Ardal North West League. At the end of the season, the club returned to their home town of Flint after a ten year absence after agreeing to groundshare at the Essity Stadium, home of Flint Town United. The club also returned to its roots by changing its name back to Flint Mountain Football Club
After a fourth placed finish in our debut campaign, this was followed by finishing champions of the Ardal North West League in their second season at Tier 3, as well as winning the North East Wales Football Association (NEWFA) Challenge Cup for the first time

Denbigh Town Ladies returned to league action on Sunday at Central Park with the visit of Berriew.
Aled Davies’ side were looking to keep up with the leading back but faltered at the weekend where the mid-Wales ran out the winners.
Town went a goal down on 33 minutes and trailed at the break before Ceri Purvis returned to the scoresheet with a leveller just after the interval.
However, three unanswered goals for Berriew sealed the three points before a late consolation from Amber Hellon.
The Ladies will next be in action on Sunday March 23rd away to Welshpool.
