Board Room Chairman’s Notes Welcome to Central Park this evening for the JD Cymru North League game against Mold Alexandra.

I’d like to extend a warm Denbigh welcome to all the Mold Alex players, coaching team, Commi ee and supporters.

Whilst it’s another big JD Cymru North Tier 2 league game here tonight, next week we welcome the Cymru Under 16s team to Central Park for two of their Victory Shield Interna onals. We are so proud to once again be hos ng Interna onals here at Central Park – something we would have thought unthinkable just a couple of years ago.

The Victory Shield compe on involves the Na ons of Cymru, Scotland , Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland playing each other at Under 16 boys level.

All the countries will play each other over the next week on a league basis with the winner being the country with the most points.

We will be hos ng the following games : Monday 6th November – Cymru v Northern Ireland – Kick off 6.00pm Wednesday 8th November – Cymru v Republic of Ireland – Kick off 6.00pm Admission for both games is £5 per game which is payable on the gate by Cash or Contactless. Children Under the age of 16 will have free admission.

All this goes in tandem for our plans to hold Euro Under 19 Interna onals here at Central Park in 2026 when Wales is the host na on for that event.

It shows how far we as a Club have progressed on and off the field. More and more volunteers have joined our ranks on and off the pitch as coaches, team helpers and match day stewards. It is so rewarding, and we have been recognised for our efforts by being nominated along with other Denbighshire Sports Clubs for the Denbighshire Sports Club of the Year. We have been invited as a Club to a end the Denbighshire Leisure Ac ve Communi es Awards Night at the Rhyl Pavilion later this month to see if we have won the Award.

It’s certainly an exci ng me to be involved with the Club and if you would like to become part of the team of volunteers who help out at the Club on match days and behind the scenes, then please have a word with myself or Iwan.

Managers Office Manager’s Notes Welcome to Central Park for this evening’s JD Cymru North League game against Mold Alexandra.

It’s another tough test for us as Mold stand just one place above us in the League and three points separate us. We haven’t played each other since Mold were in Tier 3 with us in season 2021-22, when we drew 1-1 here at Central Park before losing 4-1 at Mold later in that season. Mold were promoted that season to the JD Cymru North with us following them at the end of last season.

Last weekend against Gresford we claimed the three points with a very late strike from Tom Weir. It was a performance that we as management team were really happy with, as we dominated possession throughout the game . We dictated the play and just allowed Gresford a few chances and we were thankful to Aaron Jones for pulling off a couple of great saves.

Tom has come on leaps and bounds since joining us in the summer. His sharpness has improved as has his hold up play and he’s coming in now with some vital goals. Ma y Worrall and him are forming a good partnership up front as they’re both strong powerful forwards.

Nathan Brown is in amongst the leading league scorers with seven so far and with Craig Pritchard and Paul Fleming both having hit the net three mes it’s so good to see goals coming from all areas of the pitch.

Last week we welcomed Morgan Thomas-Sadler back to the star ng squad. Morgan had an horrific leg injury at the start of the season at Bangor and he’s made rapid progress thankfully and everyone is glad to see him back and pushing to get back into the star ng line up.

We’re all behind our full back Harry Lockley and wish him well a er his kidney transplant a few weeks ago. Harry a ended one of our Reserves home games just a week a er his opera on and things looked to be going well for him. He suffered a slight setback last weekend and had to return to hospital, but having spoken to him a couple of days ago he is now home and hoping to be at this evening’s game.

Both Billy Holmes and Keiron Roberts are now back to full fitness and made solid appearances at Gresford. Dan Parry-Jones missed the Flint Cup game with a foot injury but returned last weekend and so, bar for Harry we now have a fit squad. The only omission from the squad tonight is Ryan Kershaw who is serving the last match of his league suspension.

We know Mold Alex will provide s ff opposi on. They’re on an impressive run of winning games, having not lost since the end of August to league leaders Holywell. Our concentra on will be paramount. and we look for your support to help us over the line to get the three points Enjoy the game.

STOPPAGE TIME DELIGHT FOR TOWN GRESFORD ATHLETIC 1—2 DENBIGH TOWN FC Tom Weir’s 93rd-minute strike sent Town into ecstasy as Dewi Llion’s side came from behind to win at Gresford.

Weir’s effort complimented a Nathan Brown penalty despite Haci Ozlu’s opener for the home side and denied a first draw for Denbigh in over a year.

Dewi Llion made three changes to the side that lost to Flint in the Welsh Cup two weeks ago with Craig Pritchard, Dan Parry-Jones and Matthew Worrall coming into the XI whilst Rhys Lloyd and Morgan Thomas-Sadler were elevated to the bench.

The match kicked-off at the Rock and took seven minutes for the first sight of goal when Brown’s corner met the head of Ben Lockley but he couldn’t steer the ball on target.

Denbigh began brightly and on 12 minutes had another chance when Brown was threaded through before being pushed wide, he eventually found a way to cross for an onrushing Lock but his volley ballooned over the bar.

Despite the early pressure, it was the home side who took the lead after 16 minutes.

A cross from deep on the right-hand side by Matthew Chaplin met the head of Ozlu who connected well and the ball looped into the top corner.

Though Gresford took the lead Town never waivered and continued to put pressure on the Colliers goal, with Weir and Worrall both testing Michael Jones.

Just after the half-hour mark Gresford should have doubled their advantage as a low ball across the box found Simon Smith who with the freedom of the box blazed over.

Denbigh thought they’d drawn level on 37 minutes when Worrall was played through, he rounded the keeper before finishing but the flag had been raised for offside.

Minutes before the break Town were literally handed a lifeline when Pritchard’s shot from the edge of the box was blocked by a hand and a penalty was awarded. Brown stepped up and cooly dispatched it to the goalkeeper’s left low into the corner.

Half-Time: Gresford Athletic 1-1 Denbigh Town It was more of the same in the second half with Denbigh in control of the game and had the majority of possession. Weir had the first sight of goal after the restart when he glided forward before hammering the ball over the bar from the left.

On 66 minutes Denbigh had a huge chance when Lock pounced on a mistake and ran through on goal, but his effort one-on-one was smartly saved by Jones. Lock and Jones met again six minutes later when he won it in midfield before again being denied after skipping past three defenders.

As the visitors turned the screw Worrall saw a shot from range deflect out for a corner before substitute Paul Fleming was fed down the left but his tame effort was gathered.

In the final ten minutes the game could have gone either way in a back-and-forth affair, Weir was again denied on 85 minutes after breaking forward and Gresford had the ball in the net via Chaplin but the flag was raised.

Into stoppage time with both sides looking for the win, up stepped Weir. A thorn in the side of his former club all afternoon he curled an effort into the top right corner from the edge of the box to send the bench and fans in attendance into raptures.

A quick triple change was made in stoppage time including 16-year-old Rhys Lloyd who thought he was through on goal but the flag was raised, and Denbigh now had to hold on.

Hold on they did, with that strike from Weir meaning the 371 days since the last Denbigh draw was extended for at least another week whilst adding a buffer between themselves in 5th and those currently occupying mid-table.

Denbigh next face 4th placed Mold Alexandra at Central Park on Friday in what is bound to be a close encounter.

TOWN RETURN HOME FOR CRUCIAL CLASH Preview—Denbigh Town V Mold Alexander Town come into this one on the back of a superb 2-1 away win against Gresford Athletic.

Nathan Brown levelled the score from the penalty spot just before the break and going into the dying embers it looked like Denbigh were to record a rare draw. However, Tom Weir stepped up running half the length of the field before smashing the ball home to secure the points.

It was a welcome return to winning having crashed out of the JD Welsh Cup two weeks beforehand in our last home match, with Flint the victors. Our last home match in the Cymru North saw Dewi Llion’s side dismantle Llanidloes 6-2.

Mold Alexandra sit 4th in the table and have won each of their last nine matches in all competitions. Last time out they took on Llandudno where Jake Roberts’ goal proved to be the difference. They advanced via penalties in the Welsh Cup beforehand almost slipping up to Ardal North-West side Nantlle Vale. Some highlights of the current run include a 5-1 win over Porthmadog, 3-2 victory over leaders Holywell and a 13-1 demolition of Mongomery Town in the Welsh Cup. This will be the first meeting between the two clubs since December 2021 as Mold went on to secure the league title. The Alex won the last meeting 4-1 at Alyn Park whilst the earlier match at Central Park ended 1-1. Our last match in the JD Cymru North / Cymru Alliance ended with a 3-1 Denbigh win in Mold in February 2017, with goals from Jake Eyre, Alan Bull and Craig Pritchard.

Denbigh have been playing sides based in Mold since the very beginning, and though Alex weren’t formed until 1929, Denbigh’s first-ever league match came against Mold in October 1890 in Denbigh. The game ended 2-1 to Mold whilst the return match was won by the visiting Town. We also faced another two Mold-based sides, the Mold Reserves and Mold Red Stars in April 1891 as Town picked up their first honour, the St Asaph Challenge Cup.

Management Manager—Dewi Llion— After 4 years as Academy Director and First Team Coach at Bala Town, Dewi joined Denbigh in 2016 to assist Gareth Thomas and then Eddie Maurice-Jones, before taking the helm alongside Matty Jones as joint manager for the season 2018-2019. Dewi was appointed sole first team manager for the season 2019-2020 and led the team to runners up spot in the Lockstock Welsh Alliance League 1. Dewi is both a UEFA A Senior coach and Youth A Licensed coach aswell as holding a BSc in Sport Science & Football Assistant Manager—Kristian Pierce—KP’s playing career has been cut short after several serious injuries and he retired from the game after season 2021/22. He wants to put something back into the game and at our Club where he had such a successful playing career. Had spells at Rhyl & Porthmadog aswell as playing in Europe with Bala Town. He joins us as a coach where his enthusiasm and knowledge as a player will be such a strength for our squad.

Coach—Brett Jones—Brett rejoins the club having previously worked at the club alongside Elfed Lloyd, following a 4 year spell at Everton Ladies U21s. He teams up alongside Dewi Llion for the second time having also worked at Bala Town FC Academy together.

Coach—Mathew Jones—An FAW A Licence coaching certificate holder, Matty joins us now to concentrate fully on coaching after spells at management with Conwy, Llandudno, Rhyl and ourselves a few seasons ago. He has also coached the Welsh Cymru Cup team and is highly respected coach across the North Wales football scene.

Players Goalkeeper - Aaron Jones - Aaron signs following a short spell at Llanelwy Athletic. His previous Clubs are Wrexham, Everton, TNS & Flint as well as having Welsh Youth Cups. A gifted goalkeeper who is comfortable with the ball by his feet

Defender— Sion Jones - Sion is one of our promising youngsters who has been involved with the Junior Teams for many years. He joined Rhyl FC and was with their Youth teams until the start of 2018 when he moved to Denbigh. A player who is gaining in experience with every game he plays Sion is a right sided player who has broken into the first team squad through hard work and commitment, and he has a bright future ahead of him.

Defender—Dan Parry Jones—19 year old Dan joins us from Colwyn Bay where he made his debut in January 2022 having previously been with Connahs Quays Nomads Development Team. He captained Welsh Colleges last season and his maturity improves with every game. A highly versatile youngster he is capable of playing in a number of positions.

Defender - Billy Holmes - Local lad Billy is a fan’s favourite with his long pacy runs with the ball at his feet. A great left footer who plays in defence or midfield he has come through the ranks at Denbigh having played for the Youth team and Reserves before breaking into the first team.

He made his mark last season as a central defender being big, strong and quick . As a left footer he gives the team that added balance within the set up.

Defender—Craig Rogers—A ball playing centre half who can also operate at left back. Craig returns to the Club after playing under Gareth Thomas here a few seasons ago. Craig brings with him a lot of experience from playing for Airbus Uk, Holywell Town , Aberystwyth & Warrington aswell as spells playing abroad in Norway, Iceland and USA.

Defender—Harry Lockley—Harry joins us with his twin brother Ben from Conwy Borough. He was outstanding in the two friendlies we had against them in 2021. Harry can operate in a variety of positions which will bring extra depth and competition to the squad. Comes highly recommended by his former manager Matty Jones (now our coach) and played over 20 games in the Cymru North last season.

Defender—Ben Lockley—Ben joins us from Conwy Borough along with his twin brother Harry.

He played over 20 games in season 2021/22 for Conwy Borough in a variety of roles. Comes highly recommended by Matty Jones our coach who was his manager at Conwy.

Defender —Morgan Thomas Sandler—A youngster with bags of potential, Morgan was on the books of Notts Forest for several years until a string of injuries hampered his career. He joins us from Colwyn Bay’s youth set up where he drew the attention of other clubs as a tough tackling, skilful midfielder with a great eye for goal.

Midfielder - Ryan Kershaw - Ryan joins us from Cefn Albion and has European pedigree and JD Cymru Premier experience having also played with TNS & Newtown. A tough tackling strong midfielder with an eye for a good ball and great energy levels he has a major part to play in the squad

Midfielder —Oliver Hanson— Olly was with the Bala Academy with Dewi Llion as his manager and he has since played with Rhyl Fc and NFA FC. S ll only 18, he scored for us in a friendly but shortly a erwards broke his ankle, so he’ll be out for a few weeks yet. A talented youngster and we look forward to ge ng home back to full fitness.

Midfielder - Jason Foulkes - A very versatile player who can play ion a number of positions. A tough tackler and strong player he has been a key player with St Asaph for the few seasons. A top class cricketer who has played for Wales recently and who won't be available fully until the cricket season is over .

Midfielder - Keiron Roberts - Keiron is a quality central midfielder who joined us in August 2020 from Greenfield. He has also played for Rhydymwyn when they were in the Cymru Alliance. A tenacious midfielder who has settled in well, he has a lot of quality on the ball.

Midfielder - Josh Lock - Midfielder Josh Lock joined Denbigh Town on loan from Cymru Premier champions The New Saints, in August 2023. A skilful youngster with a great reading of the game and the ability to play some key passes.

Midfielder - Paul Fleming - Captain - Paul joined us from St Asaph FC in 2019 where he has been for a few seasons. He is an energetic midfield player who gives us a physical presence in both penalty boxes. The 34 year old also has a knack of scoring important goals and is a strong addition to the squad. Striker - Nathan Brown—Right winger 23 year old Nathan will bring pace and quality to our team aswell as having a great delivery from set pieces . He joins us from Airbus UK and prior to that he was with Flint Town Utd and Chester City.

Striker - Craig Pritchard—Craig is a player who was part of our 2017/18 team which reached second place in the Cymru Alliance Tier 2 League and was named Player of the Season that year. A Welsh International at Futsal, Craig has had his injuries and is now fully recovered. He has impressed everyone in training and has shown that he has lost none of his skill and awareness on the ball .

Striker - Jake Walker - Jake has played previously for Llannefydd in the Clwyd League and St Asaph in the Welsh Alliance and has been with Denbigh since 2018. A natural goal scorer who can score with either foot or with his head he was the leading goalscorer in the Welsh Alliance League Div 1 last season with 23 goals from 17 games. He also scored 14 cup goals and is a proven marksman. Was awarded the Managers Player of the Season award in 2019/20 not only for his goals but for his all round play and attitude within the team.

A striker—Tom Weir—Noted goalscorer Tom joins us from Bow FC having played with our Juniors in his younger days. His past Clubs include Connah's Quay Nomads and Flint Town Utd. A tough bustling centre forward he is a player Dewi Llion has been looking to sign for some time.

Striker—Levant Gundogan—20 year old Levant joins us after spending time in his younger days with Connahs Quay Nomads and Man Utd's youth academy. He is also a Welsh International having played at Under 15s and 16s level. A player of great potential who took a break from football last season he has a goal scoring pedigree as a striker.

Striker—Matthew Worrall— Matty joins us for the second time as he was part of our 2017/18 team where he was the scorer of some vital goals. A proven goal scorer, he then moved onto Rhyl, Gresford and lastly Llay Welfare before re- joining us in Jan 2023.

Striker—Dan Clarke - Talented local lad Dan joined the Club after completing his Chester City Scholarship Programme in 2019. After his first season in senior football Dan adapted really well to the game putting in some first class performances and scoring some top class goals.

Dan has the ability to play at a higher level if he continues to develop as he has done over the last 12 months, and has a bright future ahead of him in the game.

Brief History

Denbigh Town Football Club was formed in 1880 and has remained one of the most popular and highly respected Clubs in North Wales ever since. One of the Club’s finest achievements came in 1924 when they won both the Welsh Amateur Cup and the North Wales Coast Amateur Cup.

A number of minor successes ensued in the subsequent decades until the Club hit a purple patch in the 1970s when they won the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) Division One Championship four times and the League Cup on five occasions. Town also landed the North Wales Amateur Cup in 1970 and the North Wales Amateur Cup in 1972. The manager through most of this golden period was John Trevor Roberts who remains one of Denbigh Town’s most legendary figures.

After the Club left the Wrexham Area League at the turn of the 1980s and joined the Clwyd League many trophy less years followed. The sleeping giant did not awaken until the 1991/1992 season when Liverpudlian duo Bill Dawson and Rook Cook-Hannah took over the reins at the Club.

In their first season the Club won promotion to the Premier Division, but the biggest highlight was an unforgettable 1-0 North Wales Challenge Cup Victory over the 4th placed HFS Loans League semiprofessionals of Caernarfon Town before an ecstatic crowd at Central Park.

After two seasons in the Clwyd Premier, the Club was promoted to the Fitlock Welsh Alliance League in 1994/95. After finishing 4th in their first season Denbigh Town followed up in style by landing the League Championship and Cookson Cup double, the Club’s finest achievement for almost 20 years.

The Club joined the Cymru Alliance in 1996/97 and enjoyed several good seasons at that level.

Denbigh joined the Welsh Alliance Leagie for 2002/2003 and finished 3rd, reached the semi-final of the Barritt Cup and won the Alves Cup with Roy Cook-Hannah at the helm. Cook- Hannah resigned in December 2003 and Clwyd Williams & Nick Hailes were installed as joint-managers. The team finished the season in 12th position.

In May 2004 Tim Dyer was appointed manager and in 2005/2006 he guided the team to the Barritt Cup and Cookson Cup double, runners up in the Welsh Alliance League and also finalists in the North Wales Coast FA Challenge Cup. The Club also won the Welsh Alliance Fair Play League for 2005/2006 & 2006/2007. In 2007 Denbigh Town were crowned Welsh Alliance League Champions and Cookson Cup winners.

After Tim Dyer stepped down at the end of the 2008/2009 season Steve Jones was appointed manager with Dean Martin as his assistant. Under the new regime the team finished 10th in the 2009/2010 Cymru Alliance League. Unfortunately, due to the Welsh Premier Super 12, six clubs were relegated from the Welsh Premier and the 3 feeder leagues all promoted a club to the Cymru Alliance.

This meant only the top 7 survived in the Cymru Alliance and so Denbigh Town were relegated to the Welsh Alliance League. Jones and his assistant Martin resigned in May 2010.

Brief History continued John James and Andy Lewis were appointed manager and coach for the 2010/2011 season.

Despite relegation the Club started ground development with hard standing area placed all around the perimeter of the ground and floodlights were installed in April 2012.

In 2012/2013 ex-player and captain Richard Williams- Cooke was appointed manager. In his first season Cookie took the club to runners up position in the Welsh Alliance League. The following season the Club won the league, remaining unbeaten throughout the whole league campaign and also won the Mawddach Cup. The Club were promoted to the Cymru Alliance – the Tier 2 level of Welsh football

Cookie resigned in June 2014 due to work and family commitments. A joint management team of Dave Taylor and Terry Ingram were appointed in his place, but they parted company with club a few months later.

In September 2014 the Club appointed Elfed Lloyd and 1st team Captain Max Peate as caretaker managers for the rest of that season.

Gareth Thomas (Perry) was appointed manager on 21st May 2015, and he led the Club to 3rd position in the Cymru Alliance in season 2015/2016. In the same season Perry also took the Club to the Word Cup Final losing 2-0 to treble winners The New Saints (TNS).

However, in November 2016 the Club parted company with Perry and Eddie Maurice Jones was appointed manager Maurice-Jones took the Club to its highest ever finish in the Cymru Alliance – that of 2nd in the season 2017/2018. However, at the end of that season Maurice-Jones moved to become manager of Rhyl and many of the players followed him.

New joint managers Dewi Llion Jones & Matty Jones had the task of forming a team with new players with only a few weeks left before the start of the season. Despite a valiant effort by the managers and their new team the Club fell into the relegation zone on the last day of the season 2018/2019 and were relegated to the Welsh Alliance.

Matty Jones left the joint managership role in April 2019 and Dewi Llion Jones was appointed sole manager for the season 2019/2020. He appointed former Town player Owain Roberts as his coach. A strong season followed but the Covid 19 pandemic meant the season was cut short and Denbigh were appointed runners up in the league to Holyhead Hotspurs.

The Welsh Alliance League finished in 2019/2020 and Denbigh Town were placed in the new Lock Stock Ardal North West League for the season 2021/22.

The club narrowly missed out on the promotion spots in the season 2021/2022 finishing third.

History Mold Alexandra adopted its name and blue and white kit colours in 1929, a report at the me sugges ng a decision to play matches on or very near the present ground of ‘Alyn Park’. The Alex joined the Welsh Na onal League, Wrexham Area (WNL) in 1947. Alex player Joe Allen played for the Wales na onal team during this period.

In 1979 a grand dinner celebrated the club’s fi ieth year, with guest Joe Mercer. In an exci ng 1980’s period for the Alex they won two League Championships, a League Cup and two regional trophies. These successes resulted in Mold Alex being invited to join the newly created Cymru Alliance league for season 1990-91. This meant playing in the top division for north and mid Wales’ compe ve football.

In 1992 a first na on-wide league was formed (‘the League of Wales’) with Mold Alex being delighted to become one of its founder members. The Alex enjoyed compe on in the League of Wales for three seasons, more distant opponents including Inter Cardiff, Barry Town, Llanelli and Ebbw Vale.

In 1995 Mold Alex played once more in the Cymru Alliance, but following relega on a er three seasons the club had to fight for admission back to the Welsh Na onal League. The then rules dictated that of the two teams looking to rejoin the WNL there would only be a place for one of them. The Alex refused to join a different league system choosing to play in a division of mainly WNL reserve teams. This gamble played off and the Alex was promoted up to the renamed WNL Premier Division at the end of one season.

Between 2002 and 2010 the club had two successful spells in the Cymru Alliance, but in 2010 an FAW change to the number of clubs in the League of Wales also affected the size of the Cymru Alliance. A restructuring drama resulted in Mold Alex in thirteenth place losing its status as a Cymru Alliance member of seventeen clubs.

In 2014 Mold was promoted once more up to the Cymru Alliance a er winning the Championship of the WNL Premier Division on a cliff hanging and thrilling final day of the season. The following season the first team won the President’s Cup and North East Wales Cup. In 2019 The Alex was successful in reaching the final of the Premier Division Cup. Mold Alex reserve teams have been very successful in recent years, winning their Division Championship Cup on three occasions and a Division Cup. A Mold Alex Reserves and Colts team won their Championship Division Cup in 2015.

Children’s football is provided at Mold Alex from the age of six, managed by a large team of volunteers.

Several match trophies have been won by the older football groups.

The club’s volunteers host the annual Mold bonfire and firework display for chari es. In the summer annual six a side veteran men’s and women’s compe ons have also supported good causes as has the club’s annual Christmas Appeal.

With the return of football and restructuring of the Wales’ football system from 2021, the Alex reserve team has competed well amongst teams represen ng high ranking clubs and was runner up in the final 2022 Horace Wynne Cup compe on. Supported by the Alex strong

management and coaching team and against very compe ve opposi on last season, the Alex first team became Champions of the Lock Stock Ardal North West League, FAW Trophy winners and were runners up in the Ardal Northern League Cup final.
