THE CHAIRMAN Welcome to Central Park this evening for tonight’s JD Cymru North game against Airbus UK Broughton.

I’d like to extend a warm Denbigh welcome to all the Airbus players, coaching team, Committee and supporters.

Work on our steel structure continues to progress. Most of the steel framework has now been completed and over the next two weeks our contractors are looking to start on the roof of our new building. The balcony has proved to be a bit more intricate of a project than we first envisaged, and it has taken a bit longer than we planned to get it all correct. However, a couple of weeks extra on a structure that will be here for many years to come is well worth doing.

Earlier this week we welcomed four UEFA delegates to the ground together with six officials from the FAW. The delegates were from Spain, France, Austria & Switzerland. They were here to see our plans for the UEFA Under 19s Euros to be held here in June 2026 and make sure all the work we are doing matches their requirements We also invited the Chief Executive of Denbighshire County Council, Graham Boase, and our local County Councillor and the Chairman of Denbigh High School Governors, Mark Young, to the meeting. We wished to demonstrate to the UEFA delegates how important the 2026 tournament is to the local area and how Denbighshire County Council are giving us their full support behind the event. Their presence and input to the meeting was invaluable and we are grateful to their taking time out of their busy diaries to attend.

We had a good idea of some of the requirements that were needed from a meeting a fortnight ago with a Pitch & Ground Regulations UEFA delegate and this week’s meeting advised us of additional criteria. They have asked us to arrange for a TV gantry to be built on the half way line with facilities for commentators below where the cameras are situated. They also look for us to have a gantry for TV cameras behind both goals and also at ground level.

We may have to situate the press and media near the TV gantry by the dugouts as the delegates maintain that our existing media seats have a restricted view of the corner flags on the Clubhouse side of the ground. We are looking at having two fifty seater stands on that side of the ground and this could well accommodate the press and media. We were looking to have seats in each dugout for 16 people, but UEFA advise us they now require 20 seats.

The delegates will let us have a full report of their findings shortly and they will visit us again in a years time to see the work we have done and how it fits with their criteria.

This weekend is Remembrance Weekend as we pause to remember the servicemen and women people who have given their lives in conflict. There will be a minute’s silence before kick off and I trust this will be well observed. Our Media Officer Ollie Beech has written an excellent piece within this programme on Denbigh Town players who lost their lives at war. Thanks for this Ollie.

This evening, we also welcome the Denbighshire Stroke Prevention team and Vale of Clwyd Mind to the ground with their bus called Doris. Their aim is to address health issues and can offer blood pressure checks , pulse checks and signpost people with any health concerns to other health services. If you have a moment spare them a second for a quick chat.

THE GAFFER Welcome back to Central Park for this evening’s JD Cymru North game against league leaders Airbus UK Broughton.

Our first game this season was away to Airbus and we had a 7-0 drubbing from them. They looked a class outfit that day and have continued to impress with them having been leaders since that first day of the season. It was a difficult day, and it didn’t help with my being suspended for the game and having to watch from the sidelines unable to influence the game.

Despite being relegated from the Cymru Premier the season before last, their manager Mark Allen and his squad want a swift return to the top flight of Welsh football.

Since then, we have improved so much as a team and up until last weekend’s loss to Guilsfield had been on a five match unbeaten run. We lost to a last minute injury time goal last week and this is an area of concern to us as a coaching team. It’s the third time this season this has happened with us losing at Mold in a similar fashion and then allowing Mold to equalise here at Central Park in early October. We really need to be seeing out games rather than putting ourselves under undue pressure at late stages of the match.

All our recent games have been high scoring ones with 30 goals in just the last four matches.

Going forward we are a real threat but obviously conceding too many goals is a concern. It’s an area we have worked on in our training sessions this week and each player knows they have a contribution to make in all areas of the park . Defensive mistakes have proved costly at vital times in games and a lot of this is down to concentration and we’re looking to eradicate these errors as we move forward.

Nathan Brown and Owen Davies are both on nine league goals each and Owen scored two last week with his second being a cracker for us to go 3-2 up just after half time. He took his opportunity like a true striker - one touch to control the ball and one to let fly a screamer from outside the penalty area giving their keeper no chance. Keelan Williams and Sam Duffy are both on four league goals each with Sam also scoring at Guilsfield thanks to a sublime assist from Owen.

We’re able to analyse each game after it’s been played thanks to the Veo camera that the Club have invested in. You may have noticed camera as it is situated between the home duggouts each game and is able to follow the ball when its play thanks to the wonders of modern science.

It’s such a valuable tool for us to use and we forward the key points we want to learn from to all the squad shortly after a game has finished. Then in training we are able to work on these areas.

There is no doubt this evening’s game is going to be a tough one. We’ve trained well in the week and are ready for the challenge. Thanks for your support. It is really appreciated by all the playing squad who enjoy playing on Central Park under the lights.

Davies intercepted the ball on the edge of the box before bullying his way through and launching a rocket of an effort from outside the box.

Despite the good response Denbigh were pegged back.

In search of a leveller the home side rallied and a smart cross from the left found Hyne inside the box with space to slam home.

In an open affair either side could have got the next one, with 13 to play Davies did well on the right before finding Brown on the edge of the box but he dragged his shot wide. Callum Graybrook did the same inside the Denbigh box with five left in a nervy ending.

Williams had a shot gathered by the keeper following a Brown free kick that struck the wall which proved to be Town’s final chance of the game, as Guilsfield pushed into stoppage time.

Six minutes into stoppage time a Guilsfield free kick was played short and cleared for a throw, the long looping toss found the box and it was Sean Jones who got the crucial touch to win it for the home side.

Amongst those remembered are three fallen soldiers who departed for the frontline as Denbigh Town players.

John Price Thomas - Aged 19 was killed in the trenches on January 25th 1915.

A memorial is situated at Denbigh Post Office and letter from fellow soldier Evan Lake was published in the Denbighshire Free Press a month later, Lake survived the war before he died in Ruthin in 1967 aged 71.

Thomas Albert Davies - Aged 36 was killed in action in shortly before the end of the war on September 18th 1918. Capped for Wales, Davies was regarded as one of the best defenders ever produced in Denbigh. He represented the Royal Welch Fusiliers in a match against Norwich City in 1917. and was capped for Wales Amateurs.

Eddie Williams - Aged 21 was killed in action on July 16th 1916 a year after departing for the front. A former defender for the club who was shot in the trenches serving with the North Wales ‘Pals’.

BRIEF HISTORY: DENBIGH TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB Denbigh Town Football Club was formed in 1880 and have been one of the longest-serving clubs in North Wales.

The early years saw the club play in a number of leagues including the North Wales Coast and Welsh Senior League, as well as time in the old Combination.

The club rose to fame in the 1920s when during the 1923/24 campaign, it won its first and only national honour, the Welsh Amateur Cup beating Lovell’s Athletic. The club went under different names throughout those years including United and Juniors before settling on Town in the 1950s.

Following the Second World War Denbigh clinched numerous honours before the golden period of the 1970s that saw the club dominate the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) winning four successive league titles.

After turning to the Clwyd Premier following the departure of successful manager John Trefor Roberts, the club shot back up the ladder upon the appointment of Bill Dawson who took the club from the Clwyd Premier to the Cymru Alliance in just four years.

The club remained in the second tier for six years before returning to the Welsh Alliance but under Tim Dyer the club was promoted alongside a Cookson Cup success in 2007.

In 2013/14 the club went unbeaten in the Welsh Alliance earning a third promotion to tier two after their return to the division in 2010. In 2015/16 the club reached it’s second national final and the biggest game in club history when reaching the League Cup Final, losing to professional outfit TNS on national television.

Upon relegation from the Cymru Alliance in 2019, manager Dewi Llion rebuilt his squad and in 2023 earned a league and cup double to move up to the JD Cymru North, finishing 6th in their first season back.

THE OPPOSITION AIRBUS UK BROUGHTON Ground: The Airfield Capacity: 1,600 (580 seats) Nickname: The Wingmakers Founded: 1946 2023/24: 3rd Manager: Mark Allen Formed in 1946, the club has known several different names as the ownership of the nearby factory has changed over the years. Originally called Vickers-Armstrong, it has variously been named de Havillands, Hawker Siddeley, British Aerospace, and BAE Systems.

The club's early years were spent in the Chester & District League and the Wrexham area leagues. The club won the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) Division Two title during the 1991–92 season, when they won 28 of their 34 matches and scored 130 goals to finish 19 points ahead of their nearest rival.

They then spent four years making steady improvements in their position in the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) Division One before being promoted to the Welsh National League Premier Division at the end of the 1995–96 season when they were runners-up in Division One. They spent four years in the Premier Division before winning promotion to the Cymru Alliance at the end of the 1999–00 season, when they won 21 of their 30 matches.

To coincide with this promotion the club changed its name to Airbus UK.

Once again they spent four seasons in their new league, successively finishing in 11th, 8th, and 5th positions before winning the league title by 19 points in 2003–04 to earn promotion to the top level of Welsh domestic football for the first time. Airbus' first season in the Premier League was a torrid time, with the team acquiring only 21 points in the first 32 matches and being in nextto-last position with only a few matches remaining. Their manager, Rob Lythe, who had led them to promotion, resigned in February 2005, citing "not having enough time" to do the job. The Wingmakers eventually avoided relegation in their debut season

Airbus made a promising start to their second season in the WPL, reaching the semi-final of the League Cup eventually losing out to TNS over two legs. For the start of the 2007–08 season, the club changed its name once more, adding the village name to become "Airbus UK Broughton". Owing to UEFA's rules over sponsorship, when competing in European competition the club is known as "AUK Broughton". During their time in the Cymru Premier, Airbus UK Broughton went from relegation strugglers to a club that challenged regularly for honours. They qualified for Europe for the first time in 2013 as Cymru Premier runners-up, repeating the feat the following season and appearing in the Europa League for a third consecutive time as third-place finishers in 2015. In May 2016 the club reached the Welsh Cup final for the first time, losing 2–0 to The New Saints at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground. The club yoyo’d between the top flight and second tier and were most recently relegated in 2022/23 and have remained in the JD Cymru North since.

WE’VE MET BEFORE Denbigh Town and Airbus UK Broughton have competed against one another a fair few times in the past three decades. Here we look back at our first meeting of this campaign and the last clash we had at Central Park.

Denbigh Town suffered their worst opening day defeat in 114 years earlier this term as Airbus smashed home seven at the Airfield.

The last meeting between Town and Airbus at Central Park came in September 2023 where the unbeaten league leaders suffered their first defeat.

Things started badly going a goal behind on nine minutes before six further unanswered scores saw Town off to a horrific start to the campaign.

Played in the baking end of summer heat it took until the second half for the deadlock to be broken, with Matthew Worrall netting before Paul Fleming secured the points with three minutes to spare.

It was the perfect start for the Wingmakers who went on to remain unbeaten in the league for two months.

It ensured three wins on the spin for Denbigh.

STROKE PREVENTION AND VALE OF CLWYD MIND VISIT CENTRAL PARK Denbigh Town Football Club are pleased to be welcoming some special guests to Central Park on Friday night.

Club partners Vale of Clwyd Mind and the Stroke Prevention Team will be on-site at the ground ahead of the JD Cymru North clash with Airbus UK Broughton.

Organised with Denbighshire Cluster, who aim to bring together vital services in health, social care and the third sector, both will be on hand pre-match to offer basic health checks including blood pressure, pulse check and signposting to other services including smoking.

Meanwhile, Vale of Clwyd Mind’s D.O.R.I.S bus (Denbighshire Outreach Rural Information Service) will be in attendance.

Ad VOCM recognises that there has been a rise in self-harm, eating disorders and stress and depression among its outlying countryside areas. Vale of Clwyd Mind exists to both prevent mental ill health and to support people who develop problems and helps them to move on. The service operates throughout rural areas of the county and is free for anyone to speak to and gain advice for themselves or their loved ones.

The charity has already partnered with the club previously with the logo appearing on the sleeves free of charge on our men’s First Team and Reserves shirts, whilst their logo also takes pride of place on the brand new training shirts for the second string side.

DENBIGH TOWN LADIES Denbigh Town Ladies’ unbeaten league start came to an end last weekend in a trip to Berriew.

Gemma Jones’ 12th minute strike was enough for the home side to sink Town in a 1-0 loss at the Recreation Ground.

It came a week after another long haul trip, this time to Llanystumdwy in the Betty Pickering Cup where Ellen Lawson’s side again fell to a 10 defeat.

The side return to the Group Stage of the Betty Pickering Cup this weekend with another trip, this time to Caernarfon who Town overcame 3-1 in the initial fixture at Central Park back in September.

DENBIGH TOWN RESERVES Denbigh Town Reserves are back at Central Park tomorrow with a derby against St Asaph.

It’ll be the second meeting between the two sides in the space of a couple of weeks having visited Roe Plas Meadow in October. Goals from Morgan Fricker, Ianto Jones, Joe Mead and Serhad Kanli secured the 4-1 win.

Last week the side were in action at Airbus where Town fell to a 2-0 defeat at the Airfield.

Three new faces have joined in recent weeks with Sam Luke already making three appearances so far. Meanwhile Joe Mead is another new face who has made two appearances, scoring in the victory over St Asaph within a minute of coming on.

Finally Bradley Jones joins the club from Lock Stock Ardal North-West side Llannefydd having made five appearances for the third tier side this season.
