As a second career and experienced adult student, I view the design world from a different perspective. My design experience began in 1995 as a drafting student, progressing up until the start of my family in 1997. While raising children for 20 years, I gained further insight into design by completing 4 full house renovations. The idea of working in the field as a professional designer has been a long time goal and I am grateful for the past 3 years of my college education. I look forward to completing my bachelor’s degree in Interior Architecture as well as continuing on for a master’s degree in Architecture post graduation. I have a well rounded scope of hands on experience and knowledge, as well, allowing for a quick paced start. My creative talents have expanded into a hobby of writing and painting. I also enjoy weight training, pilates, and occasional rounds of golf to maintain a healthy lifestyle. As well, traveling abroad when time allows.

project 1 | TUDOR kitchen restoration
3
Historically, kitchens were often overlooked as important communal spaces and were designed with the intention to prepare meals and store food, but with everchanging architectural and space planning trends, kitchens have become a place to share with family and friends. Our Tudor home has its own obvious challenges, especially the overall footprint of the kitchen. With minimal countertop space, and a refrigerator and stove, both freestanding on opposite sides of the room. This is not conducive to a workable kitchen by today’s standards. The primary goal for this restoration is to preserve the traditions of its style, all while complimenting it with a reworking of the space offered and reconfiguring unnecessary space, making it usable and proficient. This is achieved by removing an old unused staircase, widening doorways from the adjacent living room and dining room, as well as a small bump out on the west wall of the kitchen. To this will be added a half wall of windows to flood the room with natural light.
