DONCREST DENTAL CENTRE Location : 420 Highway 7, Markham, ON Program : Dental clinic Project Period : 3 Months, Fall 2014

Two young doctors have recently decided to expand their business. They were planning a luxurious dental office in a busy mall. They were fully aware of the importance of “good design� which would create deeper relationship with patients by offering them comfortable and relaxed warm atmosphere when they walked in to the office. Also the two doctors had a manager in their office who had sensitive design preferences; she wanted an exuberant but modern with uncluttered design. I worked our best to apply most of their ideas to the design plan.

02 NEWCASTLE DENTAL OFFICE Location : 21 King st., Newcastle, ON, Canada Program : Dental clinic Project Period : 1 Months, Fall 2014 Role : Architectural Design / Permit Drawing

Design concept has been made based on the building location and city context. I tried to avoid too modern design becasue the city has historical context as an old town. However, the facade was composed of three modern window curtain walls so that people on the street can see activities inside of the building. The window curtain wall will make it the most modern building in this town. In the front space of the building, a staircase was planned for their patinets and staffs.

03 WHITBY DENTAL OFFICE

Location : 20 Winchester Rd E. Whitby, ON, Canada Program : Dental clinic Project Period : 1 Months, Fall 2014

The site is located in a newly open shopping mall in Whitby. Since the original building had been designated as a heritage building by the city, this building was preserved in the same shape of the original building. Because of that, the unit has two-story height inside. The two-story ceiling height gives me so many inspiration.

At first, the unit has been devided into two story. The first floor was for general use and the second floor was for staffs and some special patients.

In order to fit in the building identity, which is a heritage building, classical design concept has been applied to the reception area. Natural wood panel and stone tile were used as the primary materials. On the second floor, lots of plants added to create naturalistic atmosphere.

Two-story space has a possibility of dinamic interaction between two levels. The first floor was designed to be modern and uncluttered, but the second floor was naturallized by various trees and shrubs. Patients may feel the eco-friendly design of the second floor while feeling the modernity of the reception area on the ground floor.
