There were several problems with “Get Hard,” though. Most of them happen at the end. Without giving spoilers, there’s just a ridiculous amount of random CGI happening. Normally, for a comedy that isn’t a problem because it’s there to make you laugh. However, this CGI was so bad it pulls you out of the story and makes you lean over to the guy next to you and say “dude these effects suck.”

With “Wrestlemania XXXI” happening recently, the sport is fresh on a lot of minds. As a longtime fan, I’ve always liked the storylines, the characters and the progression of events that people see as a “soap opera.”

Yes, I know wrestling is not real, but I see it more as a show than a sport, even though I do consider it a sport. Like most sports, there have been video games released for it. I thought it would be appropriate to cover the kings of the gaming ring, and see who takes the title of Undisputed Wrestling Game Champion!

The Attitude Era of the WWF (now the WWE) is considered one of the golden ages of wrestling, since it was a time where viewership was high and it was “cool” to be a wrestling fan. Developed by AKI in 2000, “No Mercy” for the Nintendo 64 was one of the products of that era, named after one of the many monthly Pay-Per-View (PPV) events that the federation hosted. In this game the player is able to take control of over 50 wrestlers and legends. The player can compete in ladder matches and take part in storylines for every title belt, which was a first for wrestling games at the time. “No Mercy” was the turning point for wrestling games, expanding upon just the usual one-fall or tag team matches. It set the bar (or top rope) for future wrestling games, which few have truly lived up to.

With the ability to create your own fighters, rings, titles, referees and more, “Fire Pro Wrestling Returns” is the ultimate wrestling simulator. Developed by Spike in 2005, this game uses a timing based grappling and strike system that tests your reflexes, having to press a button faster than your opponent, as opposed to having to button mash to gain an advantage. “Fire Pro” takes a lot of inspiration from “Puroresu,” or Japanese pro wrestling, which is a little bit more based on mixed martial arts (MMA) than a soap opera.

There is even a MMA based set of rules, so you can simulate those matches as well. With a focus on the simulation aspect, that means there is no story mode in this game, as it is just pure wrestling and MMA. If you like the combat and dislike the drama, this is the wrestling game for you.

Wrestling and 2000s hip-hop? What sounds like Published by Midway in 1995 for arcades and later an easy cash grab turns out to be one of the best for the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis, this is not your conventional wrestling game. When I think of a wrestling game, this game comes to mind. “Here Comes the Pain” was released on the PS2 by THQ in 2003, during the WWE’s “Ruthless Aggression” era. With over 70 wrestlers, the ability to create over a 100 wrestlers, an extensive story mode and more match types than you can shake a chair at, this game is the total package. You can customize who are the faces (good guys) and heels (bad guys), set moves for every wrestler, custom or not, unlock legends such as The Road Warriors and Hulk Hogan (brother) and experience different stories throughout the in-game year. All the characters are randomized for each story, so you will never get the same scenario twice. Plus you compete for the greatest prizes the WWE can offer: the eight championship belts. Even though it’s pretty dated, I still play it because of how unique and rouge-like the gameplay is. If you are looking for the best wrestling game money can buy, look no further. Just say goodbye to whatever free time you have left.

review ‘Godspell’ at Westminster

Presbyterian leaves audiences feeling “#blessed” by josephine norris photo editor

When was the last time you went to see a musical and the venue had beautiful stain glass windows and you could see the pipes of an organ upstage? For most people, it doesn’t happen very often, but Westminster Presbyterian Church is working to provide its audience with this experience through the production of “Godspell” with music by Stephen Schwartz and directed by Brandon Severn Bierlein.

The musical opens with the cast, dressed in black, becoming confused and babbling over philosophy. Enter Jesus, in a vibrant white shirt and blond hair and the cast exchanges their confusion and black garb for costumes of every color of the rainbow. Blue, purple, yellow, green, orange, red, and brown; they are all present onstage as the group of Jesus’ disciples assemble, pause

his teachings of love for all. The show moves from parable to parable of Jesus’ imagination, illustrating the way of life he desires his followers to lead. As the story progresses, Jesus’ (spoiler alert) death upon the cross becomes increasingly apparent and the disciples resolve to stand by him through it all and follow his teachings faithfully.

The set is comprised of crates and boxes turned on their side. Burlap cloth was draped over pews and stacks of old hymnals onstage and far upstage, a cross and the church’s organ pipes completed the picture of an old abandoned church where the cast performed. I loved how the set and props placed on the stage added to the “found space” feeling of the set; where the production team found a space and determined the best way to tell a story while still

Dear Mary, The answer to your question is probably never. Whether you’re working overtime to meet a deadline or walking home in shame wearing Ziggy Stardust makeup, chances are you’re going to view yourself exactly as you do now.

Adulthood isn’t something that happens to you, it’s something you do. You won’t realize you’re an adult until long after it’s happened, and I can guarantee you’re probably well on your way.

Hollywood has poisoned our minds, not with its gay agendas and liberal conspiracies, but with its character growth and incessant narrative.

In movies, there’s always a beginning, middle and end, characters struggle, overcome and ultimately people move

along their life in a beautifully poetic path.

That’s not going to happen to you, because life doesn’t have a narrative and it’s critically important you understand that. In real life things go wrong, people change for the worse, friends die young and no one not your parents, professors or friends have any clue if they’re doing the right thing.

If you’ve been waiting all this time for a grand revelation, some new sense of self, or some feeling of certainty in your life I’ve got some bad news.

The only thing certain in life is how it ends, and the only epiphany you’ll ever feel is when you realize that.

There are only a few things in life that you get to control. You can’t pick your parents and you can’t change the past, some people have a limitless

future while others will spend it behind bars. In reality the only thing you get to control is your perspective.

Doesn’t that just make you want to drink forever? Seriously I have enough trouble deciding what I’m going

by my experiences, actions and choices.

Fascism is suddenly starting to make more sense to me.

Instead of falling into despair, embrace the freedom you have! Perspective is a powerful thing; no matter how wide the gap is between present and future, you can completely change how you see yourself.

So what was the question again?

Oh right, adulthood! Despite my digressions the point still stands, adulthood isn’t going to happen to you. One day you’re going to look back on your life where you began thinking and acting in a way that you consider to be adult.

But what is an adult anyway?

Seriously I’m over here thinking about the universe and you’re worried about whether your friends see you as an adult? Grow up! Turn off the Xbox, cut your hair, and get a job you worthless kid.

I love shows that have an ensemble with a large presence in the show, like in “Godspell." The cast was comprised of Westminster Presbyterian church members and actors from around the Tri-city area.

Every cast member was absolutely invaluable to the show and so unbelievably talented. I could not cast. The life that each actor brought to their character was as vibrant as their rainbow hued costumes.

The energy onstage reminded me of depictions of energetic Southern Baptist church services, complete with shouts of “Praise the Lord!” and hand clapping.

The score of “Godspell” is so exciting and energetic that you want to get up and dance along with the cast onstage as well as powerfully beautiful songs with haunting melodies. The band for “Godspell” is very small, consisting of drums, guitar, bass, piano and a Clavinova.

But, the small size was perfect for the show and sounded amazing.

The neat thing about Stephen Schwartz’s 1971 musical is that many lines from the script are taken right from the Gospel according to Matthew, chronicling Jesus’ ministry on earth. And the scenes consist of the ensemble acting out famous parables Jesus shared with his followers to “build a beautiful city.”

To be able to witness this energetic and vibrant production of “Godspell” right here in the Tricity area, I have to say that I am “#blessed as the cast proclaimed during the show.

“Godspell” ran April 2, 3 and 4 at 7 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian, 103 E. Midland St. in Bay City.

Men’s baseball program hits 100 wins dcgabriellem

The 2015 Delta College Men’s Baseball team helped make history for the program on Friday, April 3 in their games against the SVSU Club. The 9-4 wins in both games of the double-header brought gave the program their 99th and 100th wins. Thirteen of those wins were made by this year’s team.

“I told them to make sure they didn’t allow that to be the highlight of their season,” says head coach, Danny Smith.

The team went on to play Kellogg Community College, a team that Smith says is ranked

“In the second game, we just outplayed them,” says Smith. Earlier in the season, Smith said that one of the team’s biggest challenges would be learning to slow the game down - something that he now says the team has accomplished.

Aikido, and other martial arts, focus on maintaining these methods in everyday life.

Adjunct Professor Rolland Auman, Bay City, has taught Tae Kwon Doe at Delta College for 25 years. He said he began learning and training in Martial Arts 43 years ago.

“Martial Arts are my interests and hobbies as well,” Auman stated.

“I’ve been doing this for years. The Aikido Academy at Delta College is something I started about 15 years ago.”

Auman explained Aikido is different from other forms of Martial

Arts such as Tae Kwon Doe because it is non-competitive and focused on self-defense more than anything else.

“The competition is with yourself,” he said. “[Aikido] deals with your own abilities and your own fears, and we focus on those throughout the class.”

A variety of students join each semester ranging from all different ages, male or female, that say they enjoyed the course.

“One of the great things about our Aikido class is the near perfect attendance,” Auman said. “And I always joke with my students and tell right, because you guys keep coming back’.”

Auman continued to explain that not only can Aikido help defend oneself, but also learn more about oneself.

I get it. It’s hard to disconnect from communication when driving.

But you have to unplug and concentrate on the road. It’s pretty obvious to those behind you when you slowly start to drift out of your lane.

If you really can’t stand ceasing communication while driving, download an app like DriveSafe.ly or text-STAR that will send a autoreply that you’re driving to all incoming messages.

You don’t let your friends drink and drive; don’t let me them text and drive either.

American Politics assignment gets outside attention by marisa loranger staff reporter

In Lisa Lawrason’s American Politics class, two students have created a petition that is receiving a lot of attention.

Emily Schiesswohl and Kassandra Merritt decided to make a petition titled “Repeal Michigan’s anti-LGBT—Right-to-Discriminate bill.”

“I’m pro gay rights. Their voices aren’t heard. It should be a right for everyone to not be discriminated against,” said Schiesswohl.

Their petition says “...On December 5th, Michigan passed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. With this Act, doctors now have the right to deny the treatment of a person if the person is in fact gay. The doctor would be allowed to deny treatment and claim that his/her religion prevents them from providing treatment. This includes EMTs/paramedics.”

Lawrason’s class started off with students choosing topics they are interested in.

The students then grouped together and had the option to write a letter, make a petition or join an interest group.

“We thought [creating a petition] was the most effective way to make a difference,” said Schiesswohl. few people signed it at school. Schiesswohl then posted it on Facebook and it got 100 signatures. Within a few days it reached 400. Someone then chose to promote their petition online and now they are 187 signatures away from reaching their goal of 1,500.

“I didn’t know that Michigan had so many laws against [LGBT] people before I chose this topic,” said Schiesswohl. with people talking about their frustration with Michigan’s laws.

Erin Wright of Lapeer explained in a comment, “As a lifelong resident of Michigan, I am angry that laws that make bigotry legal exist in the state I love.”

Schiesswohl is really glad to see her petition has made it so far.

“I just really want to say thanks to people for taking the time to be considerate,” said Schiesswohl.
