WAVE ALERTS School Closings for Snow and Emergencies The School has contracted with Honeywell Instant Alerts to communicate closings due to weather or emergencies. Parents will be informed of closings virtually instantaneously at approximately 5:30 a.m. through their choice of medium (phone, cell, internet, etc.). News of a closing will also be posted on the School’s website and the School’s phone system at extension 2999.

Attendance Policy Students will be excused from school for the following reasons: illness, death in the family, and religious holidays. Juniors and Seniors, with advance approval by the Assistant Headmaster, will also be excused for college visits according to the procedure outlined in the student handbook.

Attendance Procedures On the day of an absence, a parent or guardian should notify the School of the student's absence by telephoning ABSE (2273) before 8:45am. All students must bring a note explaining their absence on the day of their return to School. Procedure for pre-arranged absences is outlined in the student handbook.

Homework Assignments If a student is absent for a day or two, he may contact his classmates for missed assignments. In some cases, assignments may be posted on the Schoology Class Website, sent via class e-mail, and/or written into the class syllabus. Most teachers allow students to contact them directly via e-mail. Since we expect a student to be responsible for his own learning, he should be aware of each individual class policy regarding absences. For extended absences, contact the appropriate grade level guidance counselor or the Dean of Guidance.

Yearly Medical Regulations

Council of Seniors

The following forms MUST be signed and on file with the School nurse. These forms are required at the beginning of each school year and updated yearly:

1. Student’s medical history – must be entered online. 2. Immunization record in compliance with New Jersey Administrative Code, including the Hepatitis B series and meningococcal vaccine, varicella vaccine (or laboratory evidence of immunity) and Tdap. 3. Yearly physical by physician, must be done every 365 days 4. Authorization for administration of medication (includes over-the-counter medications such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen). Permission form must be signed by physician and by parent 5. Yearly dental exam. 6. Emergency contact information – must be entered on line. 7. Students trying out for sports must have current physical and Delbarton Athletic Pre-participation Form completed for each sport. All student-athletes must also sign the NJSIAA Concussion Policy Form and the NJSIAA Steroid Policy Form. If playing a contact sport the Impact consent form must be signed.

Daily Medical Regulations Students are not permitted to carry any medication during the school day unless it is for emergency purposes. (Epipens and inhalers can be carried by the student when the written order from the doctor and permission of the parent is on file with the nurse.) An Authorization for Administration of Medication (# 4 above) must be on file before nurse is allowed to give any medications. Any student who needs to leave school during the day due to illness must be seen first by the School nurse. All injuries must be reported to the School nurse. All excuses for gym/sports must be given to the nurse. The School has accident insurance coverage through Bollinger Insurance Co. Notify the nurse if you wish to file a claim. Claims must be filed within 90 days of date of injury. All infectious diseases (i.e., mononucleosis, strep throat, impetigo, mrsa, conjunctivitis) are to be reported to the nurse. Please keep your sons home when they are ill and notify nurse at ext3080 of extended illness of greater than 3 days, surgery and/or other special needs. If your son is going on a field trip or staying on campus for an evening or weekend event, please notify the faculty in charge of any specific health needs. This includes asthma, diabetes, seizure disorder, and allergic condition which may require the use of an Epipen. (Students with inhalers and/or Epipens should carry their own with them at all times.)

Admissions The admission season runs from September to January of a given academic year. Applicants typically apply, therefore, in the fall prior to their year of actual enrollment. Students usually apply to Delbarton for acceptance into seventh or ninth grades, though a few openings may be available every year to grades ten and eleven. Delbarton does not accept students into grades eight or twelve. A boy’s candidacy for admission will be considered only after he completes the application (either online or on paper), the school interview offered at Delbarton on Saturday mornings (from September to early January), and the Delbarton entrance examination (administered at Delbarton on three Saturdays – October 26, November 16 and December 7).

The Admissions Committee meets formally in late January regarding decisions to accept, wait pool, or decline students for grades seven and nine. Action on students for grades ten and eleven may take place as late as June. Delbarton seeks a broad diversity in its student body. The School is also committed to making its educational opportunities available to qualified young men regardless of their ability to pay. Delbarton demonstrates this commitment through a growing financial aid program designed to meet the proven financial need of enrolled families.
