Look to the sky Aug. 9 for the grand finale of summer. This full moon is known as the Sturgeon Moon which is named for the time of year when Native Americans would catch the fish in the Northeast including the Delaware River.

Sturgeon are vitally important to the Delaware River since they play a role in maintaining the health of the freshwater ecosystem and during migration they redistribute the sediments of the riverbed.
