Students gathered at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral with other Catholic high school students to celebrate Catholic Schools Week with Archbishop Allen Vigneron.

In January, De La Salle students traveled to Washington DC to participate in the annual March for Life.

During March, International Baccalaureate students sorted items for backpacks to deliver to the Veterans’ Hospital in Detroit. The backpacks included toiletries and personal items. Congratulations to the top three winners of the 2018 Martin Luther King Essay Contest: Ryan Beginin ‘19, Ben Iacona ‘18, and Nino Minniti ‘19. Photo: DLS President John M. Congratulations to Senior Mike Ososkie, the 2018 Balgenorth Scholarship Winner. The scholarship, formally named the Richard A. Balgenorth Lasallian Award for Higher Education, is in tribute to the memory of Mr. Richard Balgenorth, ‘75, and his belief that De La Salle Collegiate plays a crucial role as a foundation for lifelong learning. The Award aims to financially assist a graduating De La Salle senior continue his education at a college or university.

Students compete for the $1,000 Senior Mike Ososkie, Mrs. Kim Balgenorth, and Brother Bob Carnaghi. scholarship by writing an essay on what their DLS education has meant to them. Mike attended St. Lawrence, and is neighbors with Mike carries a 3.75 grade point average, and has been on the Student Council all four years, including two years as an officer. Mike takes Honors and Advanced Placement courses, including the Banking class and he works several mods a week in the Christian Financial Credit Union Branch inside of DLS. Mike said the Balgenorth Scholarship is particularly meaningful to him. “Writing the essay gave me an opportunity to look back on my time at De La Salle and realize all that it has done for me.
