MISSION Statement De La Salle Collegiate is dedicated to the Lasallian Catholic education of its diverse students, including the poor and disadvantaged. We are a college-preparatory school inspired by the spirit and tradition of St. John Baptist de La Salle, where learning takes place in the presence of God. Each student is encouraged to develop his faith, character, intellect, and morality.
This mission is embodied in the school’s motto:
Derived from the Five Core Principles of Lasallian Schools (Quality Education, Inclusive Community, Concern for the Poor/Social Justice, Respect, Faith), these four terms, when used together, make up our DNA that is specifically us.

Discover Lasallian Education and Service For Others As a Christian Brothers’ High School, De La Salle Collegiate continues in the Catholic traditions of the innovative educator St. John Baptist de La Salle, who founded the Brothers of the Christian Schools. De La Salle engages in programs in which students’ personal, social and religious values may take root and in which students may grow in mature attitudes and behavior in all human relationships. De La Salle strives to foster an environment of faith that produces a reciprocal respect among all persons in the community and to establish an atmosphere in which community members may openly bear witness to the Gospel values and a preferential option for the poor. De La Salle Collegiate believes in the power and strength of community building, and shared service experience. It is our intention that each student be given opportunities to experience the qualitative aspect of service bearing witness to what Jesus calls the two greatest commandments: to love God and to love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:37-39). De La Salle’s service program strives to increasingly expose students to various community needs and provides opportunities to engage in short and long-term remedies to those needs, including significant direct contact with the needy.

Academics DEPARTMENTS
Business & Technology Department Courses are designed for those who would like to explore business at an introductory level as well as for those who have a high level of interest and plan to study business at the college level. Students have the opportunity to learn about business beyond the traditional means. Students attend field trips, interact with professionals and learn hands on with our partnership with Christian Financial Credit Union. English Department The English Department offers honors courses at every level, and seniors are also provided with the option to take Advanced Placement Literature which gives them the opportunity to obtain college credits while still in high school. All of our English classes focus on expanding the writing skills of the students, including their argumentative (ACT-style) and analytical writing skills. After completing all required English courses, students will leave De La Salle with proficiency in the standard usage of language and an ability to critically think and read for understanding new content and the world around them. Fine Arts The Fine Arts Department gives students basic art skills, beginning simply, then expanding to be technically strong. As they continue in the program, those skills are used to create their own creative voice, both in the style and look of their work, as well as in the intention, or what the work is trying to say. Students learn to write and edit short films, simple photo manipulation, and build towards an advertising agency type environment where students create logos and marketing materials for real and made-up companies. With all Fine Arts courses, a focus is put on careers within the creative industry.
Foreign Languages Our program requires two consecutive years of language study. We offer both Spanish and French. We offer Honors and AP to those juniors and seniors who wish to continue their studies at an advanced level. Our program goal is to develop students’ communicative competence in all four modes of communication and expose them to the cultures that speak these languages to promote greater understanding, tolerance, and acceptance of others. Mathematics Every student can be successful with the right support group. Our Department strives to meet the needs of the class as a whole and each student individually. This means meeting our students at their current level of understanding and challenging all of our students to succeed beyond their expectations. We encourage critical thinking and incorporate problem-solving opportunities in all of our classrooms and offer a variety of levels of classes that not only challenge the students but prepare their skill sets for college and the rest of their lives. Physical Education Basic rules, skills, and game play will be introduced. Activities include, but are not limited to, touch-football, soccer, floor hockey, basketball, pickleball, speedball, softball and weight training. The lifetime sport model is employed by the department, emphasizing exposure to as many sports as possible with the intent of promoting fitness for life. Science The curriculum includes mandatory Biology and Chemistry classes for freshman and sophomore year. They follow their path of interest and choose between 12 different course offerings. Of these 12-course offerings students at De La Salle are provided with the opportunity to obtain college credits while in high school. These courses include Advanced Placement Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Students can also take a two-year Biology and Chemistry course as part of the International Baccalaureate program. The ultimate goal of the department is to teach students to understand and love science to become knowledgeable global citizens. Students are required to have three years of Science to graduate. Social Studies The curriculum includes mandatory World History, American History, Economics, and American Government classes. Students can also learn more about themselves and society by taking Psychology and Sociology. Students are provided with the opportunity to take a wide variety of courses that offer the chance to earn college credits while in high school. Those include Advanced Placement European History, American History, Human Geography, Economics, and American Government.

Extracurricular ACTIVITIES
Educating the whole person In the Lasallian tradition of educating the whole
person, we encourage students to participate in the many outstanding extracurricular clubs and activities offered at De La Salle Collegiate. Part of what makes the school such a special place is that students feel comfortable trying new things and developing their talents in a safe environment. In addition to the fine arts and athletic offerings, students will find a long list of activities.
Robotics and Innovation De La Salle Collegiate is proud to be a participating
school in the FIRST Robotics Competition. Comprised of faculty members, adult mentors, and students, the team has six weeks to design, build, and program a robot to engage in competition against other schools in the region. Students of all skill levels are welcome and elevate their skills in programming, electronics, mechanical engineering, publicity, communication, and more. The result? Academic S U P P O R T Loepp Family Foundation Pilot Center De La Salle is a professional learning
community, and as such, we are committed to ensuring high levels of learning for all students. The role of the Academic Support team is to provide the extra time and support that some students may need to master the essentials.
Academic Support Screening and Progress Monitoring Identifying students
early is key to closing learning gaps and achieving success. De La Salle’s screening of incoming students is academically focused and includes one standardized measure - the High School Placement Test (HSPT). This assessment provides our admissions and academic support team members with local and national rankings in both Cognitive and Academic skills. A student’s performance on this assessment leads to curriculum based measures designed by our Academic Support team as well as a multi-disciplinary interview.
Loepp Family Foundation Pilot Center Programs: Future Achievement Starts Today (FAST) The FAST program is specifically designed to assist those few, select freshmen students who have been identified as needing targeted assistance to help them to succeed with DLS’s academic rigor. FAST students are enrolled in either Principles of Literacy or Intensive Math and some students are enrolled in both.
Student Academic Intervention for Learning (SAIL) Our goal is student
learning. This begins with each teacher designing specific learning targets for each class and develops excellent lessons to assist students in mastering the essentials of the course. The term SAIL encompasses all levels of a Multitiered System of Academic Support. SAIL supports includes implementation of a behavioral intervention, direct tutoring either, scheduling and assignment Power Hour tutoring sessions and administration of accommodated assessment.
COUNSELING The mission and responsibility of the Counseling Department is to advocate for students. We seek to develop a relationship with each student and become cognizant of the students’ academic, personal, social and spiritual strengths and weaknesses. We assist students in their developmental growth from freshman year through senior year and strive to maximize their potential in every way possible in partnership with parents and teachers.

College P L A N N I N G The Counselors at De La Salle Collegiate are committed to providing comprehensive information, guidance and support for students and their families in the college exploration, selection and admission process. One of the primary roles for our Counselors is to support students in finding colleges that are a good fit for each individual student; that are a place where he will thrive both academically and socially; and that are a place where they will be challenged to grow in new ways that will prepare them for success after college. Counselors stress the value of the college experience over name recognition and rankings. Students are therefore best served by keeping an open mind in the exploration process, by continually reflecting on what their own needs and preferences are, and by engaging actively in the process themselves. This includes investing their own time and energy in preparing academically, investigating options, visiting colleges and completing the steps in the application process. Our Counselors are experienced, well-trained, and student-centered. They provide a robust and comprehensive college counseling program. Each year, Juniors and Seniors can attend presentations (on our campus) from college and university representatives from nearly 150 schools. Information and guidance on full range of post-high school options, including four-year colleges, community colleges, technical and vocational programs, gap-year programs and other possibilities. Our Counselors are available to students, parents and guardians by phone, email, and family meeting.
