- Led a small interior design team of 6 - working in the scope of 4 buildings utilized for administration and fundraising events, early learning centers, job training, and a gymnasium.

NHL ARENA REDEFINING THE FAN EXPERIENCE FOR CONNECTIVITY AND ENGAGEMENT Who:

GENERATION Z

Generation Z is the loneliest generation the world has seen, with isolation rates higher than 70%. In this digital age, the live sports industry has faced declining engagement amongst Gen Z, with almost half of this demographic never attending a live sporting event. To address this, I propose the design of a vibrant, and inclusive arena where the environment will create a community in which Gen Z feels excited to become a part of and thrive.

Where:

SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA Saint Paul, The capital city of Minnesota was founded in 1854. As one of the oldest cities in Minnesota, Saint Paul flows deep with tradition, wide with talent and diversity, and strong with economic and cultural vitality. The site is off of Rice Park which is the center of cultural activity in the city. For the last half century the area has been primarily devoted to commercial uses.

The Tunnel - Fan Zone

TERRA INGOGNITA

A traverse through the Minnesotan landscape that challenges our understanding and invites discovery through transition and exploring the unknown. Just as breaking ice reveals hidden depths, skyway and tunnel networks guide you to new experiences, and the mystery of the forest invites adventure; each game is a journey through the excitement of community and the exploration of whats to come. Encouraging connection through shared discovery.

The atmosphere of an arena can be extremely over stimulating and overwhelming to a large demographic of sport fans. Through my primary research, surveys, and interviews, I found a majority of Gen-Z are more deterred by the atmosphere than the sports.

ARTIFACT BISTRO Inspired by Walker Art Center and Sculpture Garden

In this bistro you are met with the artifacts sculpted by local artists.

Connected not only to those around you, but now the community. The style and organization pays homage to the architecture of the Walker Art Center with modernity at the forefront: colliding geometry, primary colors and rustic metals.

INTERIOR FACADE Local motifs and sense of place draw users into the space. Whether through a mosaic tile installation by Sheryl Tuorila, or utilizing familiar materials like wrinkled aluminum mesh panels. The bar serves to unite the restaurant with the concourse.

MILANESE RESTAURANT AND FASHION BOUTIQUE - CASA DI MODA Who:

MICHAEL PIROLO The client, Michael Pirolo, was born in Queens, New York, but raised in a town in Italy called Avellino, which is just East of Naples. He studied Culinary Arts in Turin Italy, just west of Milan. As he says, he is “passionate about pasta.” He respects tradition, authenticity, and takes an honest and soulful approach to cooking.

Where:

WYNWOOD - MIAMI, FLORIDA Wynwood is a neighborhood in Miami that has undergone a lot of transition. From a working class neighborhood established in 1917, to the vibrant art hub that it is today. During the late 1920’s fashion manufacturers and retail stores moved to Wynwood - transforming the neighborhood into the garment district. After WWII, there was a rush of migration to Miami which grew the workforce in Wynwood. Thus, the industry boomed and quickly became the 3rd largest garment district in the country.

A chrome runway displays clothing made by local Wynwood designers. The acoustical treatment imitates the movement of fabric while the space is illuminated by the Flos Arco lamps circa Milan 1960’s.

Casa di Moda sells garments made by local Wynwood designers meant to strengthen the connection between Passerella and the local community. It is organized radially to juxtapose the very linear Passerella dining experience and also to keep customers circulating.

GREENBRIAR CHILDREN’S CENTER By providing childcare, affordable early learning programs, emergency shelter for children and young adults, as well as family preservation and counseling services - Greenbriar stands as a beacon of hope for the community, committed to the healthy development of children and the strengthening of families.

Where:

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA Greenbriar is located in southern Savannah, across from Derene Middle School. Their vast campus includes 8 buildings, (our scope included 4 of them) as well as an outdoor basketball court, a gazebo, and extensive open fields with Savannah’s historic live oak trees. With many of their buildings being underutilized, outdated, or empty, Greenbriar was excited to propose the opportunity to restructure and redefine their campus.

PLAY AND CREATE Two rooms in the gymnasium were not being utilized. We transformed these spaces into inclusive environments that support various recreational activities for the kids living here.

Game Center: For social activities including ping pong, board games, video games and musical or theatrical expression.

Art Lounge: Separated into two zones: the free spirited zone, where children are free to express their creativity, and the lounge zone where there kids can escape with their favorite book. The custom unit has a variety of seating nooks, inspired by the prospect-refuge theory.

THE DINKLAGE FAMILY The clients are a family of four constituting of Peter, (53) Erica, (47) and their two children. (12 & 6). Peter is a well known actor and producer who suffers from achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism, and Erica is a writer and director. The family values privacy very highly when it comes to their personal life. They are also passionate activists for nature and animal rights.

Where:

BLUFFTON, SOUTH CAROLINA Bluffton is located in low-country South Carolina. The home is situated in a beautiful gated neighborhood. It is a wonderful home to enjoy nature with both north and south facing porches, windows on every side of the house, a nearby campsite and golf course. The climate is subtropical. Hot and humid a majority of the year with hurricanes a factor to consider.

DESIGN EMPATHY To provide an effortless and independent living space for the Dinklage family, a number of design choices rooted in Peter’s height being 4’ - 5”.

- A custom double height vanity in the shared restroom - Steps into the bathtub - Low profile furniture - French door style appliances - Custom kitchen drawers that pull out into steps.

MATERIALITY The Rose Dhu Creek houses uses natural materials and finishes with an effort for sustainable living and clean indoor air quality. Natural walnut wood throughout the home, honed travertine, soapstone, wool, banana fabric, and terracotta.

Lighting imitates life, like these handmade sconces in the form of seashells and flower petals.

INTRINSIC What:

SCULPTURE DESIGN The purpose of this design was to create a sculptural biophilic element for the sculpture garden of New York’s Museum of Modern Art. One that is reactive to the architecture and the natural environment that it exists in. Doing this allows for an intrinsic focal point of the space to observe and reflect upon. Combining a white plaster that compliments the museum with patches of moss to be continue to grow, adapt, and nurture the atmosphere.
