Kosen school at Kmutt is a special school aimed to provide advanced engineering courses for students with talent and interest in innovation fields, to prepare them to be future innovators. After the first 3 years, students can continue the study for 2 more years and receive bachelor degree in engineering.

Concept

“Striding” is the starting concept for this project. the word come from the iconic story based learning of the school, the concept of striding to the future, and the intent connect each floor and space with one circulation line.

Our design intent is

To create a learning space with visuals transparency and connection to each other so every activities can inspire and motivate other.

To connect each floor and space with one circulation line, integrate with the public usage area.

To reduce energy consumption with natural light and ventilation.

Site Analysis

The site Located in the boundary of KMUTT Bamgkhunthian campus. Surrounded by multiple buildings on South and East side. Greenery and Pond surround on North and west side.

Majority of Wind throughout a year blow into the site from Southwest, with a few month from Northeast.

Sun Passing through South

almost a year, with 2 - 3 month that passing through North.

Sun orientation angle study from March, June, December on different time for facade design.

User mostly come and go from dormitory on the west and canteen on the north, create a intersection at a corner which also connect path lead to pond. Each connection create a cross axis on the site

Concept

“Striding” is the starting concept for this project. the word come from the iconic story based learning of the school, the concept of striding to the future, and the intent connect each floor and space with one circulation line.

Creating a mass on the site. Orient a mass according to site analysis. Define main circulation and other programs.

Separate programs on two side into segments. Carving out more mass to receive more ventilation and natural light.

floor programs is similar to fourth floor except Lab in this floor is wet lab which has four more addition programs inside.

On each elevation, facade materials and technique is all different to each other. Each of them has been specifically installed according to sun orientation from each direction balanced with usage from each area

This section cut through main circulation hall from one side to other. The main stair set located at the center area which cover be transparent glass wall and window. This section also show usage of transparent and translucent glass on each end. Transparent used in north end since it connect to nature scenery and doesn’t receive sunray many month in a year.

This section cut across one side to the other side of building wing, showing visual connection to scenery behind. The wall was all finished by glass wall and window at inner layer and vertical fin at outer layer.
