This striking copper colored mare was born in Kentucky and had 18 starts with 2 wins in her racing career as Super Thunder! She retired as a broodmare and came to DEFHR in March of 2023 with a foal on her side as a part of neglect case in Jefferson County, WV.
She’s ready for the next chapter in her life and would enjoy a non-riding retirement home due to arthritic changes in her neck (neck radiographs available to the adopter).
Khaleesi enjoys living out in a pasture in a herd of mares and is easy to catch, lead and groom. She loves basking in the sun during a grooming session! She’ll make a super companion as she is barefoot and not currently on any medications and enjoys living out 24/7 but is also wellmannered in a stall.
Ready to open your home and heart to this striking mare? She has put her time in as a hard working racehorse and as a mom and is now ready for a more leisurely life!
“She loves basking in the sun during a grooming session!”

How long have you volunteered with DEFHR?
Do you have a favorite DEFHR herd member, past or present? If so, who? 9 years.
I’ve got a few, most of them are past: Santana, Delmar. My very first one was Atlas. My favorite now is Frederick (Freddie) and Trevor!
did you initially find out about us?
We did charity through our paycheck at work (State of Maryland), so I would just pick something that had to do with animals out of a book, which is where I found the name Days End. I then came to the Lisbon Christmas Parade of Horses, saw the farm, toured, talked to staff, and started volunteering! This was in 2015.
What's your favorite part of volunteering with DEFHR?
I have lots of them! I like doing the chores with other volunteers, and I love the one-on-one time grooming the horses. I love the training we get to do with the trainers (Equidopting and Horsemanship lessons).
Did you have any previous equine experience(s) before volunteering with DEFHR? What was it?
Nope! I was involved with dogs before DEFHR.
We need help with making sure volunteer groups have a fun, educational and safe time when they visit our farm to help out. Email Mattie at volunteer@defhr.org if you can help!

Many employers offer matching funds and paid time off to volunteer and give back to the community? Corporations and businesses are getting on board with matching donation amounts for their employees. For example, you donate $10 each paycheck (via automatic payroll deduction) then your employer matches your amount to your chosen charity!! Your employer may also offer paid time off to volunteer with your co-workers. Businesses partnering with local non-profits is a great way to show their support and give back to their local communities. Plus, employee group volunteering serves as a team building experience.
MCCORMICK SPICE, UNITED HEALTH CARE, T. ROWE PRICE, HOME DEPOT, RAYTHEON, CLOROX, CONSTELLATION
ENERGY AND CVS HEALTH ARE JUST A FEW OF THE MANY COMPANIES GIVING BACK THROUGH THEIR EMPLOYEES.
Check with your employer’s human resources department for the give back programs they offer or about starting one! For corporate/business group volunteer opportunities, please email Carrie at welcome@defhr.org.
