HORSE SPOTLIGHT
JULIUS A Young Standardbred with a Bright Future
Julius is a 2 year old Standardbred gelding with all the right ingredients for a promising future. Though unraced, he was bred to be a trotter and has shown no signs of pacing. With his solid foundation and excellent brain, this handsome young horse is ready to grow with the right person. Standing over 15hh already, Julius is going to be a tall, athletic partner. He is handled daily and continues to impress us with his calm, willing demeanor. He stands like a gentleman for bathing, grooming, and the farrier, AND he’s already begun groundwork training. Julius is learning to lunge, yield his hindquarters and forequarters, and navigate basic obstacles. With unlimited potential and a great work ethic, Julius is an exciting blank slate ready to continue his education. Whether you're looking for a future trail companion or sport horse prospect, Julius could be the one you've been waiting for.
Saddle Up for the cutest 4H Project you’ve ever seen HANNAH WILLIAMS
is a junior at Genelg Country School who became a volunteer after falling in love with Vinnie the Mini at the fair’s “rescue day” in 2023. This year she participated in the 4H Diamond Clover Project, which encourages youth to build essential life skills.
Hannah felt that partnering with DEFHR to identify one of our needs was the perfect fit to complete her level 6 project. She built a brand new set of mini horse jumps including 4 pairs of jump standards, poles, planks, a flower box, a coop and a gate. To get the community involved, she created an art contest allowing members of the community to help design the artwork for the jumps. In addition, Hannah organized a group volunteer day at DEFHR for her 4H club and created a guide to help her club plan future volunteering events.
Hannah is entering one of the jumps in the Montgomery County Agriculture Fair-stay tuned...
Hannah hopes her work will continue to inspire awareness and action for rescue horses long after the final jump is placed.
