Looking Back at August

Out and About...

Festival season is upon us, and as part of the celebration, DEFHR sent a booth team and horse ambassadors “out and about” to the Montgomery County Fair in August! We featured horse meet-andgreets, an information booth, an equitainment session with Leugha and Zillow, AND a special presentation of DEFHR’s very own Drill Team!

HORSE SPOTLIGHT

O’Malley

Our ambassador herd doesn’t get enough recognition on how awesome they are so here’s a shout out to O’Malley! He was a rock star during our Legacy Camp days this summer and was a steady eddy carting kids around on game day. He wasn’t the fastest and never won a race but he was a safe mount for those that were nervous about getting on a horse for the first time.

He went to our annual golf fundraiser this summer with his buddy, Waldo, a fellow ambassador horse and hammed it up with people that wanted to get a photo with him. He looked so striking and handsome after a good bath and he was very well mannered being introduced to a lot of new people.

He also recently joined the DEFHR drill team with his rider, Kathy, to showcase all that a rescue horse can do at the Montgomery County Fair. O’Malley and Kathy represented well and he kept up with Turvey, Isaac and Rooster!

We couldn’t do any of the education programs without O’Malley and friends. So next time you are out at the farm, be sure to give them all a little scratch and thank you!

Many employers offer matching funds and paid time off to volunteer and give back to the community? Corporations and businesses are getting on board with matching donation amounts for their employees. For example, you donate $10 each paycheck (via automatic payroll deduction) then your employer matches your amount to your chosen charity!! Your employer may also offer paid time off to volunteer with your co-workers. Businesses partnering with local non-profits is a great way to show their support and give back to their local communities. Plus, employee group volunteering serves as a team building experience.

MCCORMICK SPICE, UNITED HEALTH CARE, T. ROWE PRICE, HOME DEPOT, RAYTHEON, CLOROX, CONSTELLATION

ENERGY AND CVS HEALTH ARE JUST A FEW OF THE MANY COMPANIES GIVING BACK THROUGH THEIR EMPLOYEES.

Check with your employer’s human resources department for the give back programs they offer or about starting one! For corporate/business group volunteer opportunities, please email Carrie at welcome@defhr.org.
