HORSE SPOTLIGHT

Manny

This sweet, gentle giant of a Standardbred has quickly gained a lot of fans and a lot of love from DEFHR staff and volunteers. He is such a good guy with a big heart. He is straight forward and a pleasure to work around. He recently started in our training program with one of our volunteers and he has not put a hoof wrong. He is delightful to lunge and roundpen, and he melded right into our gelding herd with minimal drama. It’s like he a such a short time.

We’ve not evaluated him under saddle yet but if he hangs around a little longer, that is the next step for this handsome gelding. We love this gentle, kind guy and we know he will make a great friend for both horse and human!

Comings

No new horse friends this month, however, we did gain a new Development Associate, Nell Parsons! She is a previous volunteer and we are so excited to have her on the team.

Volunteer Groups

Did you know we host different types of groups for “volunteer days” here at the farm? From Scouts to Seniors to Corporate Companies, we welcome all types to come for a day of service.

Leading a group entails giving a brief tour of the property, setting them up with an assigned farm project, and giving a horse ‘meet and greet’ opportunity at the end.

If you love meeting new people and are interested in this fulfilling volunteer opportunity- let Kelsey know at volunteer@defhr.org.
