HORSE SPOTLIGHT
MEET TITO! Tito is a coming 2 year old Standardbred gelding. He is ALL leg at this stage of growing up! He is one that wants to be where the people are and is a kind, quiet young chap. He is handled daily and is currently in a training program to ensure that he has the foundation to grow into a solid citizen.
Tito is learning the basics of life including catching, leading, backing, yielding the hindquarters and forequarters (which he is excellent at even in his gangly stage!) some lunging, tarp work, obstacles, hosing, up the fence (mounting prep), blanketing and standing quietly for the farrier. He was the most nervous/unhandled of the young ones from the group of Standardbreds that he came in with in the summer of 2024 and he has made great progress with his confidence and his ability to handle the unknown better. Tito is kind, a bit of an old soul in some ways, and he will make a wonderful all-around horse for someone with young horse experience that loves the journey of building a relationship. He’s going to be huge!

In addition to a new year... DEFHR welcomes a new Equine Health Manager!
After five years at the helm, Lynn is returning to her equine veterinary technician roots. Many of you have expressed appreciation for the impact Lynn has had on your time in the barn, and I’m certain you join us in wishing her the best!
Soon will be welcoming our new equine health manager, Bliss Bohuslav! She comes to us with an extensive work history in both the human and veterinary medicine fields, which, coupled with her passion for horses, and experience as a farm manager, made her our standout candidate! We will share more about her in upcoming newsletters, but we wanted to provide a brief introduction so you’re prepared to meet her in the barn!

Spring Field Trips
