It’s been a HOT summer and we so appreciate your hard work!
Scenes from an impactful field trip day with a group of students from Unified Efforts Inc, an after school program whose mission is to provide children with sustainable peaceable solutions in Baltimore. Our volunteers and staff facilitated wonderful learning opportunities, including a Liberty Performance from Zillow and Trainer Leigha!
Half Horse, Half Donkey, FULL of personality!
Night Ninja, known around the barn as ‘Ninja’ is this months Horse Spotlight! Ninja is a hinny, which means the is the offspring of a female donkey and a male horse. Fun fact: this is different from a mule, which is an offspring of a female horse and a male donkey. Ninja is small in stature, but has a big personality! DEFHR Trainer Leigha recently started working with Ninja, starting him under saddle, and he is loving his new ‘job’! Ninja has been enjoying rides around the farm and learning new skills. He will be available for adoption soon, and we are looking forward to all the future has in store for Ninja!
Our interns are heading back to their prospective college’s with head’s full of knowledge, and boots full of dirt!
August marks the end of another wonderful Summer Internship Program. Visit our website to learn more about upcoming internship opportunities.

As part of our commitment to education and outreach, we host field trip days for up to 60 students. The 2 hour event consists of students rotating between different stations, including: an educational talk, a tour of our facilities, a riding/groundwork demo, grooming and leading. These opportunities would not be possible without our volunteers! As a field trip volunteer you are assigned to lead a station to help facilitate a wonderful experience and foster compassion for horses in the next generation!
Tis the season of the grass and weeds growing at record speeds. Looking for a way to reconnect with nature and let the world slip away for a few hours? BYOWW (bring your own weed whacker), or grab one of ours, and help us tidy up our public areas, fence lines and paddocks when you’re on the farm.

We have had a blast educating over 100 campers ages 7-17 at Legacy Camp this summer. From “large animal rescue” (pictured above) to becoming “vets for a day”, they have grown their knowledge, empathy and love for horses.
* FYI Pegasus is a fiber glass educational tool and NOT a real horse.
Drink up! Drink up! $1 from $1 from each pint supports each pint supports DEFHR horses! DEFHR horses!
Encourage friends, family and neighbors to sign up for a subscription box for peakseason fresh local produce. Each week you’ll receive a variety of fruits, veggies and herbs-hand selected by the farmer himself. A great way to support the farm, an the environment all while enjoying fresh veggies!
Thanks to YOUR generous support, our education and outreach programs are growing fast! We’re in need of an additional vehicle to help support that growth.
Access to a safe, reliable vehicle-nothing fancy, just dependable-would make a meaningful difference in our ability to keep programs running smoothly, provide hands-on learnng opportunities and continue serving the horses and community we deeply care about.
