Check tout

Have you checked out the new San Jacinto Pond on 8th St and Luella?

A detention pond is a man-made basin designed to help control flooding It helps protect the area in which it is located, as well as downstream areas, by storing stormwater runoff for a limited amount of time and releasing it slowly In addition to flood control, detention ponds help keep some of the contaminants from reaching natural bodies of water Stormwater is a significant source of water pollution in the US Unlike wastewater, stormwater is not treated It all ends up in local waterways like bayous and eventually the ocean Screens placed on the outlet of the pond retain large pieces of trash and debris, while slowly allowing the water to move through and further reduce contaminants

Ways You Can Help Reduce Contaminants

Don't wash your vehicle in the street or driveway Take it to a car wash!

Don't put grass clippings in the storm drainage system Bag your clippings! Pick up after your pets Place all pet waste bags with your regular trash

Don't dispose of oil, fat, grease, or paint in the storm drainage system
