ShelterAppreciationWeek

National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week in 2024 will be November 3–9 The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) organizes the week-long event to honor the staff and volunteers who work at animal shelters. Animal shelters are in place for rabies and other disease control as well as vital resources for communities, providing a second chance for stray animals and reuniting lost pets with their owners.

Adopt a shelter pet. They will love you for life. The Deer Park Animal Shelter and Adoption Center is located at 4221 Luella Avenue. Dogs and cats are available for adoption after a holding period of three working days There is a $50 adoption fee, and you must schedule for the spaying or neutering of the animal as well as a rabies vaccination, with a veterinarian of your choice, within the recommended time span For more information, please contact the Animal Shelter at 281-478-7274 The adoption center is open from 8AM-5PM, Monday through Friday, and from 10AM-2PM on Saturday.

DrugTakeBack–November16,2024

The Deer Park Police Department will hold Drug Take Back in our parking lot at 2911 Center Street on Saturday, November 16, 2024, from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm We will be accepting sharps as well as vape pens with the batteries removed.

If you can’t make this date, we always have a Drug Drop Box in our lobby. (No liquids allowed.)

TheShepherdProgramforAlzheimer’sand Autism

The Deer Park Police Department offers a free program that collects critical information on citizens diagnosed with Alzheimer's and Autism as they are more likely to wander and at increased risk if they go missing.

Applications for the Shepherd Program are available in the lobby and online at https://www.deerparktx.gov/455/ShepherdProgram . Information collected may be used to issue a Silver Alert or Endangered Missing Person alert in the event of a missing person report.

VacationHouseCheckProgram

Residents may request a residence check by completing a House Check Form if they plan to be away from home between 3 and up to 30 days. During the check, a police department employee performs a visual check of the residence for clear signs of burglary, criminal mischief, or other crimes. The police department keeps a log of each check which may be provided to the resident upon request.

Thinkingoftravelingduringtheholidays? Whetheryou’retravelingnearbyorafar,make sureyoukeepsafetyinmind.Herearesome tipsforsafetraveling.

- Research your destination before you arrive. Know the location of the closest hospital and the phone number for emergency services.

- Avoid carrying large amounts of cash with you. Carry small amounts of cash and only a few credit cards, with the necessary identification.

- Do your best to "blend in" with the locals. Try not to draw attention to yourself or look like a tourist.

- Keep digital copies of your important documents, such as your passport and driver’s license.

- Make sure your close friends and/or family know your destination of travel. Check in with them frequently during the trip, and inform them when you return home.

- Avoid logging into your bank or credit card accounts when using the public Wi-Fi. Internet hackers may be able to steal your personal information, via unprotected public networks.

- Exercise situational awareness Be aware of your surroundings

- Avoid posting about your travel on your social media platform until you return home

If you reside in Deer Park and plan to be out of town for at least three (3) days, the Deer Park Police Department can check on your house while you’re gone. All you have to do is fill out a Vacation House Check form on our city website or in-person at the Records Division at 2911 Center St.
