SAN JACINTO BATTLEGROUND

On March 1st from 7 to 9 AM, head to the grounds early for Birdwatching at the Battleground, then stick around from 11 AM to 3 PM to learn about 19th century ammo and make a cartridge box at San Jacinto Family Day.

Bike the battleground on March 8th from 7 to 9 AM for Cycling Saturday and stay to see a live demonstration of spinning and weaving courtesy of the Bay Area Weavers and Spinners from 10 AM to 1 PM

On March 11th from 2:30 to 3:30 PM, we invite people living with memory loss and their caretakers to join us for our SPARK! Program- Frontier Fun: Games of the Frontier At this themed program, guests will with classic frontier games like draughts, dominoes, faro, pick up sticks, and other merriments! Participants will also get to enjoy a special display of historic toys courtesy of the San Jacinto Museum.

Need something to do during Spring Break? On March 12th, handle non-firing replica weapons like the ones used at the Battle of San Jacinto at our Black Powder Weapon Touch Table from 12 to 3 PM Don’t worry- they’re not real!

On March 13th, learn about frontier medicine at our Frontier Medicine Touch table from 12 to 3 PM.

Finally, on March 14th from 12 to 3 PM, try your hand at writing with a quill and ink- it’s harder than you’d think!

Enjoy the thrill of black powder arms demonstrations on March 15th from 1 to 2:30 PM at Fire! Arms Demo

View images of the battleground throughout the years and make a photographic memory of your own on March 16th at Picture Yourself at San Jacinto from 12 to 3 PM

Learn about Texan foraging and how to find and identify wild edible plants with Dr. Mark “Merriwether” Vorderbruggen of Foraging Texas from 9 AM to 12 PM on March 29th. Finally, end the month with a bang on March 30th at our Boom! Cannon Demo from 1 to 2:30 PM!
