According to NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), the interior of a vehicle can heat up by 40 degrees Fahrenheit in just 30 minutes. This reason alone is why young children and pets should not be left unattended in a vehicle, especially when the vehicle is turned off
Each year, many children die from heatstroke after being left in a hot vehicle. Statistics in 2025 with noheatstroke.org, showed that children left in a hot vehicle led to 33 deaths in America. In 2026, there has already been 12 reported heatstroke related child deaths, as of midJuly On average, 37 children under the age of 15 years of age, die each year from heatstroke after being left in a hot vehicle. These heatstroke related child deaths are 100% preventable, if parents and caregivers would remember to check the backseats of their vehicles before they exit.
