Membership Renewal Program

New in 2026, the PTC will be moving forward with a brand-new program designed to make the membership renewal process easy and more efficient. When you receive your renewal letter this year, you will be asked to place a credit card number on file. Your renewal fee will be deducted upon your anniversary month. An annual charge, this new streamlined process will be coordinated through the PTC and supervised by the Deerfield Park District Finance Department.

ACES: Support for Family Caregivers

Some of us land in the unplanned driver’s seat as caregiver for a loved one. It can be a dark and twisty road. You don’t have to navigate it alone. Visit our ACES Family Support Group to learn about resources and information on relevant topics and share experiences with others on the same journey. You’ll be glad you did! We have a dynamic group waiting to welcome you. Studies show caregivers reduce their stress, enjoy improved health, and provide better care when part of a support community. ACES meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month from 1—2:30 in the PTC Library. All family caregivers of older adults are welcome—and it’s FREE. Coming up, we will be celebrating National Family Caregiver Month with some retuning alumni! Note: ACES will not be meet Nov. 25, the day before Thanksgiving. Savings via Benefit Access

If you are age 65+ (or totally disabled) and have income less than $33,562 (single) or $44,533 (couple), you can apply for the Illinois Benefit Access Program that will save money on your license plate renewal sticker and demonstrates your eligibility for the Senior RIDES FREE transit card! All applications must be submitted online. You can do it yourself on the Illinois Department on Aging’s website. PTC members can also make an appointment with Margie for assistance too!

SOWN Discussion Group

The Supportive Older Women’s Network creates a family of friends among women living alone who are looking for mutual support and upbeat meaningful discussions. The group is led by professional Robbie Boudreau and meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month from 1:00pm to 2:30pm. For more information, please call Robbie at: 847-7218414.

SHIP-Medicare Questions Answered

Is your Medicare Supplement providing the best value and benefits to meet your needs? Would you like help in understanding the ABC and D’s of Medicare? Wonder if you are eligible for subsidies to help pay some Medicare costs? We’ve got you covered! PTC is a host site for the IL Department on Aging’s Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP), offering personalized info on all Medicare topics. Our expert volunteer counselors are ready to assist you. Call our front desk for a FREE appointment. Smart beneficiaries use SHIP because “The Best Choice is an Educated Choice!”

Medicare Open Enrollment is Near October 15 — December 7 is the window to choose your 2027 Medicare Drug or Advantage Plan. Having the right plan will assure your needs are covered--and at the best price. You can do it yourself online using the Medicare.gov Plan Finder. If you’d like assistance, our SHIP counselors will do it for you. Make your appointment NOW! Bring your current prescription info (name, dose, frequency) and your Medicare ID log in info. This FREE service is by appointment only, and our slots always fill up. Don’t just sit there, get cracking! Call the PTC Front Desk 847-940-4010.

Lending Closet

PTC lends up to a 60 day basis of medial equipment. This service is available to members and residents of Deerfield, Riverwoods, Bannockburn and Lincolnshire. Items such as wheelchairs, walkers, canes, commodes, and bath benches, are generally available. Please call 847-940-4010 prior to your visit for equipment availability.

Transportation Options Need a ride? Our area is fortunate to have many local governmentsupported (meaning very affordable!) options. Each has its own eligibility criteria and meets different needs. The two most widely used and personalized are the Village of Deerfield Taxi Program (847-945-5000) and the Township “Going Places” wheelchair accessible van (847-945-0614). Another, Ride Lake County (1-800-201-6446) is less personalized but has the widest boundaries, serving the entire county. Local non-profit Partners in Aging, formerly Faith In Action, (847-721-8414) offers some escorted transportation. Call around to learn about each and find the one that best suits your need. Many folks use all of them!

Did you know there is a small fund available to assist lower income older adults to pay a portion of their membership and program fees at the Patty Turner Center? The GrandFriends Fund was originated and is supported by the fundraising efforts of the students at Caruso Middle School. See Margie for eligibility.

Pop Up Purse Bingo

Join Frances Murphy, certified sound healer, for a guided sound bath where you will hear and feel the sounds and vibrations of crystal singing bowls, crystal singing pyramid, chimes, and other sound instruments “wash” over you. Experience rest, relaxation, or a soothing meditative state. Allow the release of stuck energies or emotions as Frances plays the sound instruments. Everyone’s experience is different, but most find it a form of stress relief. In this, 4- week Wednesday evening class, David Shamrock will cover the bottom-line basics of guitar playing. Each week, students will learn a new element associated with guitar playing. We will learn: tuning, holding and strumming, basic cowboy chords and group play. This 4-week one -hour class is for those who have always wanted to try playing but never did. DECEMBER PROGRAMS A Holiday Tea at Agatha Christie’s House Join us for a holiday tea as award-winning crime fiction author Lori Rader-Day discusses her Agatha Award-wining historical novel, Death at Greenway. Death at Greenway is a murder mystery whose setting is based on a true story of how Agatha Christie’s beloved holiday home, Greenway House, was used during WWII to harbor a group of children evacuated from London. Payment Total GENERAL WAIVER & RELEASE - IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The Deerfield Park District is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in a safe manner and holds the safety of participants in high regard. The Deerfield Park District continually strives to reduce such risks and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions that are designed to protect the participants’ safety. However, participants and parents/guardians of minors registering for this program/activity must recognize that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreational activities. You are solely responsible for determining if you or your minor child/ward are physically fit and/or skilled for the activities contemplated by this agreement. It is always advisable, especially if the participant is pregnant, disabled in any way, or recently suffered an illness, injury or impairment, to consult a physician before undertaking any physical activity.

WARNING OF RISK

Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice, conditioning and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity/program. Understandably, not all hazards and dangers can be foreseen. Participants must understand that certain risks, dangers and injuries due to acts of God, inclement weather, slipping, falling, equipment failure, in supervision, premises defects and all other circumstances inherent to recreational activities/programs exist. In this regard, it must be recognized that it is impossible for the Deerfield Park District to guarantee absolute safety.

WAIVER AND RELEASE OF ALL CLAIMS AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK

Please read this form carefully and be aware that in signing up and participating in this program/ activity, you will be expressly assuming the risk and legal liability and waiving and releasing all claims for injuries, damages or loss which you or your minor child/ward might sustain as a result of participating in any and all activities connected with and associated with this program/activity (including transportation services, when provided). I recognize and acknowledge that there are certain risks of physical injury to participants in this program/activity, and I voluntarily agree to assume the full risk of any and all injuries, damages or loss, regardless of severity, that my minor child/ward or I may sustain as a result of said participation. In the event of an emergency, I authorize District officials to secure from any licensed hospital physician, and/or medical personnel any treatment deemed necessary for me or my minor child’s immediate care. Participants and parents/guardians of minor participants are solely responsible for any and all expenses associated with emergency medical treatment, including but not limited to, transportation services to the nearest available medical facility/provider or to an alternative medical facility/provider requested by the participant or parent/guardian. I further agree to waive and relinquish all claims I or my minor child/ward may have (or accrue to me or my child/ward) as a result of participating in this program/activity against the Deerfield Park District, including its officials, agents, volunteers, and employees (hereinafter collectively referred to as “Deerfield Park District”). I do hereby fully release and forever discharge the Deerfield Park District from any and all claims for injuries, damages or loss that my minor child/ ward or I may have or which may accrue to me or my minor child/ward, arising out of, connected with, or in any way associated with this program/activity.

I have read and fully understand the above important information, warning of risk, assumption of risk and waiver and release of all claims. If registering a minor participant, I further attest that I have read the above to my minor child/ward.
