DEERFIELD PARK DISTRICT BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Dear Neighbors, As the days grow shorter and the colors of fall begin to emerge, we are excited to welcome you to another season filled with recreation, community connections, and memorable experiences with the Deerfield Park District. This year, we’re proud to celebrate the Deerfield Park District’s 75th Anniversary. Join us for a special celebration and turn to page 3 to learn more about this milestone.

From seasonal family traditions and youth programs to fitness opportunities and special events, there is something for everyone to enjoy this fall.

This season offers a wide variety of ways to stay active and engaged. As cooler temperatures arrive, the Sachs Recreation Center remains the perfect destination for fitness, wellness, and recreation. Whether you’re looking to join a group exercise class, work with a personal trainer, swim laps, or take advantage of our expansive fitness floor, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to support your health and wellness goals.

Our fall special events lineup is packed with exciting experiences for all ages. We close out summer with exciting events in late August, including Bark in the Park at Jaycee Dog Park, Rock the Night Concert at Patty Turner Center, and Yoga & Mimosa at Patty Turner Center. October brings many community favorites, including Spooky Ceramics at Jewett Park Community Center, Adult/Tot Luminaries: Pumpkin Edition, B-5 Family Bingo, Charming Charcuterie, Yoga & Puppies, RoboThink’s Demolition Bots Workshop, Halloween Hoopla Family Fun Fest at Sachs Recreation Center, Patty Turner Center’s Grand Oktoberfest celebration, Edible Haunted Houses, and Puzzling for Prizes. These annual traditions offer something for everyone to enjoy.

As we move into November, we’re excited to offer a variety of unique programs and events, including Fruit Rocketships at Jewett Park Community Center, the Patty Turner Center’s annual Veterans Pancake Breakfast & Musical Salute, the K-Pop Star Dance Party, and the return of the Field of Honor tribute event. November 9–13, 2026, thousands of American flags will fill Jewett Park in a moving tribute to veterans, active military personnel, first responders, and other hometown heroes. Each sponsored flag honors an individual and their story, creating a meaningful experience for all who visit. Proceeds from the event benefit the Midwest Veterans’ Closet and Lake County Honor Flight.

The holiday season arrives in December with festive programs and events for all ages, including our annual Noon Year’s Eve celebration at Sachs Recreation Center. It’s the perfect way for families to ring in the new year together with fun activities, entertainment, and plenty of excitement before the clock strikes noon.

We invite you to explore this guide and discover all the opportunities waiting for you this season. Whether you’re participating in a favorite tradition, discovering a new hobby, celebrating our 75th Anniversary, or connecting with neighbors, we hope you’ll join us for a fall filled with recreation, wellness, and community spirit.

PARK DISTRICT BOARD MEETINGS

The Deerfield Park District, a municipal governing agency established to provide parks, recreation facilities, and programs for residents, is governed by five elected commissioners who set general policies.

Regular Board Meetings are held at 7:00 PM on the third Thursday of each month at Jewett Park Community Center.

Workshop Meetings take place on the first Thursday of the month at 7:00 PM, as needed.

The public is encouraged to attend. Any schedule changes are posted at Jewett Park Community Center and online.

GREAT THINGS ARE HAPPENING IN DEERFIELD! 2026 SOUTHEAST JEWETT PARK PLAYGROUND REPLACEMENT As part of the District’s capital replacement program for playgrounds, the lower level playground located in the southeast area of Jewett Park near Jewett Park Community Center was identified for replacement, with project planning and community input taking place throughout the spring and summer of 2025.

Construction began in fall 2025, and the new playground officially opened to the public in May 2026 where it is already being enjoyed by families throughout the community. The playground was intentionally designed for all ages and including additional swings, synthetic turf surfacing and a unique treehouse and nature-themed design that compliments the park’s established oak trees.

The new layout also incorporates an embankment slide connecting the upper and lower levels, along with improved accessibility features including an upper bridge, lower sidewalk connections and accessible synthetic turf surfacing throughout the site

Reserve one of our beautiful parks and enjoy full access to playgrounds, shelters and other amenities.

• Rates apply to individuals, non-profits and corporate groups.

• One permit is valid for a four-hour reservation and may be issued between 7am-9pm.

Permits reserve the pavilion only.

• Please note that there is only emergency lighting at Brickyards, Maplewood, and Woodland Parks. Please plan your outing time accordingly.

• Alcoholic beverages are not permitted.

• Items such as bounce houses and DJs are not allowed.

• Permits will be available March 1 for residents and April 1 for non-residents.

• Permits are required for gatherings April 1 - October 31.

• Last date for park permits is October 31.

• Permits are non-refundable/non-transferable.

Discover the perfect rental space at the Patty Turner Center. Our beautiful facility offers various spaces designed to fit your needs, whether it’s a small meeting, luncheon, shower, or a larger banquet for weddings, celebrations, and community gatherings. Audio-visual equipment and staging are available. Rentals are available days, nights, and weekends. Whether you are just starting out or are an accomplished player, our 18-hole course, practice range, and learning center are sure to meet your golfing needs. Mitchell Pool features include a 6-lane, 25-meter pool that ranges in depth from 2 to 5 feet deep, with an ADA accessible ramp. A 12-foot 6-inch separate diving well has 1-meter & 3-meter diving boards and a drop slide. A separate wading pool includes zero depth entry, geysers, water cannons, a slide and more! Deerspring Pool is a 6-lane, 50-meter Olympic-size pool with ADA accessible stairs and a portable accessible chair lift, that ranges from 3 to 5 feet deep then progresses to an 11-foot 9-inch deep diving well with a 1-meter diving board, drop slide, water slide and a separate zero depth wading pool. Deerspring Pool also features a new sprayground equipped with slides and a variety of fun and interactive ground level and up above spray features.

Before and After School Club Information A non-refundable, non-transferrable $200 deposit is due upon registration. Tuition for the full school year may be paid in full or in two installments. Installments are due when registering and January 8, 2027.

Before and After School Club enrollment limits are based on room size and staff availability for each school. * No class dates: All District 109 holidays or non-attendance days ** 3-Day Participant days of attendance will be chosen closer to the start of school but must remain consistent for the school year. ***BSC/ASC will be canceled if District 109 implements a late start/after school activity cancellation due to weather.

Before School Club 2026-2027 Time: 7:00-8:25AM Grade: K-5 The Deerfield Park District is excited to be offering Before School Club for kindergarten through fifth grade students at District 109 schools.

A non-refundable, non-transferable $200 deposit is due at the time of registration. Tuition for the full school year may be paid in full or in two installments. Installments are due when registering and January 8, 2027. The first installment is $605.77 for 3-day and $986.40 for 5-day.

Griffin Science & Industry Museum

America’s Action Territory in Kenosha, Wisconsin is a high-energy entertainment center featuring go-karts, laser tag, mini golf, and a large arcade. The Juniors Strikers program introduces players to the fun and excitement of the world’s most popular sport, soccer. This class uses age-appropriate games and drills to promote motor skills and familiarity with a soccer ball. Skateboarding Lessons Private skateboarding lessons at the new Deerfield Park District skatepark are available from the Asylum Skatepark. The instructors are ISCPD/SKATZ certified and teach high quality lessons in a sustained and progressive way. This is also a great leadership development program where children learn the fundamentals and safety of skateboarding.

YOUTH & TEEN SPORTS Basketball Clinic 101 Develop early basketball skills such as shooting, dribbling and passing, along with the basic rules of the game. All instruction is game/drill oriented with mini games and scrimmages played every week. This class is for the basketball beginner looking to understand the game, learn new skills and have fun!

First and Second Grade Basketball Leagues This program is an introductory basketball league. Each session will be 75 minutes each Saturday. There will be a 15-minute practice followed by a game. The games will be 4 quarters, 6 minutes in each quarter.

There will be a time-out/substitution after 3 minutes to ensure all kids have equal playing time. The volunteer coaches will be on the court teaching the kids. Emphasis will be on developing skills such as dribbling, shooting and passing. We will also work on teamwork and playing as a team. Soccer Skills Clinic 101

Junior Flag Football League

Players are introduced to the fundamentals of soccer tactics such as passing the ball, offensive moves, defensive moves, keeping/controlling the ball and taking the ball away from the opposing team. Players learn to score and prevent goals. Physical endurance and fitness are emphasized while touching the ball. At this age, the focus starts to change from simple games to organized, tactical, competitive games.

The Junior Flag Football League provides participants with knowledge of introductory offensive and defensive football strategy. Each participant learns the basics of the game with the opportunity to put their skills and knowledge to use in a positive competitive environment. This league provides an excellent opportunity for young players interested in pursuing competitive outdoor football to learn the skills of the game.

NEW SWIM SEASON SCHEDULE NEW for the 2026-2027 School Year! COHO will now conduct registration that follows the USA Swimming Seasons.

All COHO families are required to set up an account on GOMOTIONSE on our COHO website. Through this account you will be billed fees for any swim meets and/or social events you sign up for during the season. Current Swim Meet Schedule. If your swimmer is new to the team you will be sent a link to set up your account after your swimmer has registered for COHO.

Short Course Season: September 2026-Feburary 2027

Since COHO is a USA Swimming chartered club, all swimmers must register annually with USA Swimming. This registration is renewed every fall directly through USA Swimming. For the 2025-26 season this fee is $91.00. To better understand our fees see the refund policy, click here to read the COHO Refund Policy.

Payment Plans will now be offered to help break up the total fees.

COHO Age Group Programs

Our Developmental Program (Minnows, Chinook, and Sharks) is designed to bridge the gap between swim lessons and competitive swimming. This program focuses on introductory concepts in streamlining, posture, bodyline, balance, breathing, and improving body awareness in the water. Emphasis is placed on learning basic competitive skills, developing positive self-esteem, making friends, and having fun! An additional USA Swimming registration fee is required for this level.

Within our Age Group Program, we offer 4 competitive levels for swimmers ages 6-14. Our competitive levels (White, Blue, Red, and Black) are designed to build on the basic elements of competitive swimming, teaching swimmers goal setting, advanced stroke technique, and racing strategies. Swimmers will have requirements to move up within this structure that mixes attendance, test sets, and achievement at swim meets. An additional USA Swimming registration fee is required for these levels.

COHO Masters Programs

Our Senior program offers 3 competitive levels (Bronze, Silver, and Gold) designed to advance swimmers into an elite environment where technical skills, goals, and grit are practiced daily. Swimmers at these competitive levels will have required standards that must be met to move up through the groups. Commitment to the sport is a must at these levels. ½ Season available for those who are swimming in high school swimming have either a fall or winter commitment for their high school. High School Boy Swimmers should sign up for Fall, and High School Girls should sign up for Winter. An additional USA Swimming registration fee is required for this level.

For individuals 18 and older, COHO offers a Master’s swimming program. Practices are run by a coach and designed for all levels. Masters do not need to pay the USA Swimming membership fee or the COHO club fee. If interested in competing in Masters Meets, a yearly membership with US Masters must be purchased on your own. Practices are at Deerfield High School, typically on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:45-9:15 pm and on Sundays from 8:00-9:30 am. You may register to participate up to 3 times per week (Section 03), up to 2 times per week (Section 02), or 1 time per week (Section 01).

YOUTH GOLF Intro To Junior Golf

Deerfield Prep Golf Class

Intro to Golf is our introduction to golf with our youngest junior golfers.

The class will explore the fundamentals of the game in an interactive, fun, and simple way. The program will help the kids experience golf through a series of athletic drills, games, and activities. Our team of US Kids Certified Golf Instructors will use SNAG Golf equipment to keep the kids engaged and on task. Students will be introduced to the basics of putting, chipping, full swing, and the concept of playing a golf hole. This class is designed for an adult to accompany the child for each session, and this is a requirement.

Our Deerfield Prep Class is the next step for our junior golfers that have participated in our Sunday morning junior golf classes. Our goal for our Prep golfers is to begin to play the game on the golf course and practice on their own outside of class time. Our PGA Professionals will continue to focus on skill development in all areas of the game to build a strong foundation of fundamentals to help golfers develop their game and their confidence. Our Deerfield Prep Program is designed to be a steppingstone for our junior golfers to eventually play on our Deerfield Travel Team which will introduce competitive events.

Deerfield Junior Golf Academy Travel Team The Deerfield Junior Golf Academy Travel Team is a steppingstone for those junior golfers that are ready to learn to play competitive golf.

The goal of this program is to prepare team members for competitive situations that they will face in IJGA events, and eventually on their high school team. In addition to the two weekly team practices, our players will compete in a series of nine-hole matches as part of the North Shore Junior Golf Tour.

• Our travel teams meet for practice two times per week throughout the season (Tuesday & Thursday 4-5pm). Each practice will focus on skill development through a series of competitive drills and exercises led by our professional staff.

• Participants in this class MUST have experience playing and keeping an actual score.

This series of classes is designed for new golfers to learn the game in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Our team of professionals will teach the fundamentals of putting, chipping, pitching, bunker play, and full swing.

NO TEAM REQUESTS ACCEPTED. • Skill evaluations (not try-outs) are run for the purpose of distributing talent as evenly as possible throughout the league. As much as we try, this is not a scientific process.

• Every player should plan on attending their assigned skill evaluation time listed below on Thursday, November 5 or Saturday, November 7.

VOLUNTEER COACHES

Volunteer coaches’ staff all our youth basketball league teams. You must be 18 years old or older to coach. The basketball program is one that requires a lot of energy from a thoughtful, creative, concerned group of volunteer coaches comprised of parents and other adults who love sports and instructing children.

You have a unique opportunity to make a difference in a child’s life.

For every player, the coach is the single most important adult leader.

Effective coaches fully support a positive youth sports philosophy in their attitude and behavior at practice, games and events. You will help the players learn skills, discuss fair play and most of all, have fun.

Look at coaching as an opportunity not only to teach sports skills, but also to achieve something far more significant –helping children reach their full potential.

Q: Do I have to attend the skill evaluation if I have been in the league before?

Everyone in the league should attend the evaluation in order to accurately divide up the teams. Even if you have played in the past season because players may improve and/or grow in the off season.

Q: Can I be on a team with my Friends?

The park district does not accept friendship requests in the spirit of competition.

Q: On what days will my child play?

There will be one practice during the week, with a game on Saturday. When signing up you will be asked to fill out a player information sheet which includes days your child is available to best accommodate you.

Q: What should I do if I have a conflict with the practice time?

If you have a conflict with your practice day then you can contact the Athletics Supervisor and request a change to a different practice day.

Q: If I am unable to attend a practice or game who should I contact?

If you are unable to attend a practice or a game, contact the head coach of your team.

Q: If the weather is bad how do I know if the practice/game is on?

If there is bad weather your coach will contact you and let you know if there will be practice. However, you may also call the sports hotline, 847-317-2555.

Sound Bath Join Frances Murphy, certified sound healer, for a guided sound bath where you will hear and feel the sounds and vibrations of crystal singing bowls, crystal singing pyramid, chimes, and other sound instruments “wash” over you. Experience rest, relaxation, or a soothing meditative state. Allow the release of stuck energies or emotions as Frances plays the sound instruments. Dealing with Holiday Stress

In this, 4- week Wednesday evening class, David Shamrock will cover the bottom-line basics of guitar playing. Each week, students will learn a new element associated with guitar playing. The committees serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of Park Commissioners. Members meet alongside staff and a park board commissioner to study and review the operational components of park district affiliate groups, Deerspring and Mitchell Pools, the Sachs Recreation Center and the Deerfield Golf Club & Learning Center and make recommendations to the Park Board based on their findings and research. Committee members are appointed to 3-year terms and meet three to four times a year.

You may register online for most activities. Web registration is quick and convenient. You can view real time availability and save time!

First time registering online?

Please scan or click for information on how to create a Household Account. Please note: some classes/camps have a numerical "grade" requirement. (Preschoolers are .25 and Kindergartners are .5.) If your child does not have a grade or has the incorrect grade listed in your household account, please contact the Registration Desk 847-945-0650 and they will be happy to make the correction/addition.

If you select a class and it’s full, you will be put on a waiting list. We will notify you of all class placements, cancellations, and/or changes.

Who is eligible?

Any household with a valid email address is eligible to register online.

For Deerfield Park District residents to receive resident rates, proof of residence is required.

What programs are available?

The majority of park district programs are available online, with a few exceptions. These are usually programs that require tryouts, prerequisites or prior instructor approval.

Will I know right away if I get in?

Yes. Online registration works in real time, so, as soon as you complete the payment process and get a confirmation email your enrollment is confirmed. If a class is full, you may join the wait list online.

PROGRAM CANCELLATION

PLEASE REGISTER EARLY. If enough participants are not registered, classes may be canceled. Those waiting until the last minute or for the first day of class may find it’s too late.

REGISTRATION FORMS

Registration forms can be downloaded from https://deerfieldparks. org/226/Forms. Forms are also available at any of our facilities.

People who live within the boundaries of the Deerfield Park District always have first priority in our registration process. However, having a Deerfield address does not always mean that you are a resident of our Park District. Program brochures are typically sent to the 60015 zip code, but this can include areas that are not part of the Deerfield Park District.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Financial assistance may be available to assist Deerfield Park District residents who are experiencing difficulty paying program fees. For more information call 847-945-0650.

RESIDENT & SPECIAL SCHOOL DISTRICT #109 AND #113 RATES Resident rates will apply to those who live within the park district boundaries. If a participant does not live within the park district boundaries but enrolls in a program that is held at a District 109 or 113 school and they reside in that school district, then they pay the resident rate, but cannot begin to register until the non-resident registration date.

PROOF OF RESIDENCY

To receive “Resident” rates and priority in registration, you are required to show proof of residency your first time enrolling for a Deerfield Park District program or activity. Once your household has done this you will not need to repeat the process. This procedure ensures district residents receive priority in enrolling for high-demand activities, and discounted prices. A Deerfield mailing address does not guarantee park district Resident status — this is based on property tax boundaries.

REGISTRATION STEPS

Proof of Residency includes BOTH: • A current residential utility bill (gas, electric, or water, no phone bills are accepted) with your name stating your mailing address and service address as being the same.

• Read the registration form carefully and fill it out completely, including class names, activity code numbers and sections.

• A valid driver’s license or other government-issued photo identification containing your current address.

• Once a registration form is turned in, it cannot be changed.

Documentation may be: • Securely uploaded to the Registration website (after your online account has been activated).

• When registering, provide details about medical condition(s) that require staff attention.

• If you fax in your form, please do not send a duplicate by mail.

• Payment may be made by check or Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express credit cards.

• Do not use cash if you drop off registrations in the drop-off box.

• An adult participant, parent or guardian must sign the waiver on the bottom of the registration form. It is mutually understood that the fax registration document, including the waiver and release of all claims, shall substitute for and have the same legal effect as the original form.

IMPROPER REGISTRATION

Those who register for our programs and improperly use a Deerfield address are removed from the class and no refund or transfer fee is provided. Non-residents pay a higher fee per program. Non-resident fees are shown second in program descriptions. Note: Non-residents are not eligible for resident fees even if their caretaker, provider or relative resides in Deerfield.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION CONTRIBUTIONS TO SCHOLARSHIPS

Voluntary contributions to the Deerfield Park Foundation for our Scholarship Fund can be made on the registration form. The fund is used for people who are in serious financial need, to participate in park district programs. The Board of Park Commissioners has a policy that no person will be denied access to recreation programs or facilities because of an inability to pay fees. Please know that the program is strictly confidential and is closely monitored by the Director of Recreation. We appreciate your support.

REFUNDS FOR RECREATION PROGRAMS

• A refund may be obtained seven business days prior to the first day of a program. A 10% service charge ($10 minimum) will be deducted from the amount paid for the program. If the refund is requested less than seven business days prior to the class start date it can only be credited to the household account less the 10% service charge ($10 minimum).

• Refunds/credits requested on or after the program start date will not be honored.

• Refunds/credits will not be issued for one day programs, workshops, special events, school’s out trips or theater tickets.

• If a program is rescheduled, relocated, or changed by the park district, a full refund will be issued if requested by the participant.

• Refunds will be issued if a program is canceled or closed by the park district.

SERVICES FOR RESIDENTS WITH DISABILITIES Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association (NSSRA)

facilitates year-round recreation programs and services for children, teens, and adults with disabilities who live in 13 northern suburban communities, including Deerfield. With nearly 500 recreation, sport, cultural, and social offerings throughout the year, we specialize in introducing participants to new experiences, providing opportunities for skill development and leisure time, and, most importantly, creating space for friendships to thrive.

Services We Offer NSSRA serves approximately 1,800 individuals with disabilities through our traditional and cooperative programs. Participants range in age from preschoolers, youth, and teens to young adults, adults, and seniors. Programs are offered at park district facilities, schools, and other locations throughout the northern suburbs

Inclusion Support NSSRA’s Inclusion support option provides individuals with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy participation in Deerfield programs while receiving the individualized support they need to succeed. NSSRA staff are trained to provide the necessary accommodations to help participants succeed in programs. This not only benefits individuals with disabilities but also enhances the overall experience for all participants, creating a more inclusive and welcoming environment.

PARK DISTRICT PHILOSOPHY

The Park Board recognizes the need to provide and maintain sufficient and attractive parks, open space, recreation facilities and programs to serve equitably, and without prejudice, all the people of the Park District in the provision of leisure time activities.

Every opportunity shall be afforded, within financial limits, to plan, procure, develop and maintain park and recreation resources, and to provide leadership for the wholesome and constructive use of leisure time. The provisions of quality recreational services in the most efficient manner, at the least possible cost, and without significantly duplicating the efforts of other agencies, will be emphasized at all times. This includes the development of cooperative agreements with other agencies directly and indirectly involved with leisure services in the District.

The provision of recreation, park and conservation services must be considered as a positive opportunity for people of the District to share with each other, to develop leadership capacities, to learn skills for present and future enjoyment, and to emphasize responsibilities to each other as well as to the community.

KEEP OUR PARKS BEAUTIFUL

To provide safe, healthy and aesthetically pleasing parks, we engage in the limited use of lawn care products as part of an integrated pest management program. A one-time annual application of herbicide to park and school sites is usually completed between Aug. 15 – Nov. 1 of each year. We publicize the date of the application and inform the appropriate school sites and residents who have asked to be advised of this process.

PARTICIPANT CONDUCT

The following conduct code rules apply to both participants and guardians/caregivers of those children. The Deerfield Park District reserves the right to suspend, expel or deny participation in any program or facility to any person whose behavior materially interferes or disrupts the quality of those offerings, the enjoyment of them by other participants or the ability of staff to conduct or manage the activities or facilities.

A child’s parent or guardian will be notified of the first incident; the second incident shall require the presence of a parent at a meeting with the instructor and a Park District administrator/supervisor; a third incident may result in the expulsion or suspension of the child from the program, event or facility.

If a child engages in behavior(s) which may result in bodily harm to others, an immediate meeting with the parent may be called. If such behavior warrants it, immediate suspension or expulsion may result.

Temporary suspension from participation due to misconduct will not entitle participant to a refund.

An adult shall receive one verbal or written warning. The second incident may result in suspension from the program, event or facility.

If an adult physically strikes a person or object or throws an object at another person, or takes any other action that may pose a real threat of bodily harm to others, or is verbally abusive to others, s/he may immediately be suspended or expelled from the program or facility.

PHOTO PERMISSION

Our staff or designees often take pictures or video at programs and events. Photographers from print or other media outlets may also take pictures or video on occasion. We welcome the coverage and hope you do too; it is frequently how the public learns what is happening at the Park District. If you prefer your family members’ pictures not be taken, please notify us in writing. NOTE: If you do see a photo posted to our websites or social media pages of you or your family member that you would like removed, please email marketing@deerfieldparks.org.

GENERAL INFORMATION INSURANCE

Deerfield Park District cannot assume responsibility for injuries or accidents occurring at programs, activities, parks and facilities within our jurisdiction. To do so would make our program and user fees prohibitive. Certain activities, facilities and equipment may, when used improperly, cause harm or personal injury. We make every effort to notify you of potentially dangerous situations and to provide rules for the proper use of equipment and facilities. You can avoid injury by following the rules, using good sense and being considerate of both Park District property and others using it.

EMERGENCY CLOSING

There may be times when weather, road conditions or facility malfunctions dictate that programs and/or services must be canceled, or temporarily postponed or entire facilities closed. The park district will communicate to patrons via the park district website deerfieldparks.org. Whenever School District 109 cancels school due to snow related weather conditions, all Deerfield Park District Preschool classes and all programs held at school sites will also be canceled.

Closing other park district facilities or canceling classes will be made on a case by case basis.

INFECTIOUS DISEASES, FOOD ALLERGIES, MEDICATION, ILLNESS

Infectious Diseases: To prevent the spread of communicable diseases, such as strep, pink eye and fifth’s disease, parents should report any diagnosed cases to the Park District office. If exposure to other participants occurred, a notification is sent home.

Food Allergies: Many of our preschool, as well as cooking and other classes, will serve food; therefore, it is imperative that you notify the full-time Recreation Supervisor of any food allergies or dietary restrictions your child may have.

Medication: If your child requires medication (inhaler, epi-pen, etc.) during class, medication administration forms must be completed.

Illness: Please do not attend class nor send children who are ill to class.

BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR

Please respect the rights and property of neighbors of our parks. Use public sidewalks/pathways. Drive carefully in lots, driveways and nearby streets. Trees, bushes, fences, etc., should not be used as bathrooms. Keep your dog on a leash, remain on public property, clean up pet waste, and place trash in park receptacles. To report vandalism, call the Deerfield Police Non-emergency line, 847-945-8636.

AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT

Our Park District and other public agencies are subject to the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) which prohibits discrimination in the services, programs or facilities provided to individuals with disabilities. If you believe that, in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, special assistance may be required when participating in a program, using a facility or receiving a service, please call Dana Bundy, JPCC Manager at 847-572-2624.

THORGUARD

ThorGuard Lightning Prediction Systems are installed at all parks, pools and schools in Deerfield, from April through November. Horns are tested the first Tuesday of each of these months, at 10 AM. Should you hear the horn or see the strobe light at other times—or any time lightning seems possible—be sure to seek shelter. The system is meant to warn the public that conditions are right for possible lightning danger. This system is not 100 percent accurate, as it operates on radio waves which are variable. As not every unit will go off simultaneously, the public is asked to please use common sense when conditions appear threatening, even if ThorGuard warnings are not heard or seen.

Follow these warnings for safety: • One prolonged horn blast signifies a strong lightning risk.

• The strobe light signals a continuing lightning alert condition.

• Three short horn blasts (and ceasing of strobe light illumination) signal it may be safe to return to the area, but use discretion.
