GSC "Super Teams" Meet @ GBN & GBS High School Next meet on the schedule for registered swimmers is the GSC meet at Glenbrook North hs. (2300 Shermer Rd, Northbrook) and Glenbrook South hs. (400 West Lake Ave, Glenview). The meet is January 4-6th.

One of our largest fundraisers is Laps for COHO, where our swimmers get sponsors to donate money for swimming an hour straight. Swimmers from every group participate. They have a lot of fun, earn prizes, and feel a great sense of achievement when they see just how many laps they’ve swum.

This event helps to offset the cost of: Training and Pool Equipment, Annual Awards Banquet, Ribbons, Recognition Program Prizes, Social and Team Events, Team Charter Membership, Coaches Certifications, Officials Certification. If the team raises over $20,000 they will get to push the coaches in the pool, fully clothed. In addition, each Swimmer on the age-group team (White, Blue, Red groups) that brings in over $800 gets to do a pie in the face to their lead coach at a swim practice! THIS YEAR’S PRIZES & INCENTIVES, COMING SOON! WHO: All COHO swimmers, from Minnows to Gold, new and experienced, are encouraged to participate.

PARENTS ARE NEEDED TO COUNT LAPS WHEN THEIR CHILD SWIMS. WHAT: A fun and challenging event in which swimmers complete as many laps as they can in one hour.

New this year- we are using GoFundMe team pages! We do not collect money per lap, just flat donation amounts. Parents will still need to help count laps so they will be recorded. We hope you will join us for this FUNdraiser!

WHEN: SUNDAY, JANUARY 13th @ DEERFIELD HIGH SCHOOL (time TBA) *Swimmers will all swim Laps in one session. You will be able to collect donations and earn prizes until the end of January, 2019. HS boys are not allowed to participate due to IHSA rules. HS boys will be able to make up Laps at a later date.

WHERE: Deerfield High School WHY: Help support the COHO Swim Club by sponsoring your swimmer. The day of Laps for Coho, every swimmer will receive a participation t-shirt, and may attend the Pancake Brunch!

HOW: Sign up your swimmer online on the parent portal to swim (email invites sent out soon) and sign-up on GoFundMe (email invite sent out) in order to begin your fundraising. Plan to be there with your child to help count laps. By raising money, swimmers can win cool prizes. *THERE ARE LIMITED SPACES, SO DON’T DELAY IN REGISTERING AS SOON AS YOU SEE THE EMAIL INVITE! *An email from GoFundMe to “Join the Team” and begin fundraising was sent out!. You can use your (parent) information for your swimmer. If you have multiple swimmers on the team, we can divide the donations equally, or you can let us know what amounts go to each swimmer. You will be able to send out emails and links, and will get full credit for donations to your account. You will also be able to see how your Laps for COHO fundraising is progressing! We are sorry about all the emails you may receive from GoFundMe when families join the fundraising campaign. It’s a function they are working on.

’Twas the Week Before COHO Winter Season...

‘Twas a week before winter season, when all through the pool; not a swimmer was stirring, not even from Swim School, or Minnows.

Equipment bags were all hung on the pool deck with care, and not thrown on the floor, in hopes that Coach Nancy soon would be there.

Swimmers were nestled all snug in their sweats; while visions of social kicks and swimmopoly games danced around in their heads.

Coaches Jessica and Hayley filled water bottles with jolly and cheers; as Coach Erica gave out holiday sets, she knows all the best!.

When out on the deck there arose such a clatter; Coach Mitch sprang up to see what was the matter. In through the doors he ran like a flash; tossed in the lane lines, made a big splash. The lights from above like new-fallen snow; gave the luster of midday to the water below.

When to my wondering eyes, what should come in?, but a miniature boat and eight tiny dolphins.

With a veteran swim trainer, so lively and quick; I knew in a moment it must be Coach Jacob. More rapid than reindeer his dolphins they came; he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name.

"NOW, FLIPPER! NOW, DASHER AND DANCER! NOW, PRANCER AND VIXEN! ON, COMET! ON CUPID! ON, DONNER AND BLITZEN! FLIP TURNS, STREAMLINE, DON'T BREATHE OFF THE WALL! NOW SPRINT AWAY, SPRINT AWAY, SPRINT AWAY ALL!" Next entered Coach Darron wearing a grin; he knew that his team was ready to win. Dressed in a jammer from waist to his knees; he should have known his team suit was to be worn only at the meets. There was Coach Jeff, with his dimples so merry; his cheeks were so rosy; his hair so wavey. His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow; as he shouted "I, Y, Scoop and shoot, and don’t forget your streamlining to the swimmers below.

Soon followed Coach John the strap of his goggles clenched in his teeth; the steam encircled his head just like a wreath. Right behind was Coach Taele, Her stopwatch has been ready and waiting; looking for position “11”. Next was Coach Pete, asking why you did not come to dry-land! I laughed when I saw ‘em. A wink of an eye and a nod of the head; soon gave me a hint of the number of pull-ups and squats up ahead.

Coach Todd, spoke not a word, but went straight to his task; entered the deck, and turned on his music, placing fresh workouts on kickboards for masters… “don’t get in too early” he shouted! Then came Coach Ian Wearing new goggles, his old ones got stolen right out of his office; showing good posture-line-balance, down the pool he stroked. Onto the pool deck in early morning, Coach Ana soon soared (pun intended); took the blue chalk and wrote on the board. She explained the set calmly, no need to scream; and away the kids swam like a snowy winter dream. Seeing bilateral breathing and good rotation Coach Jane gave the swimmers a standing ovation. Then I heard all of The coaches exclaim as I pushed off again;

"HAPPY WINTER SEASON TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD SWIM!"

STAY WARM THIS WINTER! The month of December is here, or as some of us like to call it “only 7 months until June arrives” While the air inside at the pool may be warm, and the water is a balmy 81 degrees… outside it’s getting a bit “different”.

BUNDLE UP SWIMMERS! A reminder to swimmers to bundle up to-and-from practices each day!

“Wet hair & cold weather don’t Go well together”

It’s the time of year that we remind everyone about wearing hats, gloves, SOCKS, SHOES, and a winter coat.

Coaches are always surprised by how many swimmers leave the pool deck after practice without dry hair, no hat, no gloves, etc…

We occasionally even see some swimmers leaving practice wearing flip flops and no socks! “Only going to the car” & “in a hurry” are our favorite excuses to hear.

We don’t want anyone getting sick… so please make sure you cover up and dress appropriately when you are coming and going to swim practice each day!

2 days, over 800 swimmers, several dozen volunteers, lots of IMX and IMReady events swum!

Thank you to everyone for all the help in organizing and running a great weekend of swimming. As usual, lots of compliments from visiting coaches, parents and officials!

The IMX format combines all the events into a score. Scores are based on a national standard of points for each event/age-group.

COHO IMX top three finishers overal: Leo Popko- first in 9 year old boys, Daniel Snitkovsky- 2nd in 9 year old boys. Edgar Rutkauskas- 3rd in 12 year old boys, Zuzanna Janusz- 3rd in 13 year old girls, and Dawid Turos- 3rd in 13 year old boys.

New Regional championship cuts by: Sarah Holzman in 10&U 200 free and 100 back, Erika Ilkiu in 11-12 500 free and 100 free, Daniel Snitkovsky in 10&U 200 free, Dawid turos in 13-14 200 fly.

New state championship cuts by: Leo Popko in 10&U 100 fly, and Daniel Snitkovsky in 10&U 200 i.m.

This meet’s shout outs go to: First to our awesome parents that worked all weekend to host a great experience for our swimmers and visiting teams!

Second shout out to all those swimmers that tried new events for the first time. Lots of new IM times, 200 free times, 500 free times, etc‌ Yes Tracey, no more 200 fly swims for you (this season), we promise!
