Nichijo directly translates to “Daily”.

We wanted to capture the beauty of Japan’s day-to-day activity within the pandemic. Through the lens of film cameras with Ilford black and white rolls.

We do not simply want to take you back to the analog era but we wanted to stimulate and spark the imagination of our audience.

With color, we could enjoy the picture as it is without having to add extra effort to understand the emotion behind the frames. However, through black and whites, we are forced to imagine what color, what time, what mood, came out from each frame. The grays could hide the earthy and warm smell of oak.

Within the whites could be a mellow golden sunset or a very calming sunrise.

The black might hide the scarlet red or deep dark blue of a retro car.

The black and whites not only spark imaginations for our audience but as a part of this exhibition, we would want you, our audience to guess by observing each frame, which pictures belong to which photographers.

私たちは、 イルフォードのモノクロロールを使ったフィルムカメラのレンズを 通してコロナ禍でも日本の 「二チジョウ」 の美しさを紹介していきたい。私た ちは、単にアナログ時代に戻りたいというだけでなく、 モノクロによって観客 の想像力を刺激したいと考えた。 カラーであれば、写真をそのまま楽しむことができ、写真一枚にある感情を 理解するために余計な努力をする必要はないだろう。 しかし、 モノクロの場合 は、 それぞれのフレームからどんな色が、 どんな時に、 どんな気分が出てくる のかを想像しなければならない。 グレーには、 もしかしたら檜の暖かさと 優しい香りを隠している。 白の中には、穏やかな夕焼けか鮮やかな朝日かどう かも簡単に区別できない。黒には、 レトロ車のスカーレットレッドかディープ ブルーを隠しているかもしれない。 さぁ、正解はもちろんフォトグラファーが わかるものだが、観客にはその質問に正解なんてひとつもないから想像して 楽しんで。 白と黒の組み合わせは、観客の想像力を刺激するだけではなく、 この展示会 に、 それぞれのフレームを観察し、 どの写真がどっちのフォトグラファーのも のであるかを当ててみないか？

Rayner Edrick Self-taught photographer, ex-Barista, and full-time worker who’ve been telling stories with film photography for the past 2 years.

Dhio Meydi Just graduated as a Master of Agriculture in Japan who gives his passion and free time for photography and visual story.

Raka Rivaldi Being a full-time system engineer during weekdays, film photography helps him escape the dullness of repetitive life itself.

Adwitiyo Purnomo Fresh graduate with a bachelor’s degree in economics and have a casual obsession with enjoying arts and photography.

—Some of my stories could get gloomy as it’s inspired from Murakami and Noda Yojiro, so enjoy it with a glass of sweet Es KopiKalyan to make it light.

少年漫画が好きな僕 「俺は絶対にお前を守る」 年取ってもかっこいい台詞と思う 昼間は古本屋立ち読みで夢中になってしまう 毎晩君が守れるヒーローに忙しいんじゃないか だから、僕のヒロインになってくれないか？

嫌いだった夏が 好きになってしまった かつて普通だった ソフトクリームも 今となってはいつも以上に 美味しく感じる

平凡かのようなと思いながら、 異なってもいる。 すれ違う人も、 使う列車も、 その日で買うペットボトルも、 何か一つは異なる。 平凡でありながらユニークな日常が私たち 実は過ごしている
