A Warm Welcome to Nower Hill High School Nower Hill is a happy, busy and highly successful 11-18 school which welcomes all children from our local community. We are here to ensure that every student achieves as much as possible during their time at our school, eventually leaving us as the best version of themselves they can possibly be. We want our students to enjoy their education so that they value learning, both in and out of the classroom, and can look back fondly on their time at Nower Hill. Our vision is to develop ‘world class’ students who are as well prepared as possible for the next stage in their life; articulate, ambitious young people with the strength of character, the confidence and the qualifications to compete in a highly competitive world. Academic Standards Nower Hill is well known for its high academic standards; this is a priority for us and our track record is one of success and improvement.

In 2025 at GCSE, 81% of students achieved a 9-4 (formerly A*- C) in English and Maths. 37% of all grades were 9-7 (formerly A*/A) and 85% of all grades were 9-4 (formerly A*- C).

At A Level, 33% of all grades were A*/A and 61% of all grades were at A*- B. These results put us in the top 10% of all schools nationally for progress.

90% of Year 13 students are going on to study at university, with many progressing to top universities, including Cambridge. Students have gained places on some of the most competitive courses including Medicine, Law, Engineering and Economics.

A number of other students have gone on to apprenticeships in a variety of specialist fields, with one student gaining places at prestigious employers including KPMG, Pfizer and Airbus.

Procedures for Admission to Nower Hill High School Applications for places at Nower Hill High School are made to The London Borough of Harrow (LBH), Civic Centre, who allocate places to all the Harrow High Schools. Nower Hill has places for a year group of 324 students in Year 7. Places at Nower Hill are oversubscribed, with a waiting list system operated by the London Borough of Harrow.

Open Mornings We will be holding Open Mornings on Monday 22nd, Tuesday 23rd, Thursday 25th and Friday 26th September 2025. Children, parents and carers will have the opportunity to hear presentations from our Headteacher, senior staff and students, followed by a tour of the school.

Steps taken to prevent disabled students being treated less favourably than other students are detailed in our Student Support Guidance and Equality Policy. Account is taken of Special Educational Needs and Disability when considering appropriate support. The curriculum aims to be accessible to all abilities and to meet the needs and interests of all students. All faculties and departments take steps to promote positive attitudes to disability. It is recognised that disability may affect behaviour; this is taken into account when dealing with incidents of unacceptable behaviour. The school takes all reasonable steps to prevent the exclusion of a student for a reason related to any disability they may have. The school fully supports students with long-term medical needs who may require additional support.

The school continues to provide facilities to assist access to the school by students with disabilities.

These include: disabled parking; ramps; improved corridor lighting; provision of lifts; handrails on steps; provision of disabled toilets; doorways widened for wheelchair access; yellow lines on steps to assist visually impaired students; braille signage; installation of rising and falling sinks in 3 laboratories; new door handles at low level; provision of specialist equipment for disabled students and making appropriate access arrangements in examinations.

Our Accessibility Plan indicates that we are committed to providing an accessible environment which values and includes all students, staff, parents and visitors, whatever their needs. We are committed to sustaining a culture of awareness, acceptance and inclusion. The school continues to seek to develop access to the physical environment of the school, adding specialist facilities as necessary.

This covers teaching and learning and the wider curriculum of the school such as participation in out-of-hours activities and school trips. It also covers the provision of special aids and equipment.

G-Suite We use G-suite as an effective online facility where students will find a wide range of resources, links to useful websites, discussion forums and homework activities organised in online classrooms. Students, parents and carers may access homework details online via Bromcom. Students may use G-suite to retrieve and submit work online and they have their own cloud storage area where they are able to store all their electronic documents, allowing access to them in or out of school. Students will also have access to school Gmail which will enable them to receive updates, personal feedback on assignments and prepare them for using email in a professional environment.

Excellent Facilities We are proud of our facilities and we are constantly striving to improve them. They include: ●​ Suites of rooms for every subject, enabling specialist teachers to each have their own classroom within a faculty suite. ●​ Every faculty has access to a computer room or sets of chromebooks in their curriculum area. ●​ A state of the art wireless network. ●​ Every teacher has a personal device or large screen. ●​ Very well developed use of G-suite which gives tailor-made online support to students to assist them in their learning. ●​ Specialist 6th Form areas and a 6th Form common room with 80 dedicated computers. ●​ 16 modern Science laboratories, nine of which have been recently refurbished. ●​ A very high quality Arts building housing Music, Drama, Dance, a Sports Hall and fitness suite for PE. ●​ Brand new state of the art PE changing rooms. ●​ Superb suite of Visual Arts studios representing an outstanding and unique learning environment, incorporating multimedia and photography utilising iMacs and PCs. ●​ An extensive Design Technology centre incorporating Food, Textiles, Graphics and Design in wood, metal and plastics. This also includes using computer aided design with our 3D printers. ●​ A large and extensive Library and Learning Resources Centre equipped with ICT facilities. ●​ A fully resourced Careers room and full time Careers Officer. ●​ A Dining Centre, recently expanded and refurbished to include multimedia displays and surround sound system, which is open before school, at break times and lunchtimes. ●​ An all-weather field.

‘Promoting mental well-being is a core aspect of the school’s work’ Ofsted Student Support High quality pastoral care is essential to our ethos. A Deputy Headteacher and three Assistant Headteachers manage all aspects of Student Support, and one Assistant Headteacher leads on Inclusion.

They lead a Student Support Team which comprises two Heads of Year for every year group in Years 7-11, each of whom leads and manages six form tutors and half of the students in the Year Group. Our Medical Suite is led by a qualified School Nurse and Welfare Assistant and we have two part time School Counsellors.

Each tutor group has 27 students and the tutor groups belong to one of six Houses. Our Houses are Gandhi, King, Shabazz, Franklin, Bannister and Nightingale and all Houses are linked to the values enshrined in The Nower Hill Way: that our students are nothing less than the most well- mannered, most articulate, best behaved, hardest working, smartest and kindest students there can be. Beyond Year 11, continued close monitoring and care for students is overseen by the Assistant Headteacher, Head of 6th Form, and the experienced tutor team in collaboration with the Deputy Head of 6th Form and Head of Year 12/13.

Excellent attendance, punctuality, self-discipline and effective personal organisation are key ingredients to high levels of success and personal fulfilment. We actively seek to give our students a variety of responsibilities including representation on the School Council, a Year 11 and 6th Form Prefect system and student Heads of Houses. Student leadership opportunities are available throughout the school to all year groups. We work to ensure that students are cared for as individuals, even though they are in a large school.

‘There are warm and friendly working relationships between teachers and pupils’ Ofsted Contact with Parents and Carers The majority of families now receive letters home electronically which allows us to send instant texts and emails. One of the many strengths of Nower Hill High School is the excellent home-school liaison. This makes Nower Hill a warm, open and welcoming school. Our G-Suite, school website, termly tracking, parents’ and carers’ evenings, the daily Student Handbook, Headteacher’s regular newsletter and the half termly ‘Nower Hill News’ all promote excellent links between the school and home. Parents and carers have up to date access to their child’s attendance and punctuality records, as well as any achievements or behaviour concerns through the Bromcom portal and ‘My Child at School App’.

To monitor and evaluate our performance, we value the opinions of families in our community. We ask families to respond to an annual questionnaire about their experience of our school. We use parental responses and opinions to inform our decisions and plan for the future. The school is also supported by our thriving Parents and Friends Association. Our Parents and Friends Committee arrange at least three social activities per year, to which all are warmly invited.

‘The pastoral support given to pupils is extensive and highly effective’ Ofsted Extracurricular Activities Nower Hill has a strong tradition of offering a wide range of extracurricular activities, including clubs, peripatetic music, interventions and revision classes, to name but a few. There is something to suit everyone, for example: Dance, Chess Club, Ancient Greek, Astronomy, Orchestra, Glee and numerous sporting activities. Nower Hill students are encouraged to enrich their studies, learn new skills and make friends by participating in our extracurricular opportunities. One of the Deputy Headteachers oversees the extracurricular offer and all activities are supervised by staff. The programme is published termly.

Trips and Visits At Nower Hill, students enjoy a wide range of exciting trips throughout their school journey. In Key Stage 3, visits to the Natural History Museum and the British Museum are highlights of the curriculum, helping to bring classroom learning to life. As they move on to GCSEs and A Levels, students deepen their knowledge and passion for their subjects through visits to inspiring destinations such as theatres, art galleries, the Houses of Parliament, the Supreme Court, and fieldwork in Biology and Geography. Beyond the classroom, students also have the opportunity to take part in a variety of international trips each year, including cultural and educational visits to Berlin, Andalucía, Greece, Iceland, and CERN in Switzerland, as well as a music tour to Prague and a ski trip to Austria. Nower Hill is also proud of the large cohort of students that complete the Duke of Edinburgh Award from Year 10, developing their independence, resilience and teamwork.

Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Policy Inclusion is in the DNA of our school. We value providing high quality Inclusion and care for all students with SEND. We have high expectations for our students with SEND to fulfil their full potential, whilst acknowledging they may need additional support along their learning journey. An Assistant Headteacher Inclusion/SENDCo leads the Inclusion team followed by two further trained SENDCos, a Key Stage 4 Inclusion teacher and a Key Stage 3 Inclusion Teacher.

Nower Hill High School is committed to supporting all students in their academic learning and social development. All applications for Nower Hill High School to become the named school for students with an EHCP are made through the SEND Department at the Local Authority maintaining the plan.
