Beyond the classroom, we have much to celebrate Our school production was a true highlight of the term, showcasing the creativity, confidence and teamwork of our students We are also incredibly proud of the many students who have taken part in competitions like the UKMT Challenge, the Watford Festival and Olympiads, as well as the continued success of our sports teams, who compete with great determination and spirit. Well done in particular to our girls' football team who are now Middlesex champions!
I was also pleased to once again host an afternoon tea with students from each Year group who have made significant improvements in their achievement points this term It was wonderful to hear about their successes and commitment to learning. We celebrated how they are acting as positive role models within our school community

The achievement points and behaviour points of every student contribute to the Overall Conduct competition, with the winning House engraved on the House Shield at the end of the year Gandhi have increased their lead at the top of the table, with Bannister slipping into last place!

Nower Hill School Council
The Nower Hill School Council have begun an exciting project to reimagine the Nower Hill house system. The original house system was introduced when the school opened in 1929, with four houses; Becket, Byron, Manor and Shaftesbury After falling away in the 1980s, it was relaunched in 2015 with new colours and names for houses.
With our new school vision and values agreed earlier this year, the School Council will lead a consultation with students on how we link these to our new house system and what other changes they’d like to make. We’re looking forward to hearing lots of great ideas for new house names, activities and displays across the school!

House Charity Week
9th - 13th March 2026
In March we held the first ever Nower Hill House Charity Week! Hundreds of students joined in the fun by taking part in a range of fundraising activities planned by our 6th Form and raised money for our fantastic House Charities Students took part in carnival games, guessed how many sweets were in the jar, bought fidget toys, flocked to 6th Form bake sales and purchased gifts from a Mothers’ Day pop-up shop!
On Thursday 12th March the whole school came together for House Colours Day, a non-uniform day with all proceeds going to our House Charities. Our 6th Form House Leaders were on the gates to hand out spot prizes to the students who best represented their House and to collect donations!
With donations and fundraising still ongoing, we’re delighted to have raised almost £2,500 already, with King and Nightingale so far leading the way with their fundraising efforts for the Malala Fund and Great Ormond Street Hospital!

Valentine’s Day Rose Sale
Our 6th Form Charity Committee, led by the fantastic Khushi and Riana (pictured), recently hosted a rose sale to celebrate Valentine’s Day and to raise money for the 6 House Charities.
The initiative went beyond the traditional, encouraging students to send roses as tokens of appreciation and friendship.
The committee organised the sale and distribution of the roses, along with heartfelt messages, to recipients across the school.
The sale was a resounding success, raising over £160 for our designated House Charities. Well done to Khushi, Riana and the whole 6th Form Charity Committee for a ‘blooming’ brilliant job in spreading kindness across the school.

A huge congratulations to our Year 10 Child Development and Hospitality and Catering students, who hosted a fantastic party for the children of our teachers. Students applied their catering and childcare skills to plan and deliver a wonderful event, with a wide range of activities, games and delicious food that included homemade Easter cakes. This was a great opportunity for students of these vocational subjects to get hands on experience and for the families of our staff to meet our students. Thank you to Ms Dey, Ms Wightman and Ms Davies for supporting our students.

Creative Futures Fair
Thursday 5th March 2026
Our 5th annual careers event was a great success, featuring 24 visiting Creatives from a wide range of industries. The diverse creative fields represented included Artists, Graphic Designers, Hair & Makeup Artists, Musicians, Interior Designers, Advertising & Marketing, TV Production, Architecture, Game Design, Media Production, Computer Animation, Fashion and Photographic Agencies.
This fantastic opportunity allowed students from Year 9 to Year 13 to speak directly with the professionals throughout the morning. They gained valuable insight into various industries and the career paths taken by the creatives since leaving school.
Significantly, most of the visiting creatives are ex-Nower Hill students or attended other Harrow schools

News from Year 8
Year 8 have celebrated a number of successes this half term, not least 6 of our girls who were part of the Nower Hill Girls’ Football Team that won the Under-13 Middlesex County Cup in February! It’s not all over, as the boys are also through to their final. Congratulations to all of our incredible athletes and the PE Department.
On the 17th and 18th March, 60 Year 8 students visited an escape room Whether they were saving the Mad Hatter in Wonderland or discovering gold and fleeing the Wild West, the students worked together to figure out the clues to escape. Well done to all those who participated and thank you to Miss Bailey and Mr Bremner for organising a stellar trip.

Year 8 Exam Week
UK Linguistics Olympiad Success
12 students from Years 8, 9 and 10 competed in this year's UK Linguistics Olympiad (UKLO) The UKLO is a nationally run competition in which students solve puzzles based around languages from all over the world
This year's paper required Nower Hill's top linguists to crack Romanian, Finnish, Niaja (a creole language spoken in Nigeria), Hangul (the Korean alphabet) Thaana (the official language of the Maldives) and Warembori (spoken in only three villages in New Guinea).
Using only a few snippets of each language, the students worked out the vocabulary and grammar of each one. They then used this knowledge to translate both out of and into the different languages, demonstrating excellent linguistic awareness As well as the amazing minds of these students, some credit must also be given to the wonderful teachers who have helped these students deepen their understanding of how language works
All 12 students performed exceptionally, but special mention must go to Rohan (8NN), Milaina (8NN), Kiyansh (8FH) and Idris (8NH), who achieved a bronze certificate for particularly high scores.

UCAS Discovery Exhibition 2026
On Tuesday 24th March, over 200 Year 12 students visited the UCAS Discovery London 2026 exhibition at the Excel in London. Students immersed themselves in speaking to universities, enquiring about course options and finding out about career pathways offered. They also had the chance to listen to live expert talks and get the latest advice from UCAS about university research, applications and degree apprenticeships
The visit was a key date in the 6th Form calendar for our Year 12 students and launched the start of their UCAS journey
UCAS Discovery London hosts over 100 universities, colleges, and apprenticeship employers face-to-face. The exhibition provides a valuable opportunity for all our Year 12 students to speak to universities and employers directly and discover a wealth of information and insight from the “in person” experience - all under one roof.

Nobel Prize Teacher Summit
In July last year I was lucky to have my application to participate in the 2026 Nobel Prize Teacher Summit accepted. This is an international event for teachers held by the Nobel Prize Museum in Stockholm, and the organisers describe the opportunities to learn from each other this way:
“Teaching is an academic profession with a high level of difficulty, both in terms of knowledge and methodology, as well as socially By organising interesting high-level seminars featuring Nobel Prize laureates and other outstanding speakers, we want to contribute to in-depth knowledge, inspiration and collegial dialogue. Our long-term ambition is to help increase the attractiveness of the teaching profession. Without excellent teachers – no new Nobel Prize laureates!”
The theme of this year’s summit was Health - a global concern. Towards the end of March, I travelled to Stockholm and joined over 300 teachers from around the world to be challenged, stimulated and educated
The Nobel Prize Team opened the summit reminding us about Alfred Nobel’s legacy and his quote: "It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge“
Nobel laureate Morten Meldal, who received his Nobel prize in 2022 for “Click Chemistry” started by emphasising that “Chemistry is Everything” Something that warmed my Chemistry teacher's heart! He was interviewed about how it felt to have his research recognised by the Nobel Assembly, his role as a teacher when working as a researcher and how his excitement about learning Chemistry was ignited by fireworks.
During a day packed with lectures, workshops, discussions and opportunities to make global connections, the theme kept returning to the important impact teachers have on our students and the future Even Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, DirectorGeneral of the World Health Organisation, had prerecorded a video with a greeting for the summit attendees. In a session about sustainability education, one comment particularly resonated with me. “If you are a teacher, the future is not something we wait for, it is something we cultivate.”
I have been able to bring the lessons that I learnt back to Nower Hill; cutting edge research on impacts of adolescent mental health, developments in sustainability education, ideas about whether AI will help to solve global health challenges and much more Most of all, I have come back to school with a reminder of how lucky I am to be part of such a wonderful and impactful profession

World Book Day 2026
On World Book Day, the Library staff ran a Murder Mystery event for students They had to work together in groups to solve clues to find the murderer, murder weapon and why the murder took place.

Media Studies Film Club
‘Wicked - For Good’ and ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ are just a two of the many films that our students have watched recently, when attending the Media Studies Film Club Our students have not only seen a variety of films of different genres, but have also reflected on what they have watched by either writing a review or creating a storyboard to illustrate what the film encompassed.
Furthermore, there have been not just one, but TWO competitions led by ‘Into Film’ who the Media Studies department have liaised with The first competition in celebration of the ‘Wicked - For Good’ film, encouraged students to create a travel poster promoting a place in the world of the movie for people to visit.
The second competition was in celebration of the film ‘Zootropolis 2’ Students had to create a job profile for an animal of their choice, which could work/live within the Zootropolis kingdom We had outstanding submissions from across KS4 and are keeping our fingers crossed that ‘Into Film’ select a winner from our school community!

GCSE Ancient History Debate
On Friday 13th March, we welcomed Dr Daniel Sutton from Cambridge University, who led a workshop with 27 of our Year 9, 10 and 11 Ancient History students focusing on the Greek historian Herodotus' debate on the benefits of different types of government
The students discussed the advantages and disadvantages of monarchy, oligarchy and democracy using Herodotus' account and evaluated the arguments made by the historical figures in the text. Afterwards, Dr Sutton was kind enough to field many questions about studying Classics or Ancient History at university, the increasing diversity of subject material studied, and about the value of studying Ancient History.

Year 13 Biology Olympiad
On Monday 19th January 2026, 16 outstanding Year 13 biologists competed in the British Biology Olympiad, competing against 18,800 students from 1132 schools. They were selected for their exceptional performance in Biology
The Olympiad is a highly demanding national competition designed to stretch the country’s top young biologists, developing higher-order thinking skills and inspiring further study in the subject.

National Careers Week Employer Talks
To celebrate National Careers Week at the beginning of March, the Careers department welcomed two employers into school to talk about their opportunities for school leavers. An Army engagement officer delivered a fascinating presentation to interested students and parents about the diverse range of Army apprenticeships and career opportunities
The Communications Director for Strabag gave an interesting talk on the UK engineering, and construction projects they are currently involved in and gave great advice to students on how to succeed at interviews We would like to thank both employers for inspiring our students

National Story Telling Week
Online Workshop with Jeffrey Boakye
As part of National Storytelling Week, some of our students took part in an online workshop led by Jeffrey Boakye on the 4th of February and Tuesday 10th of March. The sessions gave students the opportunity to explore creative writing through music and storytelling.
Guided by the Literacy Lead and Jeffrey Boakye, students experimented with writing their own lyrics, poems, or short pieces of text using a range of brainstorming activities. The workshop encouraged students to think about how rhythm, language, and personal expression can work together in powerful ways
Students responded very positively to the experience. One student from Year 8 said it was “a good opportunity to learn how to get started with writing poetry”, while another commented it was “interesting and entertaining” and helped them see how easy it can be to write a poem. A Year 9 student shared that it was “nice to think about my identity”, and another reflected that the workshop “taught me how to express myself and summarise my life into one poem”
As a result of the workshop, students produced a range of thoughtful and creative pieces. The following poem was selected as the winning entry, celebrating identity, ambition, and self-expression.

When I think of who I am, I see a Muslim - Somali girl - that’s me. I love my music; it never ends. My favourite artists are Dave and Tems.
I go to Nower Hill High School now, and I know what I want, and how. I want to be a doctor - that’s my dream. I’m very for that as it seems.

On Tuesday 3rd March, we held our FLACS Languages Quiz, bringing together students from all year groups for a lunchtime of fun and friendly competition. The quiz included a range of questions on topics such as general knowledge, linguistics and cultures from around the world
Students also enjoyed food prepared by our Spanish and French language assistants, including flan français and croissants, which helped create a great atmosphere during the event. It was fantastic to see a good number of students attend from across the school, and everyone had a lovely time.
A massive thank you to everyone who supported the quiz in any way, and particularly to Mr Hitchcock for writing the quiz and hosting the event.

The Watford Drama Festival
Our students recently took part in the Watford Drama Festival, delivering some outstanding devised pieces that showcased both creativity and powerful storytelling Our Year 13 students presented the monologues they will be performing for their Component 2 examinations One group from KS3 Drama Club won first place with their moving performance exploring the theme of bullying. Their thoughtful interpretation, strong character work, and emotional depth made a lasting impact on both the audience and judges. Another group also achieved great success, placing third with a clever and dynamic piece focused on procrastination.

Singing & Stagecraft Workshop
On Monday 9th March, we were fortunate enough to welcome back the Mozartists to host a singing and stagecraft workshop with Year 7 and 8 students This 2 hour workshop was run by a professional opera singer and pianist. Students had the opportunity to develop their musical awareness and dramatic story-telling skills and ask questions about the artists’ career paths. The workshop also included a short performance and an informal conversation with the artists. Well done to everyone who took part.
Our recent school production of Matilda Jr. was a fantastic success and a true celebration of talent, creativity, and teamwork. From the very first scene, the cast captivated the audience with their energy and confidence. The singing, acting, and choreography were all of an exceptionally high standard, reflecting the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.
Behind the scenes, the crew also did an outstanding job with costumes, props, and staging, helping to create a vibrant and engaging show Well done to all the students and staff who made this production so memorable!

U13 Girls’ football team crowned Middlesex County Cup champions
Our U13 Girls’ Football Team has made school history by reaching the Middlesex County Final on Thursday 26th February against Queensmead School - an incredible achievement.
The final was packed with action and goals, with both teams battling hard from start to finish In an outstanding performance, our captain Savannah led the team brilliantly, scoring all seven goals and earning herself Player of the Match, awarded by the referee.
One of the most dramatic moments came in the final minute when Queensmead were awarded a penalty that could have levelled the game at 6–6. However, goalkeeper Jasmin stepped up under immense pressure and made a great save to keep the team ahead Moments later, the team pushed forward and secured victory with a seventh goal, sealing an incredible 7–5 win
Winning the Middlesex County Cup Final is a huge accomplishment, and everyone involved should be extremely proud. Congratulations to the U13 girlsMiddlesex County Champions!

Year 9 Boys’ Football
On Monday 9th March, the Year 9 football team continued their season with an away quarter-final tie against Park High School Despite difficult pitch conditions, the boys got off to a strong start and managed to score early on in the first half
The Park High team tried to battle and get themselves back into the game but Nower Hill defended well, and managed to show their quality in front of goal, going into half time 3-0 up.
The team continued to fight in the second half, and were able to score a further two goals against a resilient Park side
The boys went on to win the game 5-0, with Nower Hill goalkeeper Kieano only having to make 1 save all game The Year 9 team were the third team to make it to the semi-finals this season, joining the Year 8s and Year 10s.
The Year 11s would then follow suit later that week. Nower Hill will now enjoy a triple header against Pinner, with the Year 9, 10 and 11 teams all being drawn against the local rivals.

Well done to our U14 badminton team who recently competed in the Harrow Borough Plate finals in both singles and doubles. They competed against students from Whitmore High and Salvatorian College, and came home Plate final winners! Well done to Reyansh, Heerv, Ayyub, and Dhyan
Congratulations to our Year 7 badminton team who won the Harrow Borough Finals on Tuesday 24th March Nower Hill put on a confident performance to finish second in the group stages, qualifying for the semi-finals, in which they beat Avanti to earn a place in the final. There was all to play for in the final against John Lyon School as we narrowly lost 3-2 to them in our first game against them. Nower Hill then stepped up their performance for the final and were crowned Harrow Borough champions! Well done to Ayyub, Dhyan, Jeeva and Isaac.

Year 10 Boys’ Football
The Year 10 football team played their semi-final of the Harrow League on Monday 23rd April against local rivals Pinner High.
Having progressed to the semi-final last year, they were keen to go one step further and make it to the final this year. The game started off equally, but as the half went on, Nower Hill went on to dominate the game. Late on in the half, Rushil won the team a penalty after a great run in behind Pinner High’s defence Taelen, who had already scored multiple penalties this season, calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net, and sent Nower Hill into half time 1-0 up
In the second half, as the boys conceded a corner after failing to deal with a long ball from Pinner High, who went on to score. Following this, Pinner had gained some confidence, coming back into the game and putting pressure on Nower Hill. Despite this, the boys rallied and were able to regain control of the game, coming close to scoring a number of times. Late on in the game, the score was still tied, until a fantastic solo run from Leo which put Nower Hill into the lead with just minutes to go Into extra time, Pinner managed to score a last minute equalizer
Determined not to be beaten, the boys went into a penalty shootout full of belief that they could progress. Taelan stepped up first, and managed to score his second penalty of the game. Nower Hill also had penalties scored by Kaito, Rushil and Asahz, before Leo stepped up to take the deciding penalty. Leo scored the deciding penalty, securing Nower Hill's deserved place in this year's final, which will take place after half term.
