We love blogs. We follow them to get ideas, tips and of course inspiration.

We love that we can access them anytime from anywhere. We love seeing fellow creators flaunt their artistry and skill. We love celebrating successes and learning from others’ better-luck-next-time attempts.

But as professional decorators much of what we drool over in cakethemed blogs just doesn’t fly in a professional bakery environment.

Many of these awesome creations don’t factor in important stuff that, as professionals, we can’t ignore: issues like food safety, productivity and even mess-free transporting.

So, we had an idea. We’re turning our quarterly Inspirations publication into a full-time, always-on blog.

That way we can give professional decorators inspiring ideas that are feasible in a commercial bakery.

We’ll serve up fresh cake designs and time-saving tips for bakery pros to access whenever they need them, from any device. We’ll feature trends without lag time, offer searchable archives and host a platform where decorators from around the country can share their creations and wisdom through guest spotlights. It will be a blog by professional decorators for professional decorators.

Guess what?

It’s happening. That’s right, we’re taking everything you love about Inspirations and making it more timely and relevant than ever before with our new Inspirations blog. We’re really excited to make the leap, and we look forward to having you join the party. The fun starts now, so this is our last printed issue of Inspirations.

I caught the cake decorating bug early by helping my Mom. She wasn’t great at making roses – even Dad’s were better – so I kept practicing until I was the best rose maker in the family. Soon I started creating cakes for friends and family, and eventually worked as a Bakery Team Lead and cake decorator at SuperTarget.

Now I work at DecoPac as a cake decorator and designer supervisor, managing a team of cake decorators, designing cakes, and sharing tips in tutorial videos. I’m completely self-taught, and enjoy learning from other cake decorators.

I started decorating cakes with my Grandma (Baba) when I was six years old. It was a fun hobby we enjoyed together. As I got older, I dreamt of going to art school or becoming the next Alicia Keys, but when I was sixteen my Grandma passed away. So when Le Cordon Bleu came into my home ec class, I thought, “That’s it. I can still be an artist, and have Baba with me the whole time.” That’s why I love being a cake designer and decorator at DecoPac—I get to create amazing, edible art with my Grandma smiling over my shoulder.

Designing birthday cakes is super fun for me because birthdays are a huge deal in my world. In fact, my boyfriend and I don’t celebrate any other holidays. I’ve been decorating cakes for as long as I can remember. First with my Mom, who was big into cutting sheet cakes into cool shapes and characters, and then in the pastry program at culinary school. I always wanted to work with food and make a living doing art, and that’s exactly what I get to do every day as a cake designer and decorator at DecoPac. Angie Deroy
