My work pursues abstract expression through the assemblage of paper and thread -- pulling shapes and colors from my own photography, and using them in a similar way to paint. Multiple pieces are layered and sewn together in a quilt-like manner, building a foundation of color. Springing from sensory experience or visual observation, I intuitively draw on the surface with thread, responding to the energy of the piece at hand, while being mindful of my connection to the original source. Each finished composition makes a transformation from the recognizable, to a study of form, color and surface.
This portfolio serves as a sampling of past artworks -- selected from pieces that were important in my art-making process. Some have found new homes, some remain in my personal collection.
