Meet Mera Though full-time employment for women in Morocco is rare, artisan Mera, nine-months pregnant with her newest addition, is able to support herself and all her children. Mera works for the Beldine artisan community just outside Marrakech where CBA pays fair trade wages for the products she produces.

Morocco The bold and beautiful new additions to our collection from Morocco were inspired by textiles hand-painted in the ancient Zouaq tradition. Original to Morocco and found painted on ceilings, doors, furniture, and decor throughout the country, Zouaq centers on repeating geometric patterns all designed from memory. CBA’s Moroccan interlayers are curated from the Beldine artisan center for women in Tamesloht, founded by Humanitarian Dorine Karima Eijkman in 2000. 4 |

Pakistan Artisans in Pakistan meticulously hand stitch intricate and detailed embroidery in the Zari tradition for our newest interlayer in this collection, Noor. Zari originated in ancient Persia, where artisans first began weaving thin threads of gold and silver onto fine silks. The Urdu word “noor� means radiance, embodied through the tiny gold strands and repeating florals stitched throughout.
