Wha t’s on

what’s on

There’s no sitting back in retirement for these three budding artists. Gilta Ricotta, Penny Ross and Rick Hannon are so passionate about their hobby, they’ve decided to present their own art exhibition.

Penny, an interior decorator, Gilta, from the Peninsula and Rick, a retired principal have been attending Art Classes Central Coast mentored by professional artist Kadira Jennings. After participating in two art-school exhibitions, the three emerging artists decided they could go it alone and conduct their own exhibition so along came the idea of The Power of 3: exploring diversity in portraiture where each of the artists will demonstrate their own individual spirit and style.

After doing the tree change from Sydney’s Northern Beaches to Saratoga two years ago, Penny and her husband love the tranquility and beauty of the Central Coast and have not looked back. Moving to the Coast has allowed her spend more time on her creative pursuits, particularly her painting.

Gill reflects on her life and art and says it’s been full of twists and turns. Necessity saw her become a jack-of-all-trades yet deep down she knew there was something in her creative self she was destined to discover. Then a few years ago she made a commitment to pursue her art and the rest is history.

Rick worked in Central Coast schools for over thirty years, sixteen of them as principal. His retirement enabled him to do all those things he wished to do but was unable. Along with surfing, playing in a rock band and travelling, Rick began to create artworks.

Gill, Penny and Rick feel very privileged to be able to combine their talents to demonstrate the diversity in their artistic techniques and artworks. Each of them explored the art world in their younger lives but it is now that they’ve reached the ‘mature’ years, all their life experiences have culminated into what should be a wonderful, inspiring portrait exhibition. The Power of 3 exhibition will be held at Gosford Regional Community Gallery from Friday May 3 to Sunday May 5 with an official opening on Saturday May 4 at 2pm

Call for Help What a traumatic time the world has been through with all the natural disasters that have occurred. People rally to help those in need, which is very much appreciated by those who lose so much. In the second week of the 2019 Wrap with Love Inc year, 3,000 Wraps were collected by World Vision for their first distribution delivery. There are many volunteers working through knitting groups, villages, Church and Service organisations as well as individuals, who knit or crochet squares to be sewn into Wraps.

It is time to encourage more volunteers to support this great organisation, as the need is always there. Homelessness, Domestic Violence, Health and Family Breakdowns have no boundaries. Winter will be upon us soon, which again will add to the family burden. Squares are made 25cm x 25cm, crochet or knit in Garter stitch, 8 ply basic yarn. No fancy bobbles/chenille/feathers. 28 squares make a wrap. Sewn 4 squares across, 7 squares down. Squares can be delivered to Gosford Uniting Church, Toukley Library, Bateau Bay Library, Lake Haven Library,Tuggerah Library, Erina Library and Umina Library.
