Meet the Keynote Speakers

Dr. Michael Fehlings is the Medical Director of the Krembil Neuroscience Center and heads the Spinal Program at the Toronto Western Hospital. Dr. Fehlings is a Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Toronto, holds the Halbert Chair in Neural Repair and Regeneration, a Scientist at the McEwen Centre for Regenerative Medicine, and a McLaughlin Scholar in Molecular Medicine. Dr. Fehlings combines an active clinical practice in complex spinal surgery with leading a multidisciplinary team of researchers that examine the application of stem cells, nano-technology and tissue engineering for spinal cord repair and regeneration.

Dr. Yigal Shoshan is a neurosurgeon and Head of Neurosurgery at Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem, Israel. His areas of interest include genetics of brain tumors, patho-physiology of head injuries, and intra-operational navigation. He is consistently bringing new techniques and procedures to Hadassah Medical Center. Dr. Shoshan joined a team of doctors to employ the first deep brain stimulation treatments in Israel and testing new brain pacemakers to read real-time brain activity.

Dr. Kate Drummond is a neurosurgeon at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Associate Professor at The University of Melbourne and a Deputy Director of the Melbourne Brain Centre-Royal Melbourne Hospital. She is also Director of the Neuro-Oncology Tumor Stream at the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre. She has led the multidisciplinary brain tumor service with colleague, Professor Mark Rosenthal. She is involved with a number of community groups advocating for patients with brain tumors and their families.
